Rate the Game: Week 141
Prepare yourselves! It's once again time for the weekly shindig that we call Rate the Game! We keep on trucking while looking for the greatest and brightest gems in the video game landscape. Speaking of landscapes, the ruins of Fallout 4 were explored last week and now we've got to see how they hold up. Our leaderboard is awaiting its placement. How does Fallout 4 stack up against the competition? Does it fare any better than its predecessor?
Sadly, Fallout 4 falls short of Fallout 3 by about 22 slots, but an average score of 3.75 isn't that terrible in the grand scheme of things when you think about it. One can only wonder how well New Vegas would do in our little gauntlet. Maybe it's our next game? Who knows? Oh, right; the bowl knows. Let's see what it's got for us this week! Once again we've been blessed with another game. This time, we're diving back into the PlayStation's past and talking about some good ol' fashioned spy thriller/action fun. Eidetic and 989 Studios team up to bring us this third-person title: Syphon Filter! This was the first entry of the series and kickstarted the exploits of one Gabe Logan in his battle against terrorism. But how did Gabe do in his battle in the video game arena? Is there enough moxie in this game to make it one of the original PlayStation's classics? It's up to your judgment, boys and girls. Let's put Syphon Filter through the ringer and see what you have to say about it. Until next week! No matter what may happen to me, just remember Lzzy Hale gave me the bedroom eyes... ...again. |

Never played. But just like with Sucker Punch and Sly Cooper put them on the video game map, Syphon Filter got things going for Bend Studio.
Unlike Sucker Punch, Bend hasn't put out anything groundbreaking for some time. Days Gone was their most recent game and that came out to solid reviews. But wasn't much to write home about. |

Any memories I have of this are completely replaced by Splinter Cell. There is no Syphon Filter.

Haven't played it but do own a copy of it that I bought a few months ago that I've just never got around to playing.
My only real knowledge about this game comes from gifs and videos of people setting enemies on fire if you taser them long enough. |

I would like to have a Manhunt remake. That was one of the most brutal games I played.

Manhunt got that very rare AO rating so you know they weren't fucking around.

I distinctly remember having a plastic bag, putting it over a person's head and them stabbing them through the bag with a glass shard I picked up from a broken window.
That was one of the first kills in that game. I never got to the end, but I made it to the mansion right before Piggy (or whatever). |

I got to the asylum right where yoy had to preform brutal kills and forgot the mechanics on how to do that. Someone stole then game from me before I learned how to do it again.

Looking things over, I didn't know the series had gone past the second game, with more than 15 years since the last release. I wonder if it will ever get some kind of revival down the road.
That aside, this was a welcome addition to the Playstation library, especially when there wasn't much like this over on the Nintendo 64, aside from Perfect Dark and GoldenEye 007. Not that those latter two are anything to sneeze at. |
