I actually got on board with the Punk promo. I’ve always had a personal affinity towards Punk, like a “kindred spirit” type thing. I too was born with the cord wrapped around my neck! Strange. Also, I got humiliated in MMA.
Then I remembered he’s going against Mox and I’m like “meh”. |

The only good thing from this week was Shida's ass and Ospreay's match. Hate it when he talks tho, bruv |

Thoughts from my morning watch:
-I did love the Moxley promo. Was smart to have him heel it up a bit given it's Chicago and all but I liked the passion in this one. -Knew exactly where they were going with the open contract, BUT I probably would've had a backstage segment where Mox hands the contract to Jerry Lynn or Chris Daniels or something and then Ace Steel takes it from them. Having him leave it in the ring is kinda dumb because surely everyone on the roster should've started sprinting out to the ring for a free title match. -Danielson vs. Hager was pretty good. This is two solid Dynamite matches in a row for Hager but I'd say that has a lot more to do with his opponents (Claudio and now Bryan) than him. Those guys can work a good match with anyone. -Really enjoying the Daniel Garcia stuff with him being conflicted on what side to go with/seemingly wanting to stay loyal to Jericho but only if he can stop being a cheating asshole. Hope he wins the Pure title in Buffalo next week. -W. Morrissey gets a big 'ol meh from me. From the little I've seen of his Impact run it seemed like he'd done well for himself and carved himself out a nice little niche there but that doesn't mean I want to see him in AEW. -Curious to see what Stokely has cooking as he's recruited Ethan Page, Lee Moriarty, The Gunn Club, and now Morrissey. I mean you can see the foundations of a stable there since you've got an underutilized guy who can talk, a young flashy guy, a tag team, and now a big heater/hoss. -Women's tag was a little sloppy in parts, felt like they couldn't get their timing right. I really want Shida to get a title run in front of fans but I'm still kinda used to that WWE booking where her winning last night means she's not winning Sunday. I imagine Storm will get the title but who knows. -Sabian/PAC could be a sleeper hit, I'm glad to see Kip back and PAC always brings the goods. Shame it's on the pre-show but they tend to even give their pre-show matches a solid amount of time. -Punk's win/loss record being removed off of his chevron was a nice subtle touch as it planted some seeds of doubt in him being done -Wasn't into Punk's sappy promo but didn't mind it when I saw the point of it after Ace Steel came out and verbally bitch slapped him -Still feel like they could've just not done last week's match and just had the unification match at the PPV. That said if Punk actually does turn heel on Sunday (well, in theory, he'll cheat and Chicago will still cheer) I'll be OK with it. I need Punk heel at this point. -Sit down interview was simple and effective. Jungle Boy isn't the best promo, but he comes across as real. Christian of course is always a wizard on the mic. I'm excited for that match. -FTR/Wardlow was a nice little squash. Not really big into Lethal but excited to see MCMG and FTR mix it up plus Wardlow wrecking shit. -Miro/Sting/Darby/HOB has clearly been on the cards for a while. Again, I like everyone involved so it'll be fun. But it is admittedly weird to have two other trios matches on a show featuring a Trios Title tourney final. -Really enjoyed the Fatal Four Way, everyone had a chance to flash and shine. I agree with Yuta getting the win given he holds a title that, hopefully, will be transferred to Garcia next week. -Always a bunch of speculation on the Joker for matches like this, I'll keep my expectations tapered. I half expect OC to either lazily show up as a Joker or just get added to the match after his trios team loses on Friday, feels like someone they won't leave off the card. -If the Joker is someone not in AEW I'd guess Dragon Lee who has a score to settle with Andrade and Rush. -Trios main event was fantastic. Everyone was bringing it in there, glad Aussie Open have been getting a chance to shine as well, have enjoyed what I've seen with them in NJPW and Rev Pro. -The trolling on Omega's entrance was perfect. Ospreay being desperate to beat Omega ripping off the protective shirt was a nice touch, as was the end when he was sat on the ramp looking at Omega/Bucks. -We're definitely getting Omega/Ospreay one on one in the near future. Whether it be Grand Slam, Full Gear, or Wrestle Kingdom. |

Middle of the road Dynamite IMO, which has been the case more often than not the last few months. I still don't ever find Dynamite outright bad, and never come away feeling like I've wasted time by watching it. But the Dynamites that blow my nips off are few and far between at this point.

Dunno if MJF is coming back on Sunday or not, feel like him being the Joker would be really underwhelming. Grand Slam is still the latest I could see it happening.
If they're not willing to bring him back for a friggin New York stadium show, that's when I'll start to believe he's actually not coming back. |

Maybe I was just in my cups last evening but I don’t understand the Punk-Mox booking at all
Why did they wrestle last week and take away not only the champ v champ angle, but also the allure of seeing your top 2 baby faces fight for the first time |

What Supreme said. It makes zero sense. I can only see it being used as a small wrinkle in the story. In other words, an fn waste.
Vito - I don't know how you can view this as anything but the worst product that AEW has put out since its inception. |

Never said it wasn't. I think it pretty clearly is. But that doesn't mean I think it's total dogshit either. There's usually a couple of matches every week I'm into, and enough going around that interests me despite the booking clearly getting a lot more scatterbrained.

