Replayed Blood (1997) recently...why can't they make games like this anymore?

Was bored and downloaded Blood from GOG because it was a game I loved back in Junior High. I didnt expect much because there is always nostalgia that clouds your memories of a game and sometimes I played a game I loved as a kid and was like "meh..."

Played through the whole thing in a couple of days.

Had more fun than with any FPS game in the past 10 or so years. First thing I noticed is that there was a lot of work put into creating an atomosphere for this game. It feels unique and the art design is amazing considering the limited hardware limitations they had back then with technology.

Who decided that "we're gonna have better graphics, better controls, larger games...but that atmosphere and gameplay has gotta go". I think once graphics got up to movie level or so and games became mainstream, companies are trying way too hard to make games that are more like a movie than a game. Every call of duty game is basically like a universal studios ride these days.
