Is it really called the TNT Championship?
That's like, ripping off WWE's Universal Championship. |

Kissing some corporate ass, but it also works as a mid-card title. Let's see how they juggle this and the world title now they exist.....

A midcard title wasn’t inevitable.
Not the worst way to fill TV time for these next few weeks provided they can get a limited number of guys from their roster out there to keep doing shows. Though they haven’t committed to a timeframe for that very reason. |

The belt could use a better name but doing a singles tournament now is a pretty good idea considering the circumstances.
The 10 people recommendation for shows really tied their hands when it came to their big plans for Blood & Guts and their strength with tag and multi-man wrestling. At least this should provide something meaningful to keep viewers hooked for the time being. |

They don't need another belt. The name is also awful, and it's going to look horrible if they get booted off TNT.

The name doesn't bother me.
They definitely need a mid-card title. They aren't getting booted off TNT any time soon. |

Cool. Makes sense to give the singles match some focus if they’re limited to those rather than tag matches.
Be interesting to see if it’ll be for the guys who could already be in the main event or just on the edge of it (Hangman, PAC, Archer, MJF, Cody etc), which could make sense since their main title feuds last a few months at a time with the PPV’s so well spread out, so it could be years before any of these guys get a meaningful shot at the title. Or if it’ll be for some of the younger/mid card guys to give them a boost (Darby Allin, Sammy G, Jungle Boy, Kip Sabian etc) |

PAC winning it in like 6 months time and the Death Triangle splitting up to have a three way feud over it would be pretty great.

Yeah, I really don't get the hate for the title name. If the argument is that it'll be an epic failure because of the corporate name...well, the flagship show is friggin called Dynamite.

Nothing wrong with the name. Off the top of my head there’s only 3 things about AEW that I haven’t liked
1. Matt Hardy teleporting 2. Cody’s neck tattoo 3. Shirtless Evil Uno Not bad going for them really and they’ve seemingly fixed two of them. Cody will have to copy Jericho and start wrestling in a scarf |

After awhile, Cody's neck tat will be as innocuous as anything else.

Honestly surprised they didn't haveMJF just make up a belt based on running that diamond ring. Call it the AEW diamond championship or some shit. Get him more heat for being a prick and a mid card belt.

*WWE creates Universal Championship*
"Boo! Suck-ups!" *TNA creates TNT Championship* "Yay! How brilliant and creative?" People are allowed to be biased. That's fine. It's just sickening from the outside. |

I took the Universal Championship to mean more that it's BIGGER than the WORLD or HEAVYWEIGHT. I'm not sure your casual fan would even think about the parent of USA Network as the reason for the name.

My problem with the Universal championship was more the fact that having two “world” champions in one company is fucking stupid. An old school TV title that is just literally named for the TV station is fine.
MJF HAS to be the first champion though. I’m big on every title meaning something. Being the world champ should mean you’re the best the company has to offer. It should be saved for the stars. The secondary champion should signify the “best of the next tier”. MJF holding it and defending it in main events on free TV, thus allowing the world champion to take a backseat, be treated as a special attraction and not be over exposed sounds perfect. |

Feel the better comparison should be with WWE's 24/7 title since that belt and its name was influenced by the USA Network.
Still think the belt's name could be better but at least it fits in with the show being called Dynamite. Even if AEW were to move to a different network in the future, they could still use the TNT name for the belt for Dynamite to keep the theme running. |

Who ever claimed that the Universal belt was named after NBC's full name?
WWE named their belt after the WWE Universe which is what they call their fanbase and later their wrestling world when they spun the name off for other stuff. |

Yeah, that’s what the Wiki says, but it’s also clearly supposed to invoke ideas of NBC Universal. Otherwise they’d have just called it the “WWE Universe Championship” and use their preferred proper noun.

Why? Why do you make these stupid arguments? You're pissing on something that hasn't even been on TV yet. I thought that was your whole thing... Guess not.

No it wasn't.
They picked Universal because the name was influenced by their fanbase and it also followed the brand warfare angle going on at the time. Plus the term "WWE Universe" itself is mainly only used for actual fan-related stuff by WWE. |

I don’t LOVE the name but I don’t hate it. Time will tell.
Midcard title is a good idea, it’s time. I just wish they did a 16 man tourney. They have all the time in the world right now. Be nice to put some meaning behind some more matches. Could do a couple upsets and what not that way. I think it’s going to be pretty obvious who the finals will be. |

Problem is they are limited in the talent they have available considering what's going on. I'm stunned theydecided you announce this now given the limitations they're facing.

Have you thought about why they use the name "WWE Universe" in the first place? And all of this is just to circumvent my actual point which is that the name fucking sucks and the idea sucks. This is a belt for the sake of a belt. That never works. It never matters. I guarantee you that this belt will be just like every other belt that exists for no reason. Those "mid-card" titles existed for reasons. Not true. I like good shit. That there's no good shit isn't my fault. |
