I now have the bonus option of watching about 3 seasons I haven't seen since I stopped watching before I ever see this one...

I would recommend last season, 1984
If you're a fan of 80's slashers. It's only 9 eps too! |

I've never watched AHS. What should I watch and what should I skip?

It's a anthology series - so each season is it's own thing (occasionally with tiny easter eggs for people who've seen them all).
The seasons I recommend are Season 1 - Murder House Season 2 - Asylum Season 9 - 1984 Those are the strongest seasons IMO |

Might give it a watch. I gave up on AHS during season 3. When I realized that each season I would watch half of the season. Fall behind and never finish it until I bought the season sets.

It's no channel zero, but it's okay I guess.

I've said this already, but I just can't be bothered with AHS, after watching channel zero. AHS has some good stories and characters, but it's rarely scary or even creepy.
CZ is fucking disturbing. |

Did you have a favorite season of CZ?
I really liked The No-End House and Butcher's Block (seasons 2 & 3) |

Every long running anthology series slowly turns into The Twilight Zone over time.

Easily the best premiere in years. It's dark, like Asylum dark.
Seanny I need you to watch. |

I’m watching it now.
I am at least four seasons behind but this new one seems like a departure in style. I want to see some Lovecraft style sea monsters. Give it to me. |

So somehow or another I've never watched AHS. Find myself moving towards it rn though as I need something to satisfy my binging needs. I see it has a ton of seasons and my understanding is that they are all standalone, correct? If that's the case then what are some of the better series? Wanna start with a really good one.

They are essentially standalone series with a tiny bit of crossover that sort of snowballs and eventually there’s full crossover between a few of them.
I stopped after “Hotel” but up til then every season was pretty solid. I still think Coven is underrated and Freakshow was top class. References galore. |

I would say just watch the first season and see how you get on. It’s a good balance of scary and intriguing, if you like Murder House you should love Asylum. Asylum has a slightly more prestigious cast.

Watching ep. 2 of Double Feature.
Culkin and Paulson are good together. Finn Wittrock is always solid but he hasn’t had a part like Dandy. He should do more of that sort of thing. So good. |

This current season is an all-timer so far, 1 ep left of "Ride Tide" before the second half of the season starts.
Tonight was probably Sarah Paulson's best performance ever on this series. Macauley Culkin better come back in the future too, he's great. |

Sarah Paulson is probably the best actor on AHS right now, admittedly.
Feels weird that I hated her for so long... |

i've really been enjoying this season. they're great at writing half of a season, so this double feature thing seems perfect. just hope they can stick the landing on this half. haven't watched last night's ep yet...

I enjoyed the previous season, 1984, as well. Probably the best variant on the opening credits IMO
