Should I get into the Assassin's Creed series?
So my friend found Assassin's Creed 3 hella cheap and asked if it was a good deal. I realized that I couldn't fairly answer the question seeing as I never played it. I only finished the first game but honestly I wasn't particularly impressed with it. I have the sequel downloaded but still untouched and I'm not sure if I really want to go down that rabbit hole. Is the series worth it? What do you think are some of best reasons I should give the rest of the games a shot?
No matter what may happen to me, just remember Lzzy Hale gave me the bedroom eyes... ...again. |

Sure.
But if you have 2, start with that. It really kicks into gear there. The thing is, there's good titles. And bad ones. Just gotta go by reviews or word of mouth. |

I played 1 on release. It was very dull. Its basically a 20 hour tech demo. Big world but no density of content. It was maybe 3 years ago that i played the series. Started with 2 and played them all.
Very solid games throughout. Even the ones people shit on for the price they go for now its totally worth it. They become less about historical accuracy as time goes though so if thats a draw be aware. |

The thing about the first entry is that it left such little impression on me. I know did stuff but I couldn't tell you specifically what the missions entailed. It's not like other games I've played where I can recall the whole narrative from beginning to end. The concept was neat if a little farfetched but all the aspects didn't really come together in a rewarding or engaging way. I've often found it hard to believe it ended up becoming a huge AAA franchise but it struck a chord I guess. |

The first game had so much hype, but yeah, ended up being a dullish tech demo in the end. But it was a bad ass tech demo and I'm glad it got picked up because I love me some assassins creed. Part 2 is where it found it's legs though.

I'd say yes at least in regards to AC II and Brotherhood for the pre-current gen games in the series.
Only played AC, Brotherhood, and Revelations but had a great time despite also feeling fatigued from the series gameplay by Revelations. Never felt the urge to play any other games in the series either due not liking stuff about certain games or lost interest in Ubisoft's style of open world games these days. |

Well, I caved and started up the sequel. Just did the escape at the beginning and had to pause because of prior commitments. I'm grateful for that recap of what's happening and already I like Rebecca. About how long is the game?

Not really since the only other notable thing besides getting to play in historical settings was the Desmond storyline arc that Ubisoft botched.
In terms of gameplay, all the games till Origins follow a similar gameplay routine. Black Flag did mix in some naval stuff but only in a limited sense and Rouge reused the concept. Also Unity is when Ubisoft really started to go overboard with the amount of side quests for series games. |

Loved Rogue. Picked that over Unity.
Good decision. |

I'm not a fan of Rogue because I can't stand the naval stuff as popular as it is. Unity was inoffensive, but I really enjoyed Syndicate.

3 was spotty. Hated the Connor character and some of the historical stuff.
But making a Forrest of strung up Redcoats and the homestead was fun. And that was when multiplayer was introduced? 50/50 on that. |

Yeah, adding multiplayer to a franchise not known for or doesn't need multiplayer? Not a fan of that. It was probably the only really big strike I had against the Tomb Raider reboot. It certainly wasn't the worst multiplayer I've experienced but definitely among the most unnecessary.

They can be underwhelming at times, but I’ve mostly enjoyed the series. Ezio was a fine Assasino.

Finally sat my ass down to pick up where I left off on the sequel and completed the 1st sequence. I hope they balance out the types of quests I need to do. It's not every game where you get to witness a public hanging. I'm intrigued enough to where I want to know where it's going.

Really want to love this game but man these controls for climbing do get frustrating.

I'm eyeing up the new game, Valhalla, though I've never been into the series. The only other game I've ever played was Syndicate, which I didn't mind; I liked the Victorian setting.

For me, the last two were great. Overwhelmingly (and honestly, needlessly) LARGE but super fun. Lots of ppl are tired of the "Ubisoft formula" of just putting a ton of shit on a map for you to do, but it's alright for me.
Will definitely be getting Valhalla. They've simplified the climbing controls, and I believe Valhalla brings back blending into crowds. |

I ordered Valhalla w/season pass as my first PS5 game. Stoked af.
I have played damn near every AC game (didn't play the sidescrollers, missed out on rogue but will play it at some point, and the one on PS Vita) and I love all of them. Like drave said, ppl bitch about the ubisoft formula but I love it. It's exactly what I want from my games: Sprawling worlds with tons of things to do and extend my play time. They are my favorite game company by far nowadays. |

Yes. They are fun games, really creative too. I enjoyed 2 and 3 which is all I played. Nothing classic or industry changing, but fun AF.

Yup. Same with Far Cry. You know exactly what you are getting and that's fine because it will be fun and there will be a lot of it. Don't need to be groundbreaking when you have a formula that works.

Valhalla is fine if you like bugs and the fact you have to eat or sleep (in your own settlement's bed) to heal... you start out with one slot for food. There's no skill to put points in for healing. I'm not usually someone to bitch but it's AC good god. You're some bitch in the present time living through the past that has to deal with getting 3 shot killed if out of stamina.

This series always seems to take 1 step forward, 2 steps back. It's gorgeous tho...maybe not AC:Odyssey gorgeous but that's Greece > England

Eh, the combat in Odyssey was TOO easy. I'm down for a system like that. Gotta re-learn some combat, but that's fine.

It is def weird graphically. Playing it on PS5 and it clearly has better graphics than Odyssey did but at the same time is def not as pretty because of the setting. Kinda weird tbh.
As of now the gameplay def feels like a step back. I find the combat and AI here way easier than that in odyssey. Enemies more often than not will not simultaneously attack you, and the whole dodge and attack a few times thing is easy af here. The way the stamina system works where it refills on successful blocks/hits/parries means you have basically infinite stamina unless you do something stupid. |
