Jim Cornette's comments re: Triple H
Jim Cornette has a feature on his official website, JimCornette.com, where fans can ask him his take on any subject. He admits to being "politically incorrect."

Anyway, when asked who he feels is the most overrated wrestler of the past and today, he feels overrated is not the correct term, instead opting for "overpushed."

Cornette said, "Who has been pushed on a major league basis way more than their talent or attitude should have dictated?"

For the past, he names Ultimate Warrior and Sable, proceeding to go on a rant on both of them. For the present, he says Triple H.

Cornette wrote: "For the present, let's go with Hunter Hearst Helmsley-McMahon. Actually, he's a very good worker and studies the business. His promos are usually as exciting as a coma and last longer than this recession, but he has good matches. Problem is, as hard as he's been crammed down people's throats for the past 10 years, he should have surpassed Hogan, Austin, and Rock, but HHH is what is called in the business 'the guy that works with the guy that draws money.'

He should be in there to have a good match and put the star over. Actually, he should have been fired in 1996 when he s**t on the entire sport with the infamous "curtain call" at MSG, but Vince, the guy with "balls of steel", let HHH piss in his face and not only didn't do anything about it, but let him marry his daughter!

And a sledgehammer? Jesus Christ, I wish he'd hit me in the head with it before he starts talking on TV. HHH will be the top guy in the WWE until he looks like Dick the Bruiser in his final days working an Indiana county fair show, and if THAT'S not overrated, I don't know what is."

So, what do you folks think of Cornette's comments?

I believe the infamous "curtain call" incident is when, after Hall and Nash had their last match before jumping ship to WCW, the Kliq came out to the ring, breaking kayfaybe, and all said "goodbye" to each other. Dunno if there's a video out there though.

Well in 1996 the WWF was still trying to keep kayfabe all the time, so heels and faces hugging in the ring was a big no no. But Cornette's wrong about this. Vince buried Triple H after the incident. Triple H was the only one of the four who got punished. And from what I remember, it was the way Triple H handled his punishment that made everyone in the locker room respect him.

Fun fact: Triple H was originally scheduled to win the 1996 King of the Ring. But after the MSG incident, they took that away from him and instead gave it to another up and coming heel named Steve Austin. And of course, it was that night that Austin dropped the 3:16 promo and changed the course of wrestling forever.

From what I understand, and correct me if I am wrong. Cornette is good at development and small scale stuff. He makes a technical, no frills product. But no one cares about that, they want to see the fire works and be entertained, which is why his promotions fail.

Think Smokey Mountain and OVW during his run in charge were supposedly really good stuff but he likes to run things like a regional territory, well booked but cheap looking.

Even within Louisville, 45 people saw that. I'm not saying the guy doesn't know what he is doing. I think he would be good as part of a booking team. But the problem is he wants to run things, and be the guy. But he isn't.

I think all the interviews i've seen, most guys put him over as knowing what he's doing and being capable of putting together decent logical angles, but yeah he wants to run it and he doesnt have the temperment too or the desire to modernise what hes doing.

Fun fact: Triple H was originally scheduled to win the 1996 King of the Ring. But after the MSG incident, they took that away from him and instead gave it to another up and coming heel named Steve Austin. And of course, it was that night that Austin dropped the 3:16 promo and changed the course of wrestling forever.

I honestly think that Cornette hates HHH so much because he feels HHH is taking the place that's rightfully his. Whether you're talking about wrestling, politics, or fast food, Cornette is one of those people who unwaveringly believes that he's the only one that's right and everyone who disagrees with him is an idiot. HHH is going to run the company soon and I'm sure Cornette believes he should have been put in charge years ago.

The irony of this is that I really think that HHH is Cornette's biggest chance to get what he wants. HHH has a serious respect and admiration for the old NWA style, and he's a lot closer to it than a lot of the guys who have been main event in the past few years. When he's in charge you may very well be seeing a lot more pushes for guys that resemble your Flairs, Andersons, Races, et al than your Cenas, Khalis, or Henrys.
