This is definitely the direction I thought Kanye was going, and it's already growing on me huge. I think 808s was a bit of a diversion from what I liked about his music. I just didn't really like it.
Though Lost In The World feels like a descendent of that 808s style, but hits with me. I think he's perfected mixing that style with his strengths. I'm also feeling a stronger and more poignant influx of the African drumming and musical style that he tried to implement in 808s. That's a really cool element. But this album has the right feel. After "I Wonder", I sort of figured he was going to eventually experiment more with some of these sounds. I loved that song deeply. For all of Kanye's supposed shortcomings as a person, he really seems to tap into something real and touching in his music. It's genuine. Music is definitely his catharsis and that's rare these days, unfortunately. Gonna go buy this |

His mind was in a fucked place when 808s came out. Like you could see the direction his music was taking, but his tragedies were sidetracking his progression, weird as that sounds.

Hell of a Life is incredible too, Jeritron. Fucking love the crazy piano sample right after the chorus
So Appalled is actually becoming my favorite tho. Just crazy modern/stripped down hip hop. I'd say the "weakest" track is Gorgeous just in that it isn't that innovative, but it's still a great song with some excellent lyrics |

Yeah, that vid is pretty cool, doesn't have the Rick Ross verse though.

Skimmed the last few tracks cause I started to get tired of it. I dunno. Just don't like it. The way he raps is mad boring to me and his voice is really "grating" to me after a while. Rlly wanted to like it but not going to happen I don't think. "Not my kind of music" I guess.

Bought this album on Friday, and it is all I have been listening to since!
From Dark Fantasy to See Me Now (Bonus Track), the flow of the entire album is just seamless. It's hard for me to pick a favorite track on this album, but I am really feeling So Appalled right now. Overall just a really well put together album. |
