"The Square" swedish film was really good... kinda "shot" like that movie Force Majeure... log of scenes where i started laughing like 5 seconds after they ended. its about a museum curator who makes a couple of fuckups where he uses like semi bad judgment but it ends up ruining his life

The Conjuring: The Devil Made me do it - 7/10

Series has gotten "a bit naff". Introducing fucking wizards into the mix now. Still I enjoyed it, and thought overall it had more memorable scares than the second one. First is still the best though.

Let's not bother with the "true story" nonsense. If you're going to take it that far off the rails, then let's go full on ridiculous. Give me a post apocalyptic hellscape dominated by evil spirits, demons, and satanic wizards. And the Warren's have to save a group of survivors while staying alive themselves. Fuckin ed Warren mowing down demons with a mini gun instead of needing to be saved by his wife again.

In the Heights - 9/10

jumbled thoughts incoming

The opening 20 min didnt hook me which for a musical is typically a red flag. the "i want song" however did. bottom of the 2nd act contains a number that can stand itself up against the greatest numbers ever sang. cinematography is outstanding. the choreography is as good as it gets. theres somr conflict and the bottom of the 2nd act thats very forced but the resolution is so completely worth it that it doesnt matter. laugh. smile. cry. this musical hits on all cylinders. as far as the music it steps on Hamilton's toes often and perhaps deliberately or perhaps LMM only has so many songs in him before he hit repeat but it doesnt matter because it all does a wonderful job guiding the audience along so that we arrive at a wonderful climax.

also being back in a theater was wonderful.

It's been a bit of a Harrison Ford day.

Witness 6.5/10
Frantic 6/10

Not his best films.

Presumed Innocent 7/10

A solid Harrison Ford film. He plays a deputy prosecutor who is accused of killing one of his colleagues, whom he had once had an affair with.

The film gets a bit of extra class with the inclusion of Raul Julia (taken too soon) as Ford's defence lawyer.

The Green Inferno - Shite, just right off the bad the way everyone talks is so pointed and jagged, all the exposition is obvious and risible, the comic relief daft. Some "social justice" college students decide on a whim that theyre going to fly to the Amazon and stop some company from bulldozing a village, it goes wrong and they get captured by cannibals. Sposto just be a cheap horror movie I guess, I just don't understand why these things get made

Sneakers 7/10

The cast of this film is substantial: Robert Redford, Sidney Poitier, Mary McDonnell, Ben Kingsley, David Strathairn, Dan Aykroyd, and River Phoenix; hell, even James Earl Jones makes a cameo.

I did find my attention began to wander by the time we were into the final act, but I think that was due to me coming down from a sugar high.

It is also a techie film from 30 years ago, but it doesn't seem particularly dated, probably because of the snappy script and the quality cast.

A Quiet Place 2: 7/10

Felt a little “been there done that”. The opening scene showing d day was cool. And the movie itself was good. But it felt like it was played safe as far as expanding the world and making the sequel bigger in scale. The ending also felt like it came abruptly. Nonetheless a good time at the theater.

a quite interesting film. it was different than what I thought it was gonna be going in.

Margot Robbie shined as the beautiful Sharon Tate.

In the Heights - 7.5/10

First half of the movie was kind of "meh", then the second half was "alright"... didn't know this was based on a stage musical... thought I was going to see a movie that was made to be a musical not a musical that was made to be a movie....

Da 5 Bloods - 4/5

Slightly predictable. But it was a better "war" movie for Spike Lee than Miracle at St. Anna.

Deep Cover 7/10

Laurence Fishburne brings class to an otherwise dated early 90s undercover cop film, filled with iffy dialogue, sketchy acting, and an out of place Jeff Goldbum. Saying all that, I quite enjoyed it, mostly because of Fishburne's performance.

The VVitch-6/10

Very moody and grim. And while interesting, I didn’t feel the story went anywhere or told any story worth the time. It wasn’t scary or suspenseful in any way. At least for me.

F9: The Fast Saga - 8/10

Was pretty mindless entertainment.... I like how these movies have just totally forgone any sort of logic/physics by this point. I also liked how they poked fun at themselves a bit in this one talking about how they seem to be invincible.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It - 2 1/2 stars out of 4.

If this is the last in this series. the cinematic adventures of the Warrens ends in a 'meh' as opposed to a bang. I was hoping it'd be the scariest but what it lacks in horror it makes up with the chemistry between the two leads. The case isn't particularly intriguing and it keeps dipping into the familiar wells. It didn't grab me but they tried.

The Tomorrow War. Saw critics were murdering this movie but then a local facebook group was filled with nothing but people praising it so I gave it a shot.

It wasn't as bad as the critics said, but it wasn't as good as the local nerds said either. It was OK. Pretty interesting plot, but it seems like it's 2 separate stories (maybe even what started off as a movie and a sequel) shoehorned into 2.5 hrs. It doesn't really give either storyline time to fully develop and somehow makes what is a long movie feel rushed. Action and special effects and all that are very good. Liked the design of the bad guyz. Did seem like the big star of the movie was phoning it in a bit though; I've seen way better out of him in other movies.

Over all I'd say maybe a 5.5/10. Not a bad movie, but not something to go out of your way to watch. If you're bored and it's on then there are far worse options and it's worth a watch. Or if you just want some standard scifi action or something.

Black Widow - 3 and 1/4 stars out of 4.

SPOILER: show
I don't know if it was just MCU deprivation but this was one hell of a solid action movie and it's a shame we didn't get something like it sooner. There's a lot to uncover from Natasha's spy days and one outing just can't cover it all but they do their damndest here. Yelena is probably the best character and she gets the most laughs. I can see why they were secretive about who is behind the helmet in regards to Taskmaster but it's a tad underwhelming. The main baddie doesn't really get enough time and it's kind of the weakest element of the whole thing. Overall though you get Natasha being Natasha and doing all of her cool Black Widow stuff and some great interaction between the main characters. It's kind of hard to screw up an action film.

No mid-credits scene but there is a post-credits one that looks to be opening the doors on other Disney+ productions.
Yeah, I recommend it.

I enjoyed it too; Florence Pugh was the stand-out in the film, but everyone acquitted themselves well, except for perhaps Ray Winstone's dodgy Russian accent.

Black Widow-8/10

Really enjoyed it. David Harbour add the dumb, lovable washed up hero was maybe the show stealer for me. Florence Pugh was a great addition. Can’t wait to see what’s next for her character. It was short, funny, packed with shroom sequences and moved at breakneck speed without losing that marvel charm of character interaction. Highly recommend.

I think itísa combo of deprivation but also just needing that 2 hour escape where your sit back and enjoy the ride of what youíre watching on screen. If you havenít been to a theater since the pandemic this movie is about as perfect as it gets to break yourself back in for the theater experience.

Luca - 3 stars out of 4.

It's cute and all with an easy to follow story but it just feels like a combination of a bunch of these kinds of movies. There's also not a lot of humor. I mean, the most I got a good laugh was when some poor kid gets his face plastered with a ball. It's still watchable but I can't call it one of Pixar's best.
