Missed MLB Tonight so much this offseason. Hilarious hearing Harold Reynolds and Billy Ripken be completely incredulous at teams batting their best hitters 2nd while Greg Amsinger has to spell out the concept for them.

Can you either sum up the argument to do that or link an article that explains, please?
If anyone has problems with Reynolds and Ripken, just be glad Joe Morgan isn't on the air anymore. |

The "old school mentality" is that you bat your best hitter 3rd no matter what with the theory that the #1 and #2 hitters stand the best chance of being on base ahead of him to drive in runs.
In reality though, quite often the #3 hitter will come up in the first inning with nobody on. And once you go through the batting order once the order becomes irrelevant. Hitting your best guy second will lead to more at bats for said hitter over the course of the full season. |

Matt Harvey vs Stephen Strasburg this afternoon.
Hoping for a tie because rivals, but really wish I could watch that pitching matchup. |

Mets take the series in Washington
Yeah it's a depleted Nats lineup but in recent years it didn't seem to matter who they threw out there, they always killed the Mets. Glad they were able to take advantage when a lot of their key guys were out. Sounds like Harvey looked mad good. Can't wait to watch the highlights later. |

Everybody and their damn dog picking the Nats to win the WS this year. Taking a series from them is huge.

When was the last time the consensus best team entering the season actually won the whole thing? The 2009 Yankees? And before that you probably need to go back to the 2000 Yankees or something. Things never quite shake out how you expect.

$5 will probably get you $10 this weekend if you bet some pitcher gets a no-hitter by the end of the weekend. Season's not even a week old and already a handful of hurlers came close.
Trevor Bauer took one into the 9th this afternoon, but Jed Lowrie broke it up with a solo homer. |

Detroit Tigers 3-0. 22-1 outscored the Twinkies. Hmm 22-1 looks familiar.

Youngest player is Blue Jays pitchers Roberto Osuna (20 years, 62 days). I'm almost 13 years older than him. Latroy Hawkins is 42 and 9.5 years older than me. Depressing

Ugh. Defense absolutely killed the Mets tonight. Wright made one of the dumbest plays of his career, they STILL nearly got out of a bases loaded jam that resulted from it only to give up a 3-2 2-run base knock to Phil Gosselin, who I've never heard of.

MLB Network guys pleading for the Sox-Yankees game to end already. One of them was making fun of Stephen Drew for not trying to hit into the wide open gap in left field to bring the guy at 1st home.

Claiming he didn't know how it got into his body, of course. Dumbass. And since he's on the DL it doesn't count towards the 80 games either.
Anyway at least Bobby Parnell should be back soon to handle the 9th innings with Jeurys Familia. Rafael Montero has looked pretty awesome too. |

Bartolo Colon Another great outing AND he had the go-ahead RBI hit at one point. His first RBI in 10 years.
Pitching has been really good. Offense has struggled and the defense has been downright awful...but you know what? They faced Scherzer, Zimmermann, Strasburg, and Teheran. 4 ace-quality guys, and Alex Wood is no slouch either. I'd have signed up for a .500 record on this first road trip and that's what they got. Pumped to watch the home opener. Weather's supposed to be great. Wish I was going. |
