Yeah someone left to get beer after the Omega/Danielson match and returned near the end of Malakai/Cody. Missed Punk’s promo and basically 2 whole matches.

Cool venue but Arthur Ashe is in no way equipped for a crowd of that size.

Also most sports venues have 2 mens rooms for every women’s room. Not for a tennis stadium though.

It was by far the loudest crowd I've ever heard in my life. Especially when Adam Cole gets his entrance, holy shit.

The vast majority of the crowd stayed, which was good to see. Did have a few people eventually split with 2 matches left to go though because they had trains to catch.

I went the 7 line which as it turns out wasn’t going to Manhattan like it usually would, so I transferred over to the F and ended up just getting off at whatever stop got me closest to the hotel and walked.

Think I walked like 20 miles today, calves are barking

Overall I'd much rather AEW try to run Barclays because it's a lot better of a venue. Sure it's not as big of a venue but it's sick and it's the perfect venue for wrestling in nearly every seat.

My seats were in the middle of the tip tier and we really felt quite far so next time if they go to Arthur Ashe and I go I will splurge for closer tickets. But also to be honest I prefer watching at home. There was a lot of retards and burn victims and I saw some shit I never saw before in the attendees of this show. I saw those that evolved from the sewers of NYC.

The crowd really hated Cody, very much like John Cena or Roman in their babyface days. He came out looking like Homelander from The Boys. That's gotta be where they go with him, find some way to make him more like Homelander and he will be a great heel for AEW for a long time.

Also I thought that a lot of the moves I see on AEW that look like shit looked really good live.

I thought that Ruby Soho looked like a baby when she ran and worked really light. Same for Pillman he's working too light at times and still doesn't have a real personality.

AEW Rampage: Grand Slam


This was taped after Dynamite and will air this Friday at 10 PM ET on TNT.

Commentary: Excalibur, Taz & Ricky Starks

- CM Punk defeated Powerhouse Hobbs via GTS after Hook got on the apron, but Hobbs accidentally ran into him. Hobbs controlled most of the match. CM Punk was wearing short trunks, not pants.

- Adam Cole & The Young Bucks defeated Christian Cage, Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus via the Last Shot by Cole on Luchasaurus, following a Panama Sunrise and BTE Trigger on him. This was an extremely fun match and the crowd was hot.

- Men of the Year defeated Chris Jericho & Jake Hager via small package by Scorpio Sky on Hager after Dan Lambert tripped Hager when he was running to the ropes. The crowd was probably the quietest all night for this match. Afterwards, Jericho and Hager brought Lambert into the ring and were going to attack him, but members of American Top Team, including Jorge Masvidal and Paige VanZant came out and attacked Jericho and Hager.

- The Lucha Brothers, Santana & Ortiz defeated Private Party, The Butcher & The Blade via blockbuster by Santana & Ortiz on Quen, with Santana getting the pin. Fun match. Matt Hardy was going to cut Santana's hair with scissors during the match, but Orange Cassidy came out and took out Jack Evans, then went backstage after about 10-15 seconds.

- Segment: Sammy Guevara, Fuego Del Sol, Miro - Guevara came out with Fuego onto the stage to do his cue card thing, but Miro appeared from behind and totally destroyed Guevara and Fuego. He threw Fuego off of the stage through a table, then locked on Game Over on Guevara. The crowd popped big for Miro.

- Penelope Ford defeated Anna Jay via punching her with brass knucks. The Bunny distracted the ref and threw the knucks into the ring to Penelope. They attacked Jay after the match. Tay Conti ran out, but she was also hit with the knucks. The Hardy Family Office then came out, then Orange Cassidy, Kris Statlander and The Dark Order came out to clear the ring of the heels. The Dark Order had some sort of disagreement and Uno and Stu Grayson walked out of the ring and backstage to some boos. The rest of the faces in the ring all hugged each other.

- Lights Out Match: Jon Moxley & Eddie Kingston defeated Lance Archer & Minoru Suzuki via Kingston putting a trash can over Archer's head and repeatedly hitting it with a kendo stick. Archer and Suzuki controlled most of the match, at one point tying Moxley's hands up with duct tape and beating on him for a while. This was mostly a brawl with weapons. Towards the end, Archer was going to hit Kingston with the Blackout onto two chairs that were sat up, but Homicide came out for the save and took out Archer and freed Moxley from the tape. Eddie Kingston got on the mic after the match and said he loved NY, he loved his mom, and said that NYC is AEW's town and if you don't like it, fuck off.

Other Notes


- After Dynamite, The Acclaimed came out and Caster rapped, then said that they had challenged Tony Khan to a rap battle, but Khan was ducking them. Khan came out and introduced Lil Uzi Vert, who got a big reaction. Vert just stood there without saying anything and Khan did a quick rap, which included a line about suspending The Acclaimed again for 30 days. He then introduced the Varsity Blonds, who came out and took out the Acclaimed. Khan came out later and said to all the websites out there, he was just joking and isn't really suspending the Acclaimed, so please don't report that.

- During a Dynamite commercial break, Taz came out and cut a promo saying that Powerhouse Hobbs was going to defeat Punk on Rampage. Unclear if/when this will air. Interestingly, Taz had a version of his old ECW theme, Kiss's War Machine.

