I am originally from Knoxville which would be a great host city. Neyland Stadium seats over 100,000 and is beautiful. Thompson Bowling can seat over 20,000 for NXT, Raw and Smackdown. Knox County Civic Coliseum (my first wrestling card) seats up to 6,000 and is a wonderful place to watch wrestling would be great for HOF or ROH/NJPW. GREAT food, and it would be huge for the economy there.

Nah, I'm not from Tennessee. I just think the aesthetic and the wrestling history would add a cool vibe to the show. They probably won't do anything with the history themselves.

I would be so fucking stoked if Bryan and Ziggler left the WWE and signed Sinclair/New Japan contracts. Between the two entities, there's no reason they can't give these guys options comparable to WWE. And there's also the artistic catharsis.

His mask match loss to Atlantis on March 17, 2000, is generally considered one of the greatest matches in Lucha Libre history ...

Prior to the loss to Atlantis, he had retained his mask in at least 58 consecutive matches, which has to be among the most wins of that type in Lucha Libre history.

It was a strong night overall for cable TV viewership as, despite the big jump from last week, the show failed to crack the top 10 in overall viewership, finishing at number 11. SmackDown did top the 18-49 demo, as it usually does, with a 0.77 rating. Miz and Mrs., which follows SmackDown on the USA Network, did 1.235 million viewers overall and posted a 0.50 rating in the 18-49 demo, tied for third place.

They later learned from witnesses that that account they were told wasn't what really happened.

Later that evening, Lawler was called by a Deputy Sheriff and told, "Mister Lawler, I'm sorry, but your son Brian has hung himself in the jail." In regard to a rumor that has been making the rounds, there was no version of this week's Raw script that featured any appearances by Brock Lesnar. He was never, actually scheduled for Raw (despite the fact that the company advertised him all the way to the night before the show) and flew home Sunday right after the PPV on a private plane.

One story that has floated online is that the Triple H promo on Raw replaced a Paul Heyman/Brock Lesnar promo, but based on WWE Creative sources, that was never the case. As one source told us, if they needed a Brock-related promo inside the ring, they could have simply had Paul Heyman (who was indeed at Raw) cut the promo in front of the live crowd. Instead, they taped the Heyman-Kurt Angle vignette.

The only major change to the Raw script that we have heard of was Dolph Ziggler wrestling Dean Ambrose when the original idea was for Drew McIntyre to face Ambrose. Beyond that, the script remained the same most of the day and the HHH promo was always in there, designed to be a "local promo" to push the Super Show-Down Australia event.

McMahon also elaborated on Triple H's influence in NXT, and how that further sparked the Revolution.

"It was a lot of what [Triple H] started to do at NXT, which NXT – for those of you who don't know – started off as our develpmental show, and is now really evolved into a third global touring brand in and of itself and is one of the most watched programs on the WWE Network," said Stephanie. "But my husband started to recruit elite athletes, men and women, and he started training the women same as the men and giving them the same opportunities, because – like anything else – repetitions is how you are gonna get better.

"So at our live events that we do, our local live events, which is where, non-televised, our talent often learn the skills. That's where they hone the craft, the live audience gives a reaction, and that's how you learn what's working, what's not working, and worse, what they don't care about... so he started giving them those opportunities, and them our audience responded in kind. Because these women were so awesome, and they started chanting, 'this is wrestling' and 'women's wrestling'."

Missing from the card is an undercard match featuring Bruiser Brody defeating Chan Chung.

WWN has announced the cards for their next weekend of EVOLVE shows on September 7th in Joppa, Maryland and September 8th in Queens, New York. Below are the cards for each night:
*EVOLVE 112: Joey Janela vs. Austin Theory for the WWN title, Chris Dickinson vs. AR Fox, Josh Briggs vs. Jon Davis, Jaka vs. Trey Miguel
*EVOLVE 113: Shane Strickland vs. Tracy Williams for the EVOLVE title, Chris Dickinson & Jaka vs. The Skulk for the tag titles, AR Fox vs. Austin Theory, Joey Janela vs. Trey Miguel in a non-title match, Darby Allin vs. Josh Briggs

While not yet announced, with the 5 p.m. Pacific (8 p.m. Eastern) start time, the NJPW Long Beach show, like the previous New Japan shows in California, will air live on AXS. We’ve been told that is scheduled right now but no official announcement has been made.

Week four of World of Sport on ITV did 545,000 viewers, which was up from last week, but still bad. It had a new lead-in as instead of the game show “The Chase,” they put in the movie “Scorpion King” starring Dwayne Johnson. ITV rarely runs Saturday afternoon movies but it appears they were using a Johnson movie to help the lead-in. Scorpion King from 3:15 to 5 p.m. did 609,000 viewers.

On his podcast this week, Jim Ross said that he thinks Josh Barnett will be unavailable for NJPW’s Fighting Spirit Unleashed show in Long Beach, California on September 30. Ross said one of Barnett’s fighters has a fight in Japan against Bob Sapp for Rizin and he’s not sure if Barnett will be back in time to call the show with him on AXS. Ross said it’s still being worked on, but they have a pretty good plan in place.

Michael Elgin, The Briscoes, Flip Gordon, David Finlay, Dark Magic, Okumura, and El Mesias will be the international team for CMLL’s Gran Prix on October 5.

