Constructing an Ultimate Alliance-style game but with the DC Universe

I don't know of any DC games that have flat out matched the presentation of the games in the Ultimate Alliance series. You know, large roster, four members to a team simultaneously, multiple acts, a large journey across the DC landscape. How would you put together such a game? What would the roster look like? What gameplay tweaks would you change/add? The forum is yours. I've enjoyed the Arkham and Injustice games well enough, but I always thought it be fun to do what Marvel did.

No matter what may happen to me, just remember Lzzy Hale gave me the bedroom eyes...

...again.

There is actually one such DC game that emulated XMen Legends/MUA design (which really is superhero Diablo). Did not do well.

MUA3 was a tad more arcadey than the others so I'd take MUA1, pump it up, based on DC universe.

Xmen legends 2 is one of my all time favorite games. MUA 1/2 were good but they streamlined some things and it made for a less rich rpg for my tastes. I liked them though. 3 is a bad rpg but plays ok so it isnt horrible. That said im all for more games of this ilk. Gauntlet with beat em up mechanics works pretty well and DC definitely has a deep enough roster to make interesting.

With Midnight Suns, Guardians, Gotham Knights and even Avengers doing so poorly i cant see too many gambles with these expensive to license properties. Suicide Squads impending failure is another nail in the coffin id wager.

Games are far too expensive to produce to take chances like these. Add on top extra costs for the intellectual properties...i dunno. The age of these kind of ideas seems long gone.

I always envisioned the perfect game of this type would combine the presentation of the first Ultimate Alliance, the graphics of the second, and the roster depth of the third.

That being said, I always thought the "choose your response" feature from the second Ultimate Alliance was something that was squandered and not used to its full potential. It'd be something to be able to create some kind of branching storyline using this mechanic. Like maybe a certain response or question unlocks a mission objective you wouldn't have normally tackled.

I guess while we're on the subject of roster depth, I figure this would be a good start:

Batman
Superman (I'd actually struggle over the decision of whether or not to have both Superman AND Supergirl as you're basically getting two of the same thing, but if we can have three Spider-People in Ultimate Alliance 3, I think we can get away with both Clark and Kara)
Wonder Woman
Green Lantern (which version could be determined via skin swapping between Jordan, Stewart, and the like)
Martian Manhunter
Flash (like Quicksilver, he'd run the risk of being ridiculously OP but the same could be said of Superman)
Green Arrow
Aquaman
Nightwing (this raises the question of whether we'd also want a Robin)
Cyborg
Raven
Starfire
Lobo
Captain Marvel/Shazam
Black Canary
Catwoman

I'm sure there'd be people who'd want someone like Harley Quinn or whatever, and I could absolutely see her being the Deadpool of the bunch.

I wouldn't worry about characters whose powersets are the same or overlaps conceptually since that doesn't mean they'd mechanically play identical. Especially if we want a few Green Lanterns, Kryptonians, or Arrows which are respective groups of heroes with the same abilities. For variety's sake I imagine the launch roster at least to be wholly unique characters before double dipping into a family of character types. Supergirl and Guy Gardener could be DLC.

What I'd love is an open world approach Diablo is doing. The Legends/MUA had backtracking but they were more or less really big stages, ya know? Imagine Gotham, Metropolis, Coast City, Star City, Central City, Themyscera, Apokalips, etc. Big living zones with events and dungeons.

A creative motherfucker could have a field day designing Apokalips, not just with level layout, but visually. Obviously your team would face waves and waves of Parademons as the main cannon fodder leading up to Darkseid. He or Braniac would work well as the final boss.

I'd also want a larger selection of skills a la X-Men Legends 2/the first Ultimate Alliance, but each one being more strategic in certain parts so you're making your choices more carefully. Ultimate Alliance 2 kind of dipped its toe in this area by adding the idea of resistances. Unfortunately, this gave someone like Iceman a rough time with all the fucking robots.

Can't believe I forgot Zatanna for the roster. She'd work well in the Doctor Strange role for the team. Blue Beetle would be a fine addition, too.
