Serenity (Spoilers herein)
Okay, who's seen it?
I was a huge fan of "Firefly," so I've been waiting for this movie for, oh, about three years now. And it totally didn't disappoint. Whedon did a fantastic job of tying up some of the loose ends from the series (the origin of the Reavers), while still leaving several unanswered (why did Book have Alliance ID?). Now, here's where the spoilers come in (continue at your own risk): I absolutely loved the movie. I really truly did. I'll see it several more times. But I was pissed as all hell that Wash died. Alan Tudyk is one of my favorite actors, and Wash was my favorite character on the show. I understand why Joss did it in terms of the story, but his death seriously took me out of the movie for about five minutes. There was a massive battle raging on screen and I was thinking "Holy fuck, why did he do that?" Eventually, the story brought me back in, but I was just devastated by that. There was a thread not long ago about "When was the last time you cried at a movie?" Well, I almost did tonight. ***END SPOILERS*** Like I said before, I like that they kept enough questions to warrant more sequels. I would love to see this show that was cancelled way too soon live on as a cinema franchise. Okay, so discuss. Random thoughts. * Jewel Staite is hot. So is Morena Baccarin. * I always thought Zoe was the least interesting crew member on the series. Well, now she's got herself some serious motivation. * Alan Tudyk is ready to be a comic lead. He's been the goofy sidekick in everything from "A Knight's Tale" to "Dodgeball." The man has phenomenal timing, and his facial expressions rule. * The Operative was a scary-ass dude. Swords in spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace! * I totally saw Mal's "They won't see this coming" plan coming. * REAVERS! I've wanted to see them since the pilot episode (other than the one stowaway guy). Did not disappoint. * I understand why they needed the prologue thingy, but for those of us that have actually watched all 14 episodes, it just made me that much more aware that I wasn't quite watching the story yet. * "Chronicles of Narnia" trailer? Yes, please. |

I saw it last night and I had the same reaction to the Wash thing as you did. I just sat there stunned. Amazing movie and I'm even breaking out the series on DVD and watching it this week.

Can't decide whether to see it or not. I like Whedon's work, but I only ever saw one episode of Firefly, so I'm still not sure whether to wait until it hits DVD so I have a chance to actually watch the full series.

Whedon finally gave us his attonement for the mortal sin that was Alien Resurrection. Seriously, Firefly/Serenity is awesome

This movie definently became one of my favorites right away...
Loved the funny one liners.... Jayne is the greatest character ever...besides Wash.... After the whole Wash incident I was really shocked...all though going into the movie fans knew that with this being the chance to make something that would be remembered that some of the crew had to go. Book was ok to die but I didnt expect Wash to go...very shocked...I was like "Holy Shit".....then later on when you see his tombstone I was really sad.... The greatest thing about this movie right now is that the reviews are so good and so far theyve done good there first weekend in the theater that hopefully they will get picked up for Firefly to happen again...that would kick so much ass.. |

Saw it again last night. Even better on subsequent viewings.
And I have absolutely fallen in love with the first shot onboard the ship, where it starts in the cockpit and (without a single cut that I can see) runs the entire length of the 190-foot ship set down to the engine room, past the quarters, finally ending in the hold with River's line about "taking a ride." Reminds me of the old "walk-and-talk" scenes from "The West Wing." |

FireFly I saw from time to time and I always thought it was a well thought oout series. The movie looks really good too. I might go see it and I might DVD up the series (if that's available)

It is. Came out about a year after the series was canceled. Great stuff.
All 11 episodes (plus three that never aired). Three behind-the-scenes featurettes (two of 'em are pretty short, though) Commentary on several episodes (producers & cast members) An alternate title sequence w/ Joss singing the theme song Deleted scenes Gag reel Alan Tudyk's audition tape Definitely worth a pickup. |

AMAZING film. Despite being a Joss Whedon fan I hadn't managed to see any of Firefly so I went into this thing blind as a bat. I exited the theatre with a new favorite Sci-Fi movie.
Despite not seeing the show (DLed the entire series and will be buying the DVD asap) I completely fell in love with (not love love but you know what I mean) with Wash and his death came so out of the fucking blue that I litteraly gasped out loud and then cried. I cried at least twice after, when Kaylee (fell in love with her too) got shot and I thought Joss might kill her off too and during the funeral sequence. Awesome all around, great dog fighting at the end, just awesome. Furthermore the Wachowski's should be forced to study Wash's death because that's out how you kill off a character (in a space ship) via impalement. Fuck that 3 hour Trinity death shit. This movie still rules, btw. Just thought I'd let everyone know.
The opening Serenity shot goes just about 4:30. Timed it tonight. |

Finally got to see this tonight. Loved it. Fell in love with the show over the summer and couldn't wait for this to come out. Was not disappointed. Crossing my fingers for a sequel.

Its a flop at the US box office, so I wouldn't keep my hopes too high for a sequel. Which is unfortunate, I wanted this movie so desperately to suceed so the storyline can continue.
Episode 3 makes millions and hardly anyone goes to see this. Considering this is leaps and bounds better in quality, its criminal really. |

The show flopped and we got a movie out of it. I seriously think that this franchise (Yes, I'm calling it right now. At least two sequels in the next ten years) is going to acquire a cult status. They may not do "Star Wars" or "Matrix" business at the box office, but they'll tear it up in DVD sales. The web is already littered with Firefly/Serenity fan sites, so the audience is there and it's growing daily.

Very, very good movie though. I half expected Joss to kill off the entire crew. |

To be honest, I think it did better than I thought it would. It topped the box office here in the UK, despite the quite frankly, awful marketting that Universal gave it.

I think Serenity will be one of those movies that will be a success once it reaches DVD. Tons of people these days just wait to movies come out on DVD instead of going to the movies so I bet in a few months we might have word about a sequel in the works....
If not a sequel then Sci Fi channel should definently pick Firefly up again for new episodes... |
