Rate the Game: Week 53
Another week down and we're back with the greatest list of games in any publication, print or digital...you know, if you don't count all the other ones that are out there. Anyways, last week we tackled Samus and all of her original game's glory but where does her first entry fall on our awesome list of awesome? Let's calculate the average. Yes, I did factor in Seph's error from last week so we should be good. Leaderboard, show us what you got!
Damn, Samus does it again by creating yet ANOTHER four-way tie, this time for the number 41 spot alongside Time Crisis, Tekken, and Earthworm Jim with a solid middle of the road rating of 3.0! Samus is into the kink apparently. Well, let's move on seeing as this is a new week. Let's go to the bowl and procure from it this week's title, shall we? There it is right in your face. It's the first entry in the Arkham series, Batman: Arkham Asylum! The Dark Knight's track record with video games has been very hit or miss but how did this one fare in your eyes? Was it worthy of the Caped Crusader or did it stumble like Joel Schumacher? Let's hear what you have to say and rate in good health! Until next week! No matter what may happen to me, just remember Lzzy Hale gave me the bedroom eyes... ...again. |

It got the ball rolling on Rocksteady's fantastic trilogy. Even better that it was The Animated Series all over again with Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy coming in to do their respective voices.
Solid 4 from me. |

Easy 4 for me. The start of probably what I consider to be the best licensed franchise (Spiderman is also up there). While Asylum isn't the best game in the series, it's still great and got that ball rolling. The villains are all handled exceptionally well imo and I love all the little one off side stories and cameos of lesser known villains and characters (here's looking at you Calendar Man). I can't even describe how sad I was when they quit making these like 8 years ago or whenever it was. If Arkham City comes up you can go ahead and put me down for a 5 on that one.

I voted 3, because I bought it and haven't played it longer than 30 minutes because I got bored. Not big enough of a Batman fan I guess, but it does look like a good game.

This gives me an idea, there should be a hero called "Bait-Man" who jerks off to scare criminals away. Sort of like a good guy sex offender. His backstory can be that he was arrested for exposing himself in public, but cleaned up and became a hero who exposes himself to bad guys to scare them away.
Damsel in distress : HELP! I am being assaulted by a creep. Baitman : *loading PornHub on his tablet* Hey villain, you wanna see a show? *opens his large coat* Villain : GROSS! I just lost my boner. *runs away* *Damsel in distress : runs away" Baitman : Damn it! Not again. |

Voted 3 but would be a lot closer to 3.5 for my real score.
Its the only comic books super hero game I've played from the Xbox 360/PS3/Wii gen that I can remember and while I had a fun time overall, the combat and gameplay did feel a bit too repetitive at times. |

I went the full monty here. It looks great and there are some neat designs for the characters, Scarecrow in particular. The asylum makes for an unsettling environment. The story might not be all that compelling but the main strength is that I felt like I was actually controlling Batman, not a generic collection of polygons with Batman's skin. I got to do things that Batman would do and I never got confused with the controls. Toss in some solid voice work that calls back to the animated series and it was a fun experience. I should probably get around to finishing Arkham City one of these days.
