It's unique, I can't remember it being done before anyway, as well as that it's easy for new fans to pick up on whilst still keeping continuity AND they can go lots of different routes with it.

Eh, it's more sane and safer than boxing. And the men do have a choice.

With that said, still seems a bit odd. If you wanted to order a ppv, would you opt out just because the ppv station also shows MMA? Or would you not rent a movie from a store that also rents out MMA dvds? Just curious. Not trying to be a prick, just curious about the reasoning.

And for the record, this isn't a "I'm against streaming" thing, because hell, I'm broke as hell right now and resort to streaming a lot of stuff. I'm just more interested in the "I want to, but I won't for this reason" argument.

Opus Lands ROH Wrestling Rights
By Marissa Graziadio
Published: September 21, 2011

LOS ANGELES: Opus Distribution has secured the international syndication rights for Ring of Honor Wrestling (ROH), following a deal with Sinclair Broadcast Group.

The 52-episode hour-long series will be introduced to the international marketplace at MIPCOM. ROH will debut on Sinclair’s network of broadcast TV stations in the U.S. this month, making it the only wrestling promotion in the U.S. with a major multi-market presence on broadcast TV.
Joe Koff, the COO of Ring of Honor, said, “ROH wrestling has no language barriers, and we are expecting to see growth internationally. In brokering this deal with Ken DuBow, we’ve accelerated that plan and are glad to have someone so experienced to bring ROH to the rest of the world.”

Ken DuBow, the president of Opus Distribution, commented, “I’m excited to work with Sinclair and Joe Koff to build this franchise in the international marketplace where several countries have already made inquiries regarding syndication. This is exciting programming to add to our lineup, and these types of projects and relationships are integral to the ongoing success of Opus.”

I don't like the sound of that. I was looking forward to being able to watch it unrestricted online, now the UK rights could be sold to some premium satellite/cable channel who could in turn tell RoH to block the video in my country?

--EDIT-- Then again, it doesn't stop me watching Comedy Central or WWE Superstars, so let's hope RoH use shitty region locking in that scenario.

Not quite. Plus, you need someone in decent shape to do it. No offense to Kevin Steen, but him calling someone fat wouldn't have the same effect as say, Chris Masters.

Ring of Honor's Kenny King also a Chippendale

Kenny King is a man unafraid to wear his underwear in public.

He brawls in the wrestling ring wearing spandex tights. And on stage at his other job he wears even less. The 30-year-old Ring of Honor wrestler is also a Chippendale.

The two gigs share something in common.

http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2011/0922/pg2_e_king_200.jpg<cite></cite>

"You have to portray your own character," said King. "You have to portray that confidence and have that swagger. You have to have those larger-than-life characteristics."

It would be easy to poke fun at the buff former University of South Florida and UNLV football player. Of course, then he might powerbomb you through a table. And he had the same reaction when a workout buddy asked him about auditioning for the Chppendales' revue in Las Vegas.

"I'm not into G-strings and hairy chests and dollar bills," he said.

But one night he checked out the show and by the third act he saw a great opportunity to supplement his income, while enjoying the attention of 400 vacationing women every night.

"The women go crazy," he said. "It's every man's dream job."

King (real name Kenny Layne) and Ring of Honor will get a shot at mainstream popularity in the coming months. On Saturday the first episode of its new weekly program airs on 35 Sinclair Broadcasting Group affiliates (http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/looking-for-ring-of-honor-on-sbg-networks/), making it the only wrestling promotion in the U.S. with a major multi-market presence on broadcast TV.

The group has produced major talent, including the uber-popular CM Punk, who name-dropped his former employer on recent episode of WWE's "Monday Night Raw." But the ROH team knows it can't compete with the corporate giant. Instead, it's the latest outfit trying to carve out a niche to bring fans to the television sets.

Its promoters promise to maintain the same type of fast-paced in-ring action -- and lack of cheesy wrestler interviews -- that made the organization an indie sensation. Being on free television will give millions a chance to watch Ring of Honor for the first time.

Now it's up to King and his co-stars to put on a show. It's something he's comfortable doing.

Is this common knowledge or did this just come out

Was pretty good for a first show. Never watched them on HDNet so I can't really compare. The matches were great but only having two and on each end of the show kinda hurt. You had the opener then basically 30 minutes of highlights before the main event. Of course that's fine for the first few shows, you do have to get new viewers up to date. They mostly reviewed Best in the World and briefly went over the Code of Honor. The show def has potential, especially if they can move away from shooting once a month and at least do TNA style bi-weekly or better.

