Rate the Game: Week 104
Good morning, y'all. Technical difficulties and something I stumbled across earlier delayed this a bit but we're still good! It's the first Rate the Game of April and it's the 104th edition, making it a solid two years I've been doing this. Is this what my life has come to? Finishing sentences with a preposition? How unseemly. Anyways, let's take a gander at how last week's Mirror's Edge fared. I liked it a lot as my glorious imagery demonstrated but it's not up to me. How are things looking, Mr. Leaderboard?
Once again I'm blessed with not having to do a bunch of math but at the same time we've got ourselves another 4.0 to add to the party as Mirror's Edge joins the 29th spot with all of the craziness going on up there. Seems fair. We'll have to wait and see what it ultimately ends up with once I do the whole tie-breaking thing. Something to worry about for another time. Right now we've got another game to tackle and tackle it we shall! Show us your wares, bowl! That's a good bowl. So it looks like we're rocking the PlayStation 3 this time around as we take a gander at the karma-driven action game from Sucker Punch, Infamous! Does it live up to its name? How does Cole McGrath's first entry fare in your eyes? Let's lay it all out on the table as we kick off April with a bang. Or a jolt, I guess. Until next week! No matter what may happen to me, just remember Lzzy Hale gave me the bedroom eyes... ...again. |

Pretty fun, probably deserves a 3.5 but gave it a 4.

Infamous put Sucker Punch on the map even though they had earlier success with the Sly Cooper trilogy.
I'd give them a 4.5 if I could. But I'll stick with a 4. |

I've always wanted to try the Sly Cooper games. I still have my PS 2. I suppose there's nothing stopping me from tracking them down and giving them a whirl.

Very well polished, with fun mechanics both in combat and traversal. |

This is one of the few games on the PS 3 that I did manage to tackle due to one of my friends being in possession of both. The concept is cool and it looks great and it handles well. The karma system, I can take it or leave it. Reminds me too much of Fallout 3 and Silent Hill: Book of Memories, the latter of which I can absolutely live without. It wasn't enough to make me a fan of the franchise or anything but I did play a bit of the one game that has Fetch as the main character. Also, WTF was with Cole being part of Street Fighter X Tekken?
Anyways, it seems like a solid 4 kind of game. |

Oh, you've got to be fucking kidding me with that potential 4.0 average.

I threw in a 3. 3.5 is the score for this game imo.
Had fun with infamous but it had a lot of issues. The sequels were far better. |

On the contrary, I'd say Fetch was a very nice thing.

Somewhat, whereas I found Cole to be super bland and generic. Like the most generic guy ever.

It wasn't derided much though, all 3 main games score within 5 points of each other on metacritic. Second Son had far superior gameplay to it's predecessors and a much better world but was held down by the same old generic morality system and some people didn't like the main as you said.
We don't talk about that standalone expansion First Light. |
