Yeah, but it happened. That’s all you need to make guys like The Elite and their ilk jealous. The critical reviews. Young talent looking up to Punk’s work and there actually being an answer for “How do I improve?” whereas The Elite have always been “Do whatever you feel.”

We also don’t have the data on how much of Punk’s numbers — on Collision or otherwise — are the same viewers versus unique viewers. I only bring that up because Saturday night is such a horrendous night for television and I’m willing to bet Punk has more casual appeal as a wrestler than any of The Elite do.

You have Punk doing the Zaslav flex. Even Meltzer’s camp takes a “Punk might be good for business, BUT…” stance. There are almost certainly dimensions to Punk’s appeal that aren’t reflected in Dave Meltzer’s reporting, and that would be enough to make guys who want the narrative to be “500k on Wednesday is a good number” tense.