Just watched the show. Was good tv. The Future Shock-Bravados match was fun, not as good as their match at Tag Team Turmoil, but still fun. Didn't really like the Davey promo. I think he sucks as a face but it wouldn't really make any sense to turn him heel right now, even though that's what he's best at. They should've been reviewing Death Before Dishonor IX that just happened instead of Best In The World but since this was taped before DBDIX I get it. The main event was pretty good, not better than any of their other matches though. Loved the announce team. Really a notch down in the camera department from the HD Net shows.

I think the announce team is also fantastic. So much potential. I think the last match really did well to showcase WGTT. KoW knew it was probably their last match and really wanted WGTT to look good. It was also a pretty genius move to put KoW's last match on their show. "Oh hey, those guys who were on that ROH thing, they're in WWE now!" It shows that ROH has good choice in talent.

Also awesome:
FINAL BATTLE 2011 DATE/VENUE CHANGE

Details on a change of date and venue for our last event of 2011.

As all our fans know, ROH had December 17th in the Grand Ballroom at the Manhattan Center booked for Final Battle 2011 for a year now. We put tickets on sale on September 17th to a great response. Just a few days later we were notified by the Manhattan Center that due to an error on their part we are unable to have Final Battle in the Grand Ballroom on December 17th. Working together to find the best solution for our fans, ROH and the Manhattan Center have agreed and are pleased to announce that Final Battle has been moved to Friday, December 23rd, and will now take place in the larger Hammerstein Ballroom. Additionally, all future Ring of Honor events at the Manhattan Center will take place in the more spacious Hammerstein Ballroom.

If you have already purchased tickets please read the following:

All ringside tickets purchased will remain the same & will be honored on the new date. Unfortunately all balcony tickets must be returned to the ROH offices so we can issue a new equivalent ticket for the Hammerstein Ballroom. Tickets can be mailed back to:

Ring of Honor
ATTN: NYC Ticket Return
PO Box 1127
Bristol, PA 19007

Please include your name, address, and daytime phone number so we can issue new tickets for the Hammerstein upon receipt of the Grand Ballroom tickets. We here at Ring of Honor apologize for any inconvenience this date change may cause to our fans.

That Lethal/Generico match had some cool spots, but it really seemed a bit much to me. There were some moves that should have been absolute knockouts, but they were kicking out like their undefeated Wrestlemania streaks were on the line. Even still, the matches were tolerable...but the promos were god awful. I'm going to keep giving this a try, but I think I even prefer TNA as it stands.

Yeah, that's the Dragon Gate influence on indy wrestling right there. Huge moves that don't end matches, and multiple finishes, meaning that pretty much every move in existence is devalued, so for "bigger" matches, they just do more insane "movez." and more finishers.

They need to add more psychology. Hell, given some of there spots, they could probably move away from the stigmata that finishers have to end matches, and have matches end on some of those cool spots. That would definitely make matches more exciting and unpredictable.

Wasn't all Tommaso, Andy was getting his licks in. Tommaso's gonna have to change his finisher if he wants to move up the card though, size would only allow him to hit it on Davey or Roderick if he were in the main event scene. Speaking of Roderick, his promo was hilarious. His character's pretty good finally. The man with no charisma being a captain of the football team type gimmick is hilarious and he does it well. Davey's face shtick still bores me though. Their match was good, probably the best match of the tv show so far. That said it's probably their worst match together and I was noticing the overkill at the end. Not enough to be unentertained though.

It's gonna be a fun match, but storyline-wise Generico really hasn't done anything to get this title shot. He just lost the TV Title to Lethal in his first defense after he beat a guy for it who was leaving the company. And it's painfully obvious Davey's retaining. Still should be a fun match though.

The show feels like a recap show but I guess that works for now to help the new audience catch up.

Both matches were great this week. That "Dominant Male" finisher was sick. He also looks a little like Randy Orton.

Every promotion does what? Puts a graphic on the screen that says whether or not a guy follows the rules? Because nobody does that, and that's not really downplaying it either.

The Code of Honor is different than a set of rules. Also TNA, in their Tale of the Tape always tells shitty things the heel has done. WWE announcers tell what shitty things the heels do without a visual aid.

Meh, it's not really that different. And you know the people that follow it are face and the ones that don't are heels...

There's nothing wrong with a face v. heel dynamic, either. I've just never seen it blatantly put on the screen before each match.

Depends on the situation. They often tease that Davey doesn't want to offer his hand to Roddy, but he does.

Anybody Thrilla
10-14-2011, 09:53 PM
But Davey hates Roddy, so that makes sense. Does the Code of Honor just mean that they shake hands? I thought it had to do with following rules, according to some ROH stuff I watched back from like 2005. Is there even any penalty for not following the code? WHAT'S THE DEAL????

