There absolutely is, AEW was cooking before Punk came in and started beating everybody. His first promo he told Darby "the most dangerous thing you can do is get in a ring with me", like he isn't the dude that got tickled like a baby and flipped around his emo hair while doing twirlees.

the punk issue is a real one. if you claim credibility is irrelevant you should ask yourself why lesnar coming back worked so well. there are ways you could have nursed punk back to health (though he should never get near a top guy or even an undercard title again [EVER]) but to have him go back to pretending to be tough day one was a massive blunder

I couldn't agree more. Credibility plays an important role as perception means everything in professional wrestling. The thing about fans is that they're very forgiving when it comes to their heroes. It's very hypocritical.

i do think there was a path to redemption for his characters image but its a path that had to walked. had to. one punks ego likely never noticed was needed. skipping that step hurts everyone he works with. both directly and indirectly.

I'm not sure what that would've looked like. Fans would've probably revolted if he was booked differently. I guess he's a big enough / recognizable name to challenge for the world title at Double or Nothing. I just hope Page retains.

Punk is def big enough to draw in the core AEW crowd but there's a stigma that creates a clear plateau. i dont think he can grow the brand to reach even peak TNA/Impact numbers let alone anything beyond that due to the stink MMA put on him. i think the average person who knows who he is sees him, laughs, and changes the channel.

I think the guy is the same bitter jealous mark he has always been and AEW is worse for hitching their wagon to him.

So you had the option to not indulge and be mature about this but you chose otherwise. And I'm certain that anyone who has ever posted here is aware of those horrendous memes you use to plaster everywhere.

Once again, your opinion on CM Punk isn't unique. A lot of people share that. It's just that when have a disagreement we do not degrade ourselves to spamming the forum with garbage memes. Logical reasoning or being rational isn't your strong suit.

I'd say that's a bit of a stretch but there's certainly a sizeable crossover.

I guess it's safe to assume that the AEW fanbase and the hardcores will be receptive to a world title win. Even if it'd be a terrible decision considering how much they've invested in Page since the company started.

AEW gets a lot of leeway as far as criticism is concerned. The recent TNT title changes have been a detriment to the perception of the belt. Felt like it had more luster when wrestlers like Cody, Miro, and Darby held it.

aew is the tale of 2 spectrums. it get little to no criticism from its fandom and gets nothing but criticism from its detractors. its very much the same kind of tribalism thats infected every level of modern culture. objectivity is dead. long live absolutism.

i think pretty clearly im not in either camp. my loyalty is to a product that makes sense. doesnt matter who makes it. its a pretty low bar tbh. my preferences are wrestling presented as sport. no one did that better than japan until the midish 00s. really when Misawa died it all shifted pretty hard.

I think you have the plot backwards. This happened because I had valid criticisms of Punk, and the pushback was " you are dumb, you can't read, fuck you, Punk banged your girlfriend" etc.

My opinion of Punk hasn't changed, it is all the same as it was before he ever came back.

I remember going to the original Fyter Fest. It was only their 2nd or 3rd show overall at that point. Had a VERY different feel to it, especially being there.

Still the weirdest thing to me is how over Darby quickly got because at FF everyone in the crowd was crapping all over him hard. I dunno if they covered the crowd or what for the TV feed but it was BAD.