PROGRESS announced that Jimmy Havoc and Will Ospreay will face off in a two-out-of-three falls, no DQ match at their show at the Electric Ballroom in Camden on Monday. Paul Robinson will be the referee. If Havoc wins, he advances to the main event of PROGRESS’ show at SSE Wembley on September 30. Tyler Bate vs. Mark Haskins is also set for Monday’s show, with the winner getting a spot in the Wembley Arena main event for WALTER's PROGRESS Championship.

But two different promoters in recent weeks when asking me about them said essentially that when it comes to going to WWE, that the American wrestlers are professional about it and work with them as best they can to make things right and tip them off, but that this is more mysterious. It is not clear they are going for sure, but once they became evasive on date and questions, the belief is it must be the case because if they were going to New Japan, and really New Japan is overloaded with talent at this point so that wouldn’t be likely, they’d have plenty of dates to work around the schedule. Impact and Lucha Underground don’t run full enough schedules to where they wouldn’t take any dates. Then they both worked in Mexico on 8/19 and we’re told Penta wasn’t outwardly showing signs of any back injury. Granted, things heal and all that. But the nature of missing the shows here combined with everything has people very skeptical right now. The question also regards Lucha Underground, as they would be under contract there until six months after the conclusion of the current television season

The story behind it is sketchy, because Park (Adolfo Tapia) came to Arena Mexico on 5/25, immediately started up a feud with Rush that had been hot in several independent matches around Mexico in recent years ...

Still, Park and Rush continually challenged each other to a hair vs. mask match whenever Park worked at Arena Mexico, which were five shows since late May, including a double count out in a heated singles match on 6/22.

The first sign was when Anniversary tickets went on sale a few weeks ago and they were less expensive than expected. The appearance is that CMLL is not interested in Rush losing his hair, which would be the way out of this match even if the whole thing started with Park being willing. Park has pushed that he is willing to lose the mask, but whether the payday wasn’t good enough, or more likely, his career being revitalized over the last three months at a level none expected made him feel, and correctly so, that the time wasn’t right.

Park is now in great demand all over Mexico, the hottest he has been in years and perhaps drawing the best he has in a long career. Park is scheduled to be one of the key players going forward with MLW, and he needs the mask to be at that level. There is also talk of interest from other U.S. promotions, notably Impact.

Rock vs Roman possibly at WM35:

Roman gets booed out of the building if he pins Rock, Roman shouldn't lose to part-timers at WM and The Rock really shouldn't return to lose. A Rock/HHH or Rock/someone like Miz program makes more sense to me.

If that does happen, Reigns ends up tying Hogan's Mania main events in a row record.

He breaks it if you count Bret-Yokozuna and not Hogan-Yokozuna as the real main event match of Mania IX.

Slik I see your point on Roman/Rock however I think that match would be so mega huge for WWE/Roman that they cannot pass it up if they can get it. I can see Roman/Rock having a really fun match and likely Roman would be selling the whole match which would please the Wrestlemania audience. So what if they lose their shit when Roman hits the spear 1...2.....3 WWE already has their money and won't be coming back to NYC for WM for probably 10 years.

True.

And a grumpy crowd reaction has not deterred WWE yet, because as I myself am a perfect example, many will likely attend another WM regardless or continue to watch.

Other than gate potential and additional network buys, Rock v Reigns is a dead end. Like Slik said, Rock shouldn't come back to lose, Reigns shouldn't lose, but winning doesn't really do anything for him either.

If they can draw Rock out for something like a 4 or 5 match run then maybe it'd be beneficial.

From a pure entertainment standpoint I'm all for it tho.

  2. AJ Styles

  10. The Miz
For some reference, PWI puts a lot of weight on the WWE title as the top belt and WWE as the top promotion for the basis of their lists. Lesnar being #4 is entirely due to the length of his Universal reign and the Universal belt being #2 or #3 in overall status.

Indies Roundup:
NJPW announced that All In will be available on-demand for New Japan World subscribers “shortly after the live broadcast.” Further details on when the show will be uploaded haven’t been revealed.

Episode six of “All Us” is largely focused on building to Christopher Daniels vs. Stephen Amell at All In.

Terry Funk told Sports Illustrated that a problem with his abdominal hernia is preventing him from traveling to Starrcast and All In. Funk said about the success of All In: “I think it’s wonderful that Cody is having success, and I was really looking forward to seeing him. Cody and Dusty are similar in so many ways, but they’re different also. I’ve never met anyone like Dusty. He was loved by everyone and everybody. He was a phenomenal in-ring performer who understood the business, and that was passed on to Cody."

FreeSports in the United Kingdom revealed that Revolution Pro Wrestling is going to start airing on the channel in September. RevPro has TV tapings taking place at York Hall in London on September 5 and 6, and they'll air on FreeSports later in the month. 5 Star Wrestling was formerly on FreeSports before the promotion shut down.

  • According to Post Wrestling's John Pollock, WWE recently changed their plans for the Becky-Charlotte storyline due to poor reception. Instead of being a typical face-heel feud, both are going to be presented more evenly in terms of motivates and reasons. Same for Becky's heel turn being dropped in favor of being more anti-hero or Austin-like.

Rock/Hogan, Rock/Cena, Rock/Cena II.

Roman is going to get booed out of the building anyway. Reigns loses to part-timers anyway (three times in the past SummerSlam-to-SummerSlam year alone). He also lost to Bobby Lashley.

If Rock comes back, he is headlining the PPV, because nothing will be able to follow it. Why would you put Triple H or The Miz in another WrestleMania main event? Although Triple H would probably be down for it, and I think that was the plan a few years ago. Just let Reigns beat the advertised Mania main event record and never mention the fact that he's lost 2 or 3 of those 5.
