I'll be pretty happy with whatever team makes it from the AL. Angels, O's, A's, Royals, Mariners, etc. all in contention and none have been to the World Series in a long time (or at all in Seattle's case). The Tigers are the only AL team in contention that's been there recently, and I wouldn't mind that as I genuinely would like to see Detroit win something plus that rotation would be hella fun to watch in the playoffs.
The NL will probably just end up being the Cardinals or Giants again. |

Actually thinking about it, the Pirates are the only team in the NL I'd REALLY love to see make it, but it won't be easy. I hate the Nationals and the Giants/Cardinals have been there so many times recently it'd feel a bit meh. I guess the Dodgers would be ok simply because Kershaw in the World Series would be fantastic.

Every AL East team that's won the Division by 13+ games has advanced to the World Series.

Angels beat the Mariners and then later on the Rangers stun the A's in the 9th, which clinches the West for the Angels.
What a second half collapse by the A's. Really sucks, it's a likable bunch. At least if they get in the Wild Card they have a great group of starters to choose from for the one-game playoff. |

I'm calling Detroit/Seattle in the WC game cause Detroit looks awful too. Oakland doesn't deserve to be in it the way they've been playing. how do you give up 6 runs in the top of the 9th off your closer to Texas? The shots of their dugout looked like someone had killed their dog.

I wonder if Girardi has any regrets about not moving Jeter down in the order in like May/June. Was such an obviously smart baseball decision but it seemed that the powers that be demanded Jeter continue to hit near the top during his retirement tour.
Brutal season for him. Wouldn't be surprised if he finds a way to have a good final homestand in the Bronx at least. |

here's to hoping the O's can hold him to 0-12 next week instead of the 0-11 with a walk like they did last weekend

A's hitting declined badly with the loss of Cespedes while the Tigers hit a really bad slump and for a while lead to them handing the division away to KC. |

For those who frequent minor league baseball games, a bunch of teams changed affiliations today.
For almost 20 years, Minnesota sent their Double-A talent to New Britain here in Connecticut. Today they pulled out. The Rockies are now affiliated. Which feels a bit weird. But it'll take some getting used to. |

The Mets swept the Braves in Atlanta for the first time since 2007, ending the Braves' Wild Card hopes. Less than 24 hours later, the Braves fired GM Frank Wren.

Mets exercise their option on GM Sandy Alderson and are working on an extension. They're also gonna keep manager Terry Collins around.
We go live to Vito Cruz for his thoughts. |

What the hell did Frank Wren do to lose his job in Atlanta? Caught me off guard.
Another opening Eppler might called in for an interview for. |

I'm guessing Wren had to fall on his sword for the BJ Upton and Dan Uggla signings. Just huge albatrosses. He should be commended for locking up much of their young core for relatively cheap, though.
Fredi Gonzalez should have been the one to go I think. He seems like an idiot. |

The hitting is still worrying because Sandy has zero money to spend this offseason. Wright and Granderson will take up 40% of next year's payroll, so they both need to bounce back in a big way. Murph was great this year but with only one year of team control left it wouldn't surprise me if he got dealt (possibly combined with a pitcher) in exchange for a left fielder. Collins...mehhhhhhhhhhh. The team seems to like him and play hard for him but he tends to have a hard-on for veteran players especially early in the year. Plus he's 65, tough to picture him leading the Mets into the next decade or anything. I'd love Wally Backman but it's clear the Mets will never hire him as a big league manager. |

Seattle is one loss/Oakland win to being done too. Indians are out with one Oakland win or a loss of their own. Looks like it's Kansas City and Oakland as the Play-in Game. |

The Giants are a win or a Brewers loss away from clinching a spot too, so all 10 playoff teams can be decided by the end of tomorrow. Still a busy weekend though as teams continue playing to determine division champs and seeding.

A Mets beat reporter tweeted that the Mets were on the verge of becoming the first NL team in 15 years to go an entire season without balking.
Literally 2 minutes later, the Mets had their first balk of the season. |
