Whoa, Dean Ambrose! Was not expecting him.... well, was expecting that maybe eventually he would go AEW......
Def gonna have to check out more now.... wish they had their TV show already, because now they don't really have anywhere to follow up on any of this stuff...... |

That's cool but I don't really see why the Union Jack flag was on his jacket. Remember when that tease first started and would have never thought about it Mox being who it was. Good distraction if anything or he could be starting up a faction that includes a UK wrestler.

It’s surreal to see an audience that big for a wrestling event NOT held by WWE. It’s almost like nostalgia from the WCW days.

The noise this crowd produced was really something. You go so long without hearding it you almost forget what a wrestling crowd sounds like.

They were loud for pretty much everything. Also liked that they put the title beltsegment wth Bret, Page and MJF in after the Cody match to give the audience a chance to breath, as opposed to WWE's approach of getting the crowd up then bringing them back down, then up, then down, etc.
Also, I loved MJF. Hadn't seen him ever before that promo. But I thought he came like a shit bag heel and loved what I saw. Still buzzing over this show. Really wish they had a damn tv show right now. |

Knew that the Bucks were going to win bc Penta was already posting about them vs. the Bucks again at Verano de Escandalo (basically AAA's SummerSlam) before DoN even happened. I expect Penta and Fenix will win the belts there and that will be the end of it.
Really hate the Young Bucks style of "we just do dumb flippy shit for the sake of dumb flippy shit." I get that they are supposed to be like video game CAWs or something, but it's dumb to me. Feel like it's a disservice to both Penta and Fenix to have them as a tag team instead of having 2 separate main event talents, but they seem to be more comfortable as a team, so okay. I fully believe that they have had like 20 5 star matches against each other that only their family was present for. The company that figures out that they should split and have a real main event feud is going to print money, IMO. Fenix is a natural face and probably the second coming of Rey Mysterio, and Penta has an insane amount of charisma and knows how to tell stories without any words that an American audience would understand. Also, all of you that act like WWE using the word Lucha means they invented it are definitely dumb as fuck. Thanks for listening. |

I watched the Orange Cassidy spot. I have to say... that was fucking stupid. Dreamer was overly generous with him. If it were me and he were doing those half assed leg kicks, I'd have "accidentally" potato'd him in the face, on principle.

That's his gimmick though. I like it but he'll have to switch it up or else it will get old after he does it a few times.

Yeah his entire gimmick is being a nonchalant comedy wrestler in the ring.
It works way better as a side attraction than something done every week which is why it would never really work in a place like WWE but could in NXT due to how they book shows. He's also pretty good when he does work serious or normal but lets his matches build up to that point first. |

The match he had with David Starr last year for Beyond Wrestling usually gets brought up the most when it comes to showcasing his actual skills as a wrestler. 1st 5 minutes or so is him in his comedy role and then starts showing off more of his real skills and being really effective in the underdog role.
The 6-man tag match he had at WrestleCon's Memorial show in April was a lot more heavy in his comedy gimmick but shined the most when Christopher Daniels went along with the act. |

Pretty sure Ambrose's first AEW match is against Janela, which will surely be a win to build him up. Funny how you immediately decided they'd blow their wad on Mox vs Omega since you're busy being a smarmy know-it-all. |

Probably not for a couple more weeks. Not even Tony Khan knows at the moment.
Observer's Dave Meltzer speculated that its likely higher than what All In did for buys and possibly even higher than UFC's last event when combining traditional PPV and streaming buys. His speculation was based on having the numbers from stream buys and using what Forbes did with Google trends to come up with an estimated guess for the overall amount. |

I don’t think the Google trends are necessarily going to equate to buys. It will no doubt do better than All In.

Think the idea with using it for estimates is that a sizeable percentage is going to be from people who ordered the event or are very likely ordering it. Same with using social media trends and activity to help with the guessing.
Even something like 10% of searches being from people who bought the event would give around 20k as an estimate for buys going by Google trends alone. |

98k is pretty great honestly
Would make it the highest buyrate for a non-wwe/non-wcw wrestling ppv ever |

It’s better than anything TNA did, but closer to that than a B-tier WWE PPV prior to the Network. It’s a long way from being out of the niche. TV is going to give them a better shot. I imagine the show was profitable, which is a good start.

Great show! I'm not entirely into the indy scene these days, so I'm not completely familiar with everyone, but everything about this show was just a huge breath of fresh air over WWE's product.
There was a very "real" feeling to the whole night, which has long since been lost on WWE's "entertainment" style of repetitive matches, scripted promos, commentating that is more concerned about promoting products and catchphrases. Every match seemed important, especially thanks to Jim Ross, and it's kinda cool seeing the "older audience", rather than kids in brightly coloured t-shirts. It wasn't the best PPV ever or anything like that, but in 2019 this is exactly what wrestling (especially in the West) needs. As unlikely as it seems, Jon Moxley could be to AEW what Steve Austin was to the WWF in 1996. |

According to the Observer, ECW currently holds the record for most buys for a non-WWE/WCW event in the US at 99k.
Assuming this one really is at 98k for live numbers, AEW very likely will break the record once replay buys are factored in. For some comparisons, TNA/Impact's best ever was only in the 50-60k range. |

My ratings for the show
Finally, I have my ratings for the show ready for you guys so without further delay...
CASINO BATTLE ROYAL - * This was stupid and at the time of and certainly in hindsight was a poor opening match for the show and it's good that it was the pre show so you can make the argument that the opening match was on the ppv.... Sammy Gurvea vs Kip Sabian - * 1/2 Nothing offensive but it was the most boring match I've seen Sammy in. The lack of why should I care was overwhelming with this one. Totally fine for a pre show though. SCU vs Black Hearts *** 3/4 I loved this match. The action was so hot, and technically precise. The charisma of SCU was off the charts and a great way to open up the show. Strong Hearts looked so good, what a fun match and yes very reminiscent in their own way of a WCW 6-Man cruiser on PPV or Nitro, just much better. Women's Four-Way *** This match ended very strong and that keeps the rating quite high. There were moments that it was in the ** range or lower but by the end they pulled off a very entertaining match. Kylie Rae's gimmick is so so for me but in the ring she is really great. Baker seems to be very solid but slightly green, Nyla was okay but kinda indyriffic and Kong was a good pop but in the ring very weak. Best Friends vs Angelico and Evans *** 1/2 The match started with little heat but the action never let up. Thankfully the got the crowd great by the end. Angelico and Evans are insane and I love watching them do amazing bumps. Chuckie T is awesome and I think could be a future main player in AEW. Trent, I am not as sold on but his look and in ring work is fantastic. I've just not seen a lot of personality from him that makes him pop to me. Joshi 6 Woman Tag **** I fucking loved this. I felt like it went on a long time and I still didn't want it to end. So much hot Japanese and also so much bull dyke style. I loved the action and I hope they keep these women coming back. Cody vs Dustin ***** This was everything. I could''nt have imagined this being so good. The emotion made it an instant classic. The blood was too much but you can't control that and still it was amazing. The Young Bucks vs The Lucha Brothers **** 1/2 This was excellent, Young Bucks were at their best. They are the Evil Kenival of Pro Wrestling. I love watching the moves they come up with. I'm also a huge Lucha Bro's fan and I have touched both of their hands before. Omega vs Jericho II **** 3/4 Perfect match for these two. I loved the violence and I though Kenny was in top form. I hope to see another showdown to settle the score soon. This is going to go down as one of my all time favorite PPV's ever of all time. |
