Meltzer did mention recently WWE is considering Brock/Roman as a possible WM backup if Rock isn't available, despite marketing this as the final match between them

Roman/Brock is so weird.... they have literally booked themselves into a corner.....

They have no credible challengers for Roman EXCEPT for Brock, but then they can only do it so often without him winning... and if he was gonna take the title off Roman he probably should have done it by now....

But then even though Brock is the only legit contender, it will feel like another "waste" to give Brock the rub of being the one to beat Roman.... but then there is no one else... so I don't even know...

I feel like they've teased Austin Theory cashing in too much for him to do it tonight...seems like they usually want it be a big surprise...but then again this is the HHH era and maybe old rules don't apply...

I forgot about that. Brock def doesn't need to be the one to get the rub from ending the 2 year title reign. Drew doesn't need it anymore, Lashley either. I don't know who you give it to other than Cody when he comes back really. Riddle was an outside possibility at one point but it seems they are moving away from that. No one is in the right spot for it.

Hmmm. What if Roman and Brock knock each other out and Austin cashes in before the resolution of the last man standing match? Would that make it a triple threat with standard rules at that point? They could use that to split the titles maybe.

It doesn’t matter if Brock is the one to beat Roman. It makes sense in the context of the story. Brock is a legend, a first ballot Hall of Famer, active force and top babyface. You’re supposed to want to see him succeed. Most WWE fans probably do. It wouldn’t be a disaster like so many internet fans would claim if the babyface does go home having achieved his mission.

I don’t think they go that way. I think they’re going with this Roman thing at least until their next stadium show in about a month’s time. But Brock winning would not be one of the worst booking decisions of all-time or anything. Hell, it wouldn’t be the worst one from this month.

Heyman’s not going to make Brock look shit. But he can take a whole chunk of the match and look like a world-beater without actually winning. Brock can even slap the match for a phantom three count at some point.

If they can’t get Jake Paul for a one-off appearance to help his brother and promote whatever he has next, I can see someone else being Paul’s equalizer. Maybe Bron Breakker? I think that would count for a surprise/a little something extra for the show.

Combine that with an Edge return and you’ve got a fine show.

I don't know why we're talking about spliting the titles. Unifying them was the best thing they've done. Instead they should elevate the intercontinental and Us titles. Then you have something important to fight over on each brand, while still having your definitive champion.

Agreed, split titles only work when there is a strict brand split. When people can just go to whatever show whenever, there is no reason for it.

On the flip side, 1 Champion means they should be on both shows. If Roman is a part timer now, they either need to get the titles on somebody who at least appears a lot more often, or split them so at least one show can build to a World Championship to main event the PPVs.
