I have Joe by a point, would have been 2 rounds if not for the knockdown.
BHop got tired and was woeful in the last half, and that low blow was rediculous. Here comes the verdict... |

You serious? I had Calzaghe by at least 5 rounds. Hopkins got a 10-8 in the first and won a round late (maybe the one where he faked the ball shot) but aside from that, I can't think what he did to win anything. Fought like a pussy, never came forward, looked for every cheap shot and dirty trick in the book. The man is a cunt. His interview afterwards was a fucking embarrassment. Face the facts pal - it's white boy day and you got schooled by one.

By the way, the Welsh national anthem is the best ever. Never fails to give me goosebumps and I'm not even Welsh.

He is deluded. How can he consider the last 7 rounds, where he basically popped inside and hit a weak flurry, then clinched, taking Joe to school? When did he make Joe look amatuerish? When he took 4 minutes to recover from a not so low blow, or when he was getting smashed with hard lefts for the last 4 rounds when Joe stepped it up?
Fucking prick. Whats wrong with good grace? If he really wanted to win, he should have punched him instead of squeezing him. :foc: |

I was scoring a bit harshly on Joe, to assure myself he had it. Also leaning towards the corrupt scoring boxing judges can be guilty of.
Rob Harvey, comes in after the decision and has the same scoring as the judges. |

Kevin Iole at Yahoo had Hopkins by one round. Further proving he is a fucking idiot. And in the breakdown, he said Hopkins had a better chin since he has never been stopped? Erm... Calzaghe ain't never lost!

The way Hopkins fought was disgraceful and waste of a lot of people's pay per view money.
I had Calzaghe by 3 but it could've been more. John Rawling kept swaying me (by the way why wasn't Steve Bunce in Vegas?). It wasn't a pretty fight, Hopkins was never going to come forward and let the thing open up. Had my heart in my throat for a while though after the first round knockdown. I don't know if I want to see Calzaghe/Jones, I think there are other contenders Calzaghe should face first but I have a feeling he could be facing Hopkins again in September if Bernard continues this talk. |

Nah I probably had it more than 5 to be honest. I txted my brother by about the 7th and thought Calzaghe was pissing it then. Had to have won by at least 5. Probably 6 or 7 really. If there wasn't a 10-8 to Hopkins early, I wouldn't have thought it was anything resembling close.

I don't wanna see Hopkins fight ever again. I'm surprised I even stayed awake for one of his fights to be honest. Roy Jones Jnr can stay in the States. It's years too late to want the fight now. Where was he 5 years ago? Pavlik would get killed too. Better off thinking about Antonio Tarver if it's any Yank. |

He sounds like a man who has done his climbing, and is now going to take marquee fights with guys he will probably beat to protect his record.
Hopkins it is then I fancy him against Jones, mind. |

Wales Grand Slam, Cardiff FA Cup final, Swansea City League 1 Champions, and now Joe conquering Vegas. Great year for Welsh sport! |

Odd sort of victory really. Weird to think this was supposed to be his career defining fight. But fuck it, he did it! Now everybody will know the name.

Funny how throughout the match, the commentators seemed to have Hopkins down as the probable winner on points. Everybody in my house begrudgingly accepted the best Joe could hope for was a draw as it was such a close contest. One of the judges had the bout as Hopkins' and the other only just to Joe, yet somehow the final judge solidly declared Joe the winner.
I'm happy for the result, he earned it and all, but I can see it being heavily disputed. |

I don't see how anybody can watch that fight and say Calzaghe didn't dominate the last 7 rounds.
As soon as people (including you and Rawling etc.) saw the knockdown they immediately assumed Calzaghe was on the backfoot. But as soon as he got into he dominated the last few rounds. It says a lot that the most experienced judge got it 116-111 and wasn't swayed by anything else. Calzaghe threw an incredible amount of punches in that fight (more than anyone has ever thrown against Hopkins), refused to fight Hopkins fight for the main part and deserved a hard fought victory. Although hard fought should not be confused with close. It was tight fight and Hopkins was being so defensive, lots of holds, that's what it made it so hard to judge. But if you watched it back now you would be very surprised and how you judged it. |

Ah yes but 1. Setanta is free with certain Virgin Media packages and 2. I would definately rather pay and see it as it happens instead of having to wake up at 12pm on a Sunday and watch it then. Over a week later.

The fact that it was a split decision shows it was closer than 116-111, which is too steep imo, Calzaghe only just won it because of the knockdown. ALthough having said that the champion is generally always gonna be given a little bit of favour on the cards, if it had been a vacant belt it mighta gone the other way.
