Why does my fan get very loud when I turn my monitor off?

It's an old P4 with an upgraded power supply and video card. No idea why the fan goes into overdrive when I turn the monitor off. When I turn it back on, the fan goes back to idle pretty much. What the h is going on.

Questions/comments/complaints?

Weird. It sounds like the monitor was probably sapping juice, which doesn't make sense, now that I think about it. Unless the PC Power supply is also powering the monitor. It might be that the power supply is too big and whatever power it allocated to the video card was reallocated elsewhere not in use by the monitor? Not sure if that's possible, though. Still learning the power supply end of things.

If that doesn't sound right, I apologize.

Thank you for the reply. All is fixed now. I just had to ask a forum that knew a thing or two about computers.

Red face

Enlighten me, what was the cause? First I've ever heard of this happening.
