Power Supply question

So, I'm looking at a new Radeon graphics card. It requires a 300W power supply, so I get that.

My question is this: Since the card requires at least that, am I understanding that all I need is a 300W unit? Or is that not gonna be enough to power the card and everything else?

Arrow

300w is estimated for the whole system, but trust that it is an estimate. Your CPU and other cards may draw more. I'd probably go to a minimum of 650w just in case. A more powerful one will be put under less stress too and should last longer.

Alright, thanks man. I thought I should ask, rather than make a potentially more costly mistake.

I upgraded my old PC with a newer card (512mb PNY Ge-Force at that time) a couple of years ago without doing anything with the power supply that came stock with the PC. It started randomly rebooting on it's own, then it got to where it was doing it roughly every 15 minutes or so. I knew at that point I should have upped the power supply, but being a novice, didn't consider that.

Unhappy

Yeah, I ended up killing my 500w when I put a GeForce 560ti in. There was enough power in the box, but it was 6 years old and it was just enough to finish it off.
