Post Wrestling's John Pollock alluded to the concept of the new championship.

SPOILER: show
Possibly a 24/7 themed title.

Only upside to him winning the MitB case is less cash-in teases since he rarely shows up to RAW to begin with.

Assuming the stuff about Ali is true, they could have used that victory to begin building him up as their next potential big star or at least pick Ricochet since Vince needing a star to build up quickly was the main reason for his callup.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not defending WWE’s decisions leading up to this moment or the decisions to come. I’m just saying that the failure to build stars was done before last night and last night was not going to suddenly fix the problem OR overcome their shitty long-term booking in the future.

Given those facts, putting the lame gimmick on a guy who matters was the right move. Especially if the options were building a story for Brock fucking Lesnar or using the case to try to build Ali as a major star. Lol

I quite like the idea that the spectre of a Brock cash-in will play in the background and that he could show up at any time to cash in, but I have to put faith in WWE being able to book that.

I was expecting them to do a Bailey turn with her looking like she was cashing in on Charlotte only to roll her out and Becky in to take the Raw belt.

Seth v Brock is made for Saudi, no briefcase needed. Seth wins with an inside cradle or some time of flash pin. Brock destroys him post match, cashes in, wins, and we get the same "he's a shit champ" storyline going into Mania next yr.

The most insulting thing is someone walking in and winning a match in that fashion. The MITB gimmick probably should have kayfabe been rectified after Edge used the initial loophole. The gimmick is a bit shitty.

Yeah. The concept could work. RVD cashed in "honorably" the second year by announcing his cash-in in advance, albeit it forcing Cena to wrestle in front of a hostile ECW crowd. The wrestler can pick an advantageous spot without it being overly cheap.

As it is now, everyone expects the easy cash-in and the only other two people to give advance notice of their cash-ins (Cena and Braun) both failed to win the belt, which does nothing but make them look like big stupid heads.

The problem lies in the fact that they would give the briefcase to an established star who should not need a sneak attack to challenge for a championship

When you make it for a midcard guy or upper mid card guy who you want to elevate to the next level, then the briefcase makes perfect sense. It allows them to make that leap without damaging the credibility of the champion who loses the belt to them.

Who has actually got something out of the concept? And who got something out of it that couldn't have been achieved with a better push? Edge, CM Punk, Daniel Bryan and Seth Rollins might be the only guys that have ended up in better places after having won the briefcase, and I don't think any of their later successes, outside of maybe Edge, has been because of the briefcase. Punk really got there because of his 2011 promo, Bryan the fans seeing him screwed out of the secondary title and Rollins has kind of default ended up in his position because he's consistent.

A credible champion should not need to sneak attack and win the belt. Damaging the credibility of the champion should not be a factor when you are pushing someone legitimately into place. If you're concerned with damaging the reputation of Wrestler A by putting Wrestler B over, then maybe you shouldn't put Wrestler B over?

If Drew McIntyre had won the briefcase, then on some random Raw he, Bobby Lashley and Baron Corbin beat up Rollins with some steel steps, like they do everyone, and then McIntyre technically wins the Universal Title...does anyone care? He's still Drew McIntyre. He's still the exact same guy without any changes to his perception except now he is technically the guy who holds the belt. What does that mean?

It would have more impact if McIntyre just destroyed Seth Rollins in a singles match for the belt. Or if they did the exact same thing as a MITB scenario, except Vince McMahon sanctions the match because Drew is once again his golden boy. I mean, it would be horrible, but it would be the same as a shock cash-in except there's a storyline reason that it is happening personally to Drew Mac. Everyone has been trying to inherit Edge's gimmick instead of finding their own.
