According to Vince Russo and his interview on wrestlecrap the orignal person who was behind gtv was going to be Tom Green. Wwe just never bothered actually showing who was behind it and it just faded out with most assuming goldust was behind it.

Why are they trying to sell people on the concept of the Impostor Kane being a mystery? Anyone not living under a rock the past 3 years knows it's the guy who today plays the role of Festus.

I thought GTV was originally called GDTV and then Goldust got released or something like that so they had to switch it.

Was always GTV. I assume people associate it with goldust because of the voyeurism aspect to it, hopefuly not just because it has G in the title. As said above Tom Green was (according to russo) originally going to be the one behind it but mcmahon shot down the idea saying that nobody knew who he was.

Well wikipedia agrees with me
Throughout 1999, vignettes featuring footage of wrestlers began airing on television. The vignettes were originally referred to as GDTV (Goldust Television), with the intention of eventually revealing Goldust as the person behind them, but were renamed GTV after Rhodes requested and was granted a release from his contract.[5] |

I don't ever recall it coming up as GDTV, it always had that little audio byte behind it saying "gtv" as well. Lets face it if it was called gdtv then it would be pretty obvious who was behind it.
Also i wouldnt cite wiki as a credible source. |

I remember it being GDTV, as well. It was kind of short, and then switched. I think it was actually talked about here.

I'm 100% positive the first one was GDTV. I believe it was footage of either Mark Henry or the Big Show shitting up a storm in the bathroom.

I heard that GTV was going to be a hidden locker room webcam series on WWE announcer Lilian Garcia before Vince was informed it may not get passed the censors.

Interesting article, actually. Everytime I think of Joey Styles, however, I wish that he would return to the commentary booth. Joey Styles and Jerry Lawler could have an interesting dynamic now if King was pissed off about having to work with Styles. Jim Ross would have the patience and lack of ego to actually work with Styles productively and do the best job possible with him. And Styles and Matt Striker would just be sonic sex.
At the very least I wish they would let him do Superstars once in a while with someone, or sit in and add extra insight to a broadcast. A Todd Grisham, Jim Ross and Joey Styles trio on SmackDown! could actually be really interesting. |
