I liked it. Mostly was really enjoyable but some parts felt corny 2 me, like when he was talking on the talk show and was all "I'm a mentally ill loner,,," and when all the clown mask guys were cheering and stuff around him at the end
Joaquin Phoenix is amazing and it is really fun to watch him in anything. Love him |

How much of the movie was an original story and how much is "from the comic books"?
Like does he go on the talk show and stuff in the comic books? |

There are references yes. His revelation about where he really comes from is a nod in that the Joker has always been an enigma. The failed comedian bit is straight outta The Killing Joke. And in The Dark Knight Returns, he does go on a tv show posing as a reformed version of himself before, if I recall correctly, gassing the audience.
But like the Nolan films, the movie is its own thing. Takes some nods to the source material but an original take on it. |

What about thinking Thomas Wayne was his dad? Is that "canon"
And also Thomas Wayne's death... don't remember if he was just killed by random "hooligans" or if Joker's "henchmen" had anything to do with it in other versions |

The Waynes are killed for different reasons in each film series. Thomas wasn't hinted at being Joker's dad in any storyline that I know of.
God, Thomas Wayne was suchan asshole in this movie. There's literally one likeable character, and it's a pre teen boy who gets to watch his parents die. Again. |

Hmmm I guess it is ambiguous
I'm basing that on him being in the insane asylum in the next scene... if he was really freed by the clowns somehow, how'd he end up there? I guess he got arrested later? Why cut to that scene immediately? But I guess if I think that, that also calls a bunch of other stuff into question, like if he actually appeared on the talk show, etc. Maybe that stuff happened, but it was being told from his "warped perspective," making him come off as a "hero" Just feel like the "cheering disciples" thing at the end didn't feel consistent with the "realistic" feeling of the rest of the movie, but did feel similar to the other scenes that were in his head, where he's cool and confident and people love him |

Finally got around to seeing it tonight. I liked it....it's super dark, and I like how they tied Joker and Batman down the road somewhere coming to blows. It was a good performance by Phoenix and he definitely deserves an Oscar nod.

Was just a tad off here. Marketing was 120 million (lol wut?) but it clearly paid off (pun intended) as Joker is set to have higher profit margins than infinity war when its all said and done.

It's also taking the top box office spot back after getting bumped last week.
