Rate the Game: Week 132
Oof, boy howdy, did this slip my mind or what? Got my mind on another project and we're also worrying about these thunderstorms. But never fear! Lateness aside, we shall be getting down to business with Rate the Game: Week 132!!! It's been some rough sailing with a selection of games that haven't really set the board on fire. The Secret of Mana from last week is looking like it's not going to fare any better. Let's have a look....
With an overall score of 2.2, The Secret of Mana comes oh-so close to unseating Ghosts n' Goblins from its position as the lowest scored game of the pack. We must press on, however, in our quest to find the cream of the crop of the gaming world. Can we break this streak of games that have been below average? Speak to us, bowl! ![]() Well, look at that. This week we go back to the arcades with one the biggest staples of said establishments. It's yet another take on the beat-'em'up genre from Konami, the Marvel mutant coin-guzzler, X-Men! Whether it's the 4-player version or the fully loaded 6-player machine, this game needs your take on it and your rating! How was this excursion from the merry mutants? Let's do that rating thing and we'll see you next week. Sorry for the delay. ![]() ![]() No matter what may happen to me, just remember Lzzy Hale gave me the bedroom eyes... ![]() ...again. |

Voted "never played it" mainly because I only ever played it once or twice at most and not enough to form any real opinion over it.
I think I never managed to get past the 2nd level and the combine play time would have been minuscule compared to other arcade games I've played both in arcades and console ports. |

Remember beating this with a friend on my birthday. Spent 20 bucks in quarters to do it. Totally worth it. All time great in the beat em up genre. |

I would only go to the arcade for birthday parties, had "free" tokens for your entire stay there. Beat the simpsons game there with a friend.

Both Sega X-Men titles were fucking great. The graphics alone were worth the price of admission. Mutant Apocalypse on the SNES was also great but I'd have to play them again to pick a favorite.

The line-up that you got in the game always perplexed me because I was familiar with the roster from the animated series. It wasn't until years later when I found out that the game was supposed to go hand in hand with the original pitch for the X-Men show. The "Pryde of the X-Men" pilot cleared up a lot. But even then, that was an odd thing to put together considering the state of the X-Men in the comics at the time. |

I'm glad they did though. It's the only represtation in games I can think of for the classic claremont x-men.

It's one of the really few games where you can play as Dazzler, although I'm sure someone's modded her into one of the Legends games. I know she's an NPC in one of the versions of the second game. I included her in my roster for a third game because it's been overdue.
It's still a toss up between Colossus and Nightcrawler as to had the better power. |
