Punk in TNA would be a waste, even if he were allowed to have complete control, it would all be for not. Not enough people would care to watch long enough for whatever it is he's allowed to do to make a difference. TNA has proven time and again regardless of the star power you bring in, nobody is going to stay and watch if the product itself is not compelling enough.
If Angle couldn't turn them around, Punk won't either. |

Kurt Angle didn't have complete creative control and his initial feud with Joe was a disappointment. They made numerous bad decisions during that early period so any Angle fans who followed him didn't stay long.
CM Punk surpassed Kurt Angle in popularity. And again, I don't think the size of the audience would matter that much to Punk if he really just wants to fully express himself. You're assuming he would go to TNA to make them competitive with the WWE. That simply isn't going to happen. What could happen is that Punk goes to TNA and just has tremendous matches, promos and feuds with people allowed to let it all hang out. |

It shows that you haven't watched TNA in a while. Things have moved on a lot since those days. If Punk goes to TNA I will film myself doing something ridiculous. It is the only worse situation he could go into.

That's true, I guess. Didn't look at it from that standpoint. From TNA's standpoint, though, considering the money they've already poured into bringing name value with little to no difference, they shouldn't over pay for Punk. If he's going to come in, pay him with creative control over his character.
That said, pretty sure it was mentioned very early in the thread or somewhere on the board Punk was considering a part time role as he got older. If that's the case, and he essentially gets to pick who he faces, I can see him coming back. TNA would be appealing for a little while, but if his goal is to ultimately main event Mania, and we know how forgiving Vince can be, then I think he eventually comes back at some point as a special attraction some time later on in the year. |

That's the point though.
If it's true that CM Punk just got really tired with the WWE because of the direction they were taking his character and is willing to miss big paydays in Elimination Chamber and Wrestlemania, Then money and over-all quality of the product is less important to him than control over his character. Also, if some of his critics are correct that he's just an attention whore, well then you know what would put him in the spotlight? Going to TNA. Again, I don't know what is really going on, but based on things he's said and done in the past, the lure of complete control over his character direction might be very attractive. Not just that though, he's got a lot of people he likes personally in TNA. I fully accept that TNA is complete shit right now for the purpose of this purely hypothetical scenario too. Don't you see the opportunity in taking over a shit product that is desperate enough to give you everything you could ever want or need in terms of artistic freedom? Obviously there's a limit, I doubt we'd see Punk going back to the yards and trampolines or producing stuff on public access. TNA has just enough budget and production value in general that if CM Punk just wanted to come in and put a few of his ideas onto paper he could do it. Is it likely? If Punk's done with the WWE, it's at least more likely than him going to ROH or Japan. |

Hogan became hot again with the NWO, but he still screwed over a lot of guys when he got to WCW and then acted like a jerk when he finally got back to the WWF. I just want to clarify the timeline a bit, because there is just no denying that Hogan is a Legend and his career in the 80s was pretty much unrivaled even by Flair and Dusty. |

Hogan's 4 year run I think also had a mix in it of old school promoting where guys held titles for longer times because they never really had to defend them. In an era where you have a PPV every 12 months you really have to have a guy who is over, sells merch and can put on great matches to hold a title for a year.
The only person I can say Hogan may have held down in his WWF run was maybe mr perfect? not sure, rumor was Hogan nixed him getting the belt cause he was too small but I'm not sure how well it would have gone with curt as champ in WCW that motherfucker buried anyone and everyone. |

How many people did Austin act funny about? Aside from the Lesnar thing, I mean. He didn't want to lose to Triple H, and then at the same time he was shitting on Jarrett.

I am kind of okay with Austin refusing to job to Michael Cole. Other than that, I dunno. He put Rock over, Mankind over and Undertaker over when he was hot. I remember people bitching about Austin going over Rock at all the Mania's except their last one together.

he put HHH over pretty good at no way out. Jarrett I definetly remember and right or wrong from a business standpoint, as a fan I didn't buy Jarrett as a mid carder let alone anywhere near a main event

Love a stable having all the titles. During the early days of this Authority angle, I was praying for a more "formal" stable type thing, if only to get a shot like that with Orton and The Shield all holding up their titles.
