MJF and Cody
I've talked about it before and most of you called me crazy but it'd be way better if Cody ends up turning on MJF. They've teased a MJF attack on Cody a couple of times but I'm happy they haven't pulled the trigger on it.
I look at it like neither really has to turn and Cody eventually getting sick of MJF to the point he goes off on him but now I'm really thinking they could go with a Cody turn if he loses to Jericho. MJF is easily the best heel in the game but if you flip it to where he actually is the face it'll challenge him. I'm not against it and they could go any way they choose but it could get interesting. |

it's not a bad idea actually. I mean I don't know if it's the right call -- but I don't mind the whole twist/subverted expectations thing.
And IMO it's less like a hacky pro-wrestling swerve and more of a genuine twist just due to the way they're telling the story. |

I think they need to do a better job of the current MJF/Cody thing before anything else.... I know people here are all "this is amazing and so good", but to me it still seems weird and maybe dumb......
I think they just need to do a better job on TV of building their relationship. Sounds to me like to actually appreciate the angle/relationship you need to actually be paying attention online and follow their social media and stuff..... and I can't be bothered to do that...... so they really need to explain the dynamic and relationship on TV sooner rather than later...... |

Kinda agree a bit with Lock Jaw in that having never seen anything except the two tv shows and a pay per view, I’ve not really got any background story of Cody and MJF. So it’s as if you have to watch their online shows to get their storylines.
Having said that, it seems to be a better story than loads of other wrestling (I.e it is an actual story) Also what’s great about it is that the commentary and Cody etc are acknowledging that he might turn on him and is a bit of a bastard. Much better than playing dumb to everything that happens on tv just because it doesn’t happen right in front of a persons eyes, as if none of the wrestlers could go back and see the heelish acts from the previous week |

Having Cody turn on HIM is a horrible idea. It’s a great twist in that no one would ever see it coming but it would suck long-term which is much more important. |

Seems to me like it might happen sooner rather than later. From this weeks ep, the faces outnumbered the heel stable 7-5, so it’s kinda make sense for him to turn to even the odds

Heel MJF is an amazing thing that most of the audience hasn’t been exposed to yet. If they wanna keep him as a heel while carrying on this story where he’s close to Cody, fine. If they wanna have him turn on Cody eventually, fine. Cody turning on HIM and making him a sympathetic babyface is the LAST thing they should do with it though.

Or might turn to give the heels a win in some sort of 5v5

If you wanna go “unexpected” with it, have MJF build up a rivalry with a top face and then have Cody turn heel to back him. MJF gets to be a heel and looks even more dangerous having brainwashed the head of the company. Meanwhile, Cody gets to work as a heel which he’s actually much better at. Works out for everyone,

Only way Cody turning on MJF could work out well is if Cody had some gold and gradually became more delusional and paranoid as champ over time. He starts viewing everything MJF does as having an ulterior motive that doesn't exist while you slowly mix in MJF having genuine concerns for Cody's well-being to setup the double turn.
Then again a face MJF means he no longer would sell his scarf merch that contain a hilarious insult to those who buy them. |

In fact, I'm more surprised - well, surprised is the wrong word. And disappointed would be as well. Let's just say I thought the whole first stable of AEW was going to go in a more them direction after that "people in my circle" interview with JR. And as I've stated elsewhere, I hope they *never* turn him against Cody and subvert that in perpetuity much like I wished WWE would have kept Miz/Maryse's on-air self-centered antagonism where they're both "too good" for the other. |
