It’ll be a good first defense for Jericho, Cody won’t put the belt on himself.
I’d have to think Moxley/Jericho will be on the docket once the Kenny program ends. |

Cody makes the most sense. His matches have carried the AEW shows do far. Don't think he'll win but it's the right choice for Jericho's first defense.

Jericho will have another good to great match, and Cody will rightfully lose. Whoever wins between Omega and Moxley will be next. Seems Omega might going thru a phase of not winning big matches. So I can see him losing to Moxley as they continue that thread with him before he eventually dethrones Jericho in their 3rd go around.

Also agree but see why they'd do it so quick seeing as how Cody has carried the company. Gives that little bit of thought that Cody could win. It's really their biggest match though and is something that should be on a WrestleMania level.

VERY happy with this Championship match. Just remember Jericho will defend on TNT in a few weeks as well.

Yep, he has that time limit draw with Darby but he hasn't been pinned/submitted in singles yet.
This needs to be the start of a heated blood feud or something because these guys and Moxley are the only main eventers they have. |

Yeah to be honest I don't even see what great about hangman page he seems kind of run-of-the-mill to me I like the idea of PAC holding it since we know he can be an absolute bastard

You would potentially looking at Omega not getting it until the 4th reign, which seems pretty ridiculous considering. That is also assuming they don't job Omega out a third time to Moxley, because of they do then Mox and Pac should get a title shot before Kenny. |

I think Cody should get a nice long chase until Double or Nothing next year. But I can see that being where Omega takes the belt off Jericho, coming "full circle" but really just starting off where we should have been a year prior.

Don't think PAC gets the World Title, but I think they'll do a secondary belt, because wrestling promotions can't help themselves, and PAC will get that one.

This has gotta be the show that MJF turns on Cody to side with Jericho right? MJF and Jericho sounds like a great combination.
Also surprised no one is talking about how this didn't sell out. |

The shows have been the same crowds buying tickets/airfare. At some point that slows and you need 30k in one area to go to a show in order to sell it out.
Reality was always going to set in. The IWC is very small. |

I think this is where MJF turns. But I don't want to see him align with Jericho. I'd rather he just be his own guy and start another blood feud for Cody.

Don't care when it happens really. It will sooner or later. The more two faced MJF angles we get the more "hated" he becomes.

This. And because they are catering to that audience, I am worried about whether they will be able to get those numbers.

You have to start with the die hard fan base. The money is in the "casual" fan. Its gonna take time to win over that section.

They had to backtrack on this because wins and losses matter and Cody could lose to Sammy Guevara on TNT and Jericho could lose his title defense. AEW basically just spoiled 2 matches lol

A thought on this:
Though not as likely, what if that is a "swerve" they actually decide to take? It's nice and easy to assume they are going to just go for the "bigger draw" of Cody vs. Jericho, but what if, for example, that Sammy is booked to win? What if they are trying to position people to actually be their stars that aren't ex-Bullet Club? I mean, it is nice that they have Cody, The Bucks, Omega, PAC, and Jericho, but they can't hang the "star power" mantle on them forever, or nobody else will ever be... well... stars. It's not as if it's unprecidented anyhow. Hell, there was a LONG period of time when WWE didn't just do the generic, evergreen, canned stuff they put out now, and would sell tours with advertised champions and have radio spots and local commercials with a person who wasn't that champ anymore because that shit was produced weeks ago. If he's worth the investment, I say what better way to have Sammy be introduced as an up-and-comer to a wider world than to have him knock off a EVP on the first night of TV? |

Sammy wins by countout or dq or some mess but its not a pinfall win so it doesnt change anything.
and Jericho isnt losing the title in his first defense on free tv. At best he loses getting himself dq'ed or counted out. |

I can see Guevara going over. He impressed me at the last AEW show he was on, and I liked what I saw from him at Triplemania. I don't know if he can talk, but if his in ring charisma can translate to personality, he could be an up and coming star. I think it'd be fucking amazing to have him go over Cody. Even if it's in a surprise way, like a roll up or something sudden. They could make the guy his very first night and Cody isn't hurt by it.
I have some faith this may happen. Cody could've easily gone over Darby Allen, whom he outsized by a large margin. And while he dominated a lot of the match, Allen hanging in there, and Cody being unable to beat him, made Allen look strong in a draw finish. So maybe Guevara gives Cody his first loss. |

I would really hate if Guevara goes over Cody. He's not ready. But if they are working a story where Cody is going to get involved with someone else... say MJF for whatever reason costs Cody the match. That would make some bit of sense to me. But I really want Jericho vs Cody. I don't see a match that will be a better PPV draw.

#1 Contender shouldn't really be losing to anybody during their challenge build, especially undercard acts. Guevara is fine from what I've seen, but it's a bad move to have him unbuilt and going over Cody (as the first title challenger, on your first TV) just for the shock value. It might raise Sammy's stock a little but it makes your eventual title match look a lot weaker. They made a similar mistake with Page vs Sabian almost going the distance during Page's run and rather than making Sabian a star it just made Page (who hadn't even won a 1v1 yet) look like he had no chance of beating Jericho. Cody should not lose a singles now until Jericho beats him.
Early TV is crucial to establishing the hierarchy of the roster, upsets right out of the gate are going to be less impactful. |

Seriously doubt Cody is losing but could see the match going near the distance and tease a potential draw happening.
Guevara comes up short in the end but now looks like a star who is closer to Cody's level than previously assumed but is missing that final piece to truly be there. |

Cody wins in a squash. Sammy is good but I think they'll go with him making a rookie mistake early and Cody taking advantage.

Also as I've said before I don't see why MJF would screw Cody over. Everyone seems to be expecting that but I've never seen it that way. It needs to be a slow build and Cody losing to Jericho could ignite some tension between the two. As I've said MJF is a great heel and doesn't need the cheap heat of costing Cody something. It can naturally build to MJF having a better showing than Cody and starts to thinking he's above Cody, and is a dick to him like everyone else. If that builds and once they're on TV the Cody snap on MJF will be a hit and then MJF just has to go to work.

Second I point to Hangman Page vs. Kip Sabian going almost 20 minutes. I think every tv show will have one, maybe two matches tops and none will be shorter than 15 minutes so that everyone can look competitive which is a mistake. You can look competitive without taking up the entire show. |

I don't think they'll have as many of those long matches once TV starts. The longer matches made sense on the hype shows to showcase the talent people have seen a lot of.

Agreed, MJF starts his mid/upper heel establishment here, after Jericho vacates the spot and goes back to his own thing