What Would Kevin Do?
10-14-2011, 10:50 PM
They really need to drop the code of honor stuff. It's been relevant like twice.

The first was when ROH first started, and Christopher Daniels was the "rebel" who refused to follow it. He eventually followed it later by shaking Claudio Castignolli's hand... And of course, Claudio then subsequently turned on ROH during the CZW feud.

Besides that, it worked for the blood feud that Homicide and Colt Cabana had, where Homicide finally shook Colt's hand when it was all over with.

Besides that, they shouldn't make a big deal about it. Let it be like touching gloves in MMA. They do it, but don't act like it's a huge deal.

Anybody Thrilla
10-14-2011, 11:14 PM
So it's seriously just shaking hands? Seriously?

Juan
10-14-2011, 11:25 PM
That's all it really is now

Back when it started tho, the "rules" were

You must shake hands before and after every match
No outside interference: no interfering in others' matches or having others interfere on your behalf
No sneak attacks
No harming the officials
Any action resulting in a disqualification violates the Code of Honor

Anybody Thrilla
10-14-2011, 11:27 PM
Yeah, I thought it was something like that. What happened if somebody broke the rules, though? Anything?

Good episode from last night, wasn't the best ANX/Briscoes match ever - but the Briscoes promos are so fucking gold. Edwards really sold well for Elgin, making him look like a legit fucking monster. The only thing I "sort of" disliked was when it was Roddy and Elgin face to face with Edwards and Nigel said "It's two on one, that's not right" and then got in the ring. I don't like them teasing Nigel wrestling again because a) We know he can't, and b) There's no need for Nigel to be there. There are tons of guys in the back who would back up Eddie.

mike adamle

This episode was pretty meh. Briscoes-ANX was alright, not bad, but easily their worst match of this feud. Edwards-Elgin was pretty good. Their match at Defy or Deny was far and away better, but that's not on tv either. Dunno. I feel like in the beginning stages the HD Net show was doing better than this show is

I haven't seen it yet, but they seriously need to get away from the "we're going to film 4 episodes in one night" idea. You're stretching your talent thin by doing that, and only having guys on every couple of weeks .Horrible, horrible idea.

On a bit of a different note, their roster is amazingly weak right now. The tv deal is still "fresh" so they better bring in some new, permanent guys, real quick, and start building them up, giving them characters, etc.

I know they signed TJP, which is a plus. But still, half the guys on their roster are tag team wrestlers right now.

At least the audio didn't suck as bad. What I think is hilarious is ROH fans stating how much better the production looks, yet ECW from 1995 still looks 10x better. It does come off very low budget. I'm sure this message will get erased like the rest of mine do, so I hope you read it lol

It's a legit gripe, don't see why it should be deleted... Just sayin'.

You know what's sad, ROH's most marketable talent right now is a fricking announcer. Nigel has great personality and character. From there, they've got Corino, Jacobs... Generico? I know ROH is about wrestling, but tone down that shit and focus on the actual wrestlers. Build them up. I'm an ROH fan (moreso from the older stuff), and I don't give a shit about the majority of the roster.

Just got around to watching the last 2 weeks of the show. On last weeks they talked about the Roderick Strong invitational at Final Battle, actually pretty interested in who's gonna take that up. The TJ Perkins debut was ok, did what it was supposed to for him, did nothing for Mike Mondo, which I don't think anyone cares about. The main event between Lethal and Bennett was solid, not nearly as good as the Lethal-Generico match from a few weeks back, but probably Bennett's best match in ROH so far. This weeks episode was fun. Strong-O'Reilly was really fun. Tommaso looked like a beast in his match. And the tag match was good, better than the one from a few weeks ago. I've got a few gripes with the show though. They keep talking about the Best In The World show. That was in June, they've even had another iPPV since then, how about talking about that? I don't think I've even heard the show mentioned, and they're at the point where the show was taped after that iPPV, so why aren't they talking about it? Another gripe is that the person that's shown the most personality on this show is Roderick Strong. It's not a good thing when Roderick Strong is showing more personality than anyone else on the roster.

They needed this episode to showcase the feuds coming up in the next PPV. They showed us Davey vs. Eddie, they showed us the Briscoes vs. WGTT, and they showed us that there will be Steen. They're making up for it next week by having the Wolves vs. Strong/Elgin.

I dunno, it was ridiculously obvious that Davey vs. Eddie was gonna happen. I think last episode they said the two contenders were Eddie and Lethal? Lethal couldn't even beat Mike Bennett, who's nowhere near a title contender. I think they've shown something with the Briscoes and WGTT every week, plus they had the thing at the end with both teams. The only real positive was the Steen angle.
