Morbid as it is, is it time for a bit of spring cleaning?

There are so many people on the WWE roster. There are too many employees to give everyone satisfactory focus. You also have a backlog of talent in NXT. I know people don't want to see them called up for personal enjoyment reasons, but the idea for the guys and gals down there is to eventually become a featured player on the main roster. And they are getting ready way quicker than main roster talent are leaving.

Being released isn't necessarily a bad thing. For a promotion, for wrestling in general, or for the talent themselves. How much better is a talent on Raw's undercard, who can barely make Main Event, really going to get working comedy matches on the house show tour? Change is exciting, and it would help WWE and the wrestling scene out if there was some movement.

There is apparently a lot of talent that want out. That seems like a good place to start. Do you really want people on the road, whispering into the ears of others and influencing the morale of their friends? It might just be better to let talent that want out the chance to leave and try to develop themselves somewhere else and hope they fly back later.

The issue with that is that some of this talent actually seems like they could be "difference-makers" elsewhere. Still, Vince used to like a challenge. Let AEW see what they can do with a Rusev or Cesaro. If you let talent out of their contracts now, then they aren't going to be legally allowed to compete at Double or Nothing anyway, so they can conceivably cool, or be brought in as a wave where everything sort of blends together. Is it really something to worry about?

I don't think WWE is getting rid of anybody unless said person does something to get fired or requests a release while being seen as a low priority star but a good dude, like Dillinger or Hideo.

It's better to have a deep bench that doesn't cost much than to free up cash by getting rid of people who may end up elsewhere. Just my opinion.

I think enough people will choose to not resign when their contract is up, which will be the cleaning going forward, at least for the next 5 years of the massive TV deals.

Yes they need to get rid of some people. The last batch of call ups shows how bad they need to and then we have guys waiting on the sidelines who have come back from injury but they have nothing for them ie Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper, even Kevin Owens is just stuck at the moment as a talk show host.

They need to swap and change things around as well , Sanity are doing nothing. You could move Killian Dain out of that group and push him as a ‘monster’ heel.

It really struck me last year reading the list of names in the Battle Royal at Mania. You could really cut everyone and it wouldn't matter. I love Chad Gable and he was in there, but I wouldn't say he was crucial to your show or anything. But save him and fire everyone else? No one notices.

Get rid of the Hardy's ( seriously who cares? ).

Long overdue for a cleaning. Just way too many people on the roster, and they keep calling people up, who are then doomed because they have too many people on the roster. (Well, more issues than that, but the too many people certainly doesn't help)

WWE isn't just getting rid of anybody. If Shelton Benjamin or The Colons are happy making a few hundred grand a year for doing nothing but house show Battle Royals, and they stay out of trouble, Vince will keep them on, just in case.

Stock is at an all time high, profits are at an all time high, and they haven't even started getting that new TV deals money.

When WWE used to release 10 talents at a time, it was so they could add a million or two to their bottom line, and the stock was like $12 a share.

It's a far different situation now. Plus look at it from these points:
1. WWE can respond to media critics by saying things along the line of "the average wrestler is under contract with WWE for 7 years, it used to be 2, so we are taking care of talent better."
2. Letting somebody go didn't matter 5-10 years ago, because there was no potential for it to backfire. Now what happens if they cut somebody, then they go get over big in AEW, it only makes WWE look bad AND gives wrestlers more advantage in that they know they have another option.

Look through the last 4 years, they have not had a single spring cleaning, not one. They have no reason to. Maybe WWE decides to make another brand, to get another TV deal, they certainly have enough talent for it. Of course it would be overkill, but don't think for one second that if someone offered Vince $100 Million a year for an hour long show with more of a lower budget small deal that would feature different talent that Vince wouldn't take it.

I'm not saying it is at all likely, but with the roster size they certainly could do it. Would be a good place to try and revitalize careers, since they no longer send guys down to NXT.

I’ve said before that it would genuinely not surprise me if WWE announces they are not going to give up Tuesdays and plant something against AEW. That way, production crew and some talent can keep their schedule up. NXT is a little about giving new production crew training, so they could move some crew around and maybe call up more people and divvy up the workload. Back before they lost Ambrose, I thought it could be a Shield member each show, a New Day member each show, Ronda/Becky/Charlotte being separated, a bunch of women being called up, a few NXT debuts, Bryan/Gargano/Rey/Jeff separated (your plucky “heart of gold” faces at the time), etc.

I don’t think they will do a clean, but I think Lock Jaw’s reasoning is sound. Talent are just sitting around, and many are getting antsy (Harper, Benjamin, Gallows, Anderson, Cesaro, Harper, Mojo, Ryder, Revival, Dillinger was there, Sin Cara, Heath Slater, Nakamura, Rusev, EC3). All those names have made some public reference to looking at something else. That has to affect morale and make talent feel unfulfilled, even if there are some that are fine collecting a participation pay check.
