When wrestling "Jumps The Shark"
Simple enough thread. List and discuss the point when angles, characters, wrestlers, promotions, etc jumped the shark.
Also, discuss ones that never really did jump the shark. |

R-Truth's face persona as soon as he moved to Raw and had Eve dancing to his entrance theme.

I'd say the Mr. McMahon character jumped the shark at the Vince vs. God angle. After that it was all downhill, from hair matches to the cock jokes to Hornswoggle as his illegitimate son. But that was the first really bad angle that started the downward trend.

if you're going to use examples like those with Vince, professional wrestling jumps the shark every week, I know some people like to make themselves feel better about what they're watching/like to think they should be aiming for the same standard as The Wire or something but that's ridiculous, it's usually the most ridiculous, over the top stuff that's the most entertaining (see: Bedpan McMahon, Eric Bischoff's mime selling when Sting showed up in a helicopter, Batista's overselling, R-Truth and Miz this week and so on) and some (well, quite a bit) of it simply falls flat. Now if we're talking about stuff that isn't so much "character based"/somebody doing something daft and talk about things that are just straight up preposterous then fair enough, stuff like Robocop, Rick Steiner vs. Chucky and so on

But that's not really jumping the shark, that's just a shit or poorly booked character. And Vince has been more entertaining than 80% of the roster pretty much since the screw job.

But that IS jumping the shark... That's just like a TV show "jumping the shark" because of bad writing.
And I disagree. 2006-2010 has been pretty lackluster for Vince at best. Yes, there HAVE been bright spots, but for the most part, the bloom was off the rose and he was being booked shitty in just plain bad angles. I didn't enjoy Vince very much during that time. |

well then your batty definition is throwing me off and I move for a mistrial. Jumping The Shark is a single specific moment where something that was questionable before or once respected does something/has a specific moment where they essentially cannot recover from. I demand you change the name of this thread to "When Wrestling "Does Something So Stupid That Even Wrestling Fans Turn Around And Go "Huh, That Was A Bit Stupid""" and then in brackets (The Speech Mark Thread)

Has there been any aliens in wrestling? I'm talking the main promotions, not chikara or anything.

If not they should give someone "The Great Gazoo" as a manager.

I remember cringing like hell at that.
What made it worse for me was that my friend, who can be quite critical of wrestling sometimes, decided to watch Raw with his girlfriend, to actually see what it was all like now compared to when he used to watch it as a kid. The episode they both watched just had to be the one that had the Hornswoggle running though the wall skit in it. The amount of shit I got from him after it was unbelievable. |

Undertaker vs fake undertaker, fake Kane, fake Diesel and fake Razor ramon. Renegade in WCW who was a fake Ultimate Warrior. Anything fake really. Rasslin is serious business and the fakers ruin it big time. Nah sayin?

Wrestling can't jump the shark in the traditional TV sense, since anything can be written off and largely forgotten by the majority, and since there are really no reruns, the forgetting usually happens rather quickly.
The only company I can think of that had a lot of moments that actually lead to it's death was WCW. Finger Poke of Doom, Goldberg cattle prodded, over 50% of the TV roster in the same stable, the stupid re-branding WCW/NWO, the ridiculous wCw stage. |

KIRA's on to something there. When Vince called Shane 'the product of his semen', Shane's visual response was priceless. Vince was great there, though.
I might be biased though, since I attended Backlash 2006. |

That moment that Shane nervously stepped aside as his father dared god to strike him down if he was lying about beating shawn michaels and of course Shane is all too aware of his dads history when it comes to truth chooses to glide away from what would basically be Vince's suicide If you believe in that kinda thing that is. |

Anytime Vince puts himself in Wrestlemania matches.
Anytime Donald Trump turns up. Undertaker dimming the lights / firing pyro lightning. |