They set a very high bar for themselves over their first 2.5 years on TV. Not that there weren't lulls during that span (definitely a couple of lulls during the Daily's Place void, especially when NBA moved their schedule around) but they've also had multiple periods where they felt must-watch every week, especially when they got back on the road last year.
Thing is I never thought it would be sustainable for them to stay red hot all the time, not when you run 52 weeks a year and are booked by a guy whose mind goes a mile a minute and seems to have too much on his plate as is. I think a segment of the fanbase struggles with the come-down. They know how good the programming is capable of being, so it gets all the more frustrating when the booking seems to have gone off the rails the last few months. But I don't agree with people acting like they're watching 2000 Nitro, either. |

The annoying thing to me is, if you had told me the night of DON that this would be the All Out card, I'd have been into it. Plenty of stuff about this card I like, don't doubt at all it'll be a good show.
But the way they got to it was just fairly baffling. Tony needs to lay off the coke. Not entirely. Just (ron the) dial it back to the moderate amount of coke he was doing last summer. |

Why the F did Morrisay debut last night? Its not the worst thing in the world but to me the timing is the most baffling. Those are just the first two things that came to mind not even talking about whatever they're doing with the championship, Wardlow, MJF....... Just no consistency to anything. You can't make it up by throwing a couple of workers on the card and them having a "good wrestling match" Yeah, its not always gonna be white hot but it should never feel like no one has a clear idea wtf is going on week to week. The fact that "momentum" (whatever your definition of that is) has gone back to WWE after the garbage they've been since AEW hit the scene is just sad. |

WWE probably does not deserve as much recent praise as I or others have been giving it but...
It's just such a swing from where it was. Since H took over we haven't seen any 24/7 or cringe comedy bits, the backstage stuff all of sudden feels organic, the promos and commentary are more improvised and we've heard the words wrestling, wrestler and hospital on tv. We've gotten vignettes treating the mid card titles as part of an important legacy. And there's a genuine focus on more tag teams and new talent getting significant pushes. We know there's a few more people that will return to the company and callups coming in the near future as well. All HHH had to do was stop doing the things Vince did that most fans disliked (hoping the camera cuts are going away soon next...). All Tony Khan had to do was book AEW like he did a year or two ago and instead everything is all over the place. Will ALL OUT be a fun, good ppv? I'm sure it will be. But how we got there is a strange, unorganized path and it doesn't make me feel like there is a strong plan post ALL OUT. |

WWE went from 2-3 minute matches followed by 20 minutes of wacky goofball hijinks to 60 second backstage interviews followed by 20 minutes of wrestling.
AEW went from a show I was crazy about because it was only two hours a week and 4 ppvs a year to a company with a roster the same size as WWE, three hours a week and mutiple YouTube shows (I still never watch those) and now tv specials and ROH as well. Part of the appeal of AEW was 'less is more' as a time commitment as a viewer. Now there's all this time and talent and TK doesn't seem to have a game plan. |

Guessing they debuted Morrisey as Tony had heralded the show as a “must see” and the fans have been conditioned to believe that means someone debuts.

Do I think WWE will go off the rails again at some point, absolutely. Towards the end of HHH's NXT Black & Gold reign I was sick of seeing Gargano, Ciampa, Adam Cole and the 24,000 kickouts each match at a Takeover.
But WWE is likely to feel fresh through (at least) WrestleMania season with callups and returns and the Rumble/WM itself. |

I put some of that down to the top of NXT being filled out with guys they couldn’t shift to the main roster. NXT felt fresh a lot of the time because your top guys would move on and somebody else would fill the top of the card.

Vince and the main roster killed a lot of what made NXT good by burying pretty much every callup after Kevin Owens. Once the track record was in place that nobody built up to matter in NXT would go on to do much of anything on the main roster, it made the NXT run irrelevant, no matter if it was good or not. It just didn't matter.

Lol so some big, fat PHILBAD mark tried to get a dig in on Punk and Punk burned him. Now The Brotherhood of Big, Fat PHILBAD Marks is mad because they don’t like when their shit is called out.
I hope he went home and wrote a scathing letter to Tony Khan about how his right to derp without repercussions was infringed on and he may never have his mom buy a ticket again. |

I can see it now.
Punk and Moxley bloody and tear each other up for 20 minutes. Then Ace Steel comes out and reveals it was never a match. The contract he gave Punk to sign was, like Punk himself, a fake. He gave the real one to his other trainee, the one who was really knocked down and really had to get back up and fight. BOOM BOOM, COLT CABANA BOOM BOOM, COLT CABANA BOOM BOOM, COLT CABANA IT'S COLT CA-BA-NA Colt picks off a weakened Moxley to shockingly win the AEW Championship. Mox and Punk forge a temporary alliance to seek revenge. Colt appeals to the Dark Order for help but Hangman convinces them to stay neutral. So it seems Colt is all alone. But fortunately, wrestling has more than one royal family... SPOILER: show |