These matches were taped before Dynamite and will air on Monday, September 27 at 7 PM ET on AEW's YouTube channel.

Tony Schiavone, Mark Henry and Eddie Kingston were on commentary.

- Thunder Rosa defeated Kayla Sparks via Thunder Driver. Rosa got a huge pop.

- Eight Man Tag Match: The Dark Order (John Silver, Alex Reynolds, Alan Angels & 10) defeated four enhancement wrestlers via full nelson by 10. This was a fun match and the crowd was hot for Silver specifically.

- 3 on 1 Handicap Match: Paul Wight defeated Rickey Shane Page, VSK & CPA via double chokeslam. Wight dominated them. The Gunn Club came out on stage to watch the match.

Hyped for heel Cody tbh… fans are shitting on him, elaborate over the top ring gear and entourage while being an EVP… screams heel!

Could even run an angle down the track with him trying to chase the title he promised he would never challenge for.

Was just seeing some complain that AEW didn't do time cues on the PA during Omega/Bryan. They did actually I think it was 15/5/1 but the PA system wasn't great and the crowd was so loud that most people didn't know what he was saying unless they watched WCW back in the day.

The sound was kind of unlike anything I've ever experienced. I was in the top tier in the area the hard cam was facing. By the time sound would get to us (which sounded very jet like) we would already be making our own sound or chant and they would meet up in this symphony of exuberance.

You're at an arena that was designed for a sport that is as quiet as 90's NJPW shows. Designed for everyone to hear the mach of a tennis ball. Very amphitheater like.

Also I really wanted more bass slaps from the Young Bucks theme, hope they add a heavy bass track one day. GOTTA SLAP

Also the taping started at 7:15 so we saw 3 TV tapings in one setting. Nearly 5 hours of wrestling is just too fucking much. They gotta stop doing that shit right away.

Yeah, the challenge they keep having is Rampage only being an hour most weeks makes it hard to do as a stand-alone show unless the circumstances are right (Britt being mega over in Pittsburgh, Punk’s Chicago return etc), but on those nights they can always do a 2 hour Elevation taping or something

I dunno. I get why they did a 2 hour Rampage this week to maximize their return on the venue but yeah way too long of a show. Crowd was hot the whole time at least but it was clear on the way out everyone was wiped.....one guy tried starting a chant on the way to the subway and nobody a having any of it lol

The guy next to me (who ended up buying my spare ticket for 3 hundo) went for food at like 6:40 and missed the entire Elevation taping.

Not that missing squashes is a big deal but yeah, lines were wild

I remember watching some Wrestle Kingdoms that were so amazing I was stunned when it hit hour #4 because it flew by. I sorta felt that way here, I was so amped in-show that the length didn’t bother me but it was a collective crash leaving the arena. I usually sleep like shit the first night in a hotel and I was out cold lol

I’m glad you guys had a great time. It certainly translated to tv. That crowd was hot as fuck.

Glad to hear the crowd held its energy for Rampage.

Also lemme say one more time, Sting is fucking incredible. Dude is in his 60s, wrestled in 5 different decades, and is working great matches with guys half his age, hitting cross bodies off the top fucking rope like it ain’t shit.

How the fuck did they not run Sting v Taker? What a missed opportunity. Sting was more than good enough to go.

The PA system was bad all night, could barely hear or understand anything. In part cause of the crowd noise, but also when they were kinda being quiet, couldn't really make out what was being said in any backstage segments or video packages

Christian's response live was better than what I had expected and better than what I've heard before for him but it wasn't anything special at all. He absolutely needs to turn heel. He will be much more valuable to the undercard babyfaces as a heel against them.

I really enjoyed this show. Even with the draw ending, Omega vs bryan was one of the best matches I've seen on Free TV. THIS is the Kenny omega I've wanted to see since aew began, and it's the first instance I can think of, where his performance matched the quality of his njpw run.

I also want to point out a moment that shows what an amazing commentator Tony Schiavone is. When Bryan kicked out of the avalanche dragon suplex, Tony explained he was able to do so because he flipped and landed on his stomach. NO ONE ELSE DOES THIS. Any other commentator would have just freaked out and talked about Bryan's resilience despite the fact that it's pretty unbelievable that anyone could kick out of that no matter how resilient they are. Tony's analysis of the kickoff is a small touch but stuff like that adds so much to an already great match. Cornette is right that wrestling is at its best when it makes sense, and Tony helped them have a huge moment while still keeping it grounded in reality.

the two matches with omega showed me the dude hasn't lost a step in the ring, maybe some of his best work. but his character does feel kind of directionless otherwise so i'm hoping he can move on from being jungle boy's buddy soon.

Somewhat although think his "out work everyone" character is the main reason why he feels a bit off or out of place right now as a good guy.

Like if he's meant to be the hardest worker in the ring, there are others in AEW who could take that crown instead. Same for promos.

yeah Christian is still great in the ring. no problems there. like you guys are saying, the character doesn't feel right, especialy hanging around the jungle people lol. I can't stand them by the way. not my cup of tea. I'd rather another team have that spot feuding with The Elite
