Jim Carrey isn't funny
The Grinch is on ITV, and it's shit.
Another shit Jim Carrey film, is Bruce Almighty. In fact, Jim Carrey is just not funny. The Mask was a good film, back in the day, and Cable Guy was alright, but everything else is shit. Including Liar Liar. He needs a new gimmick. |

Yea I agree that his best stuff was his early stuff. Like the Ace Ventura stuff, Mask, his Mad TV stuff, early stand up routines.
Ace Ventura might seem weak now, but in it's day that was good stuff. |

I dunno, saying Jim Carrey isn't funny, then saying Cable Guy was an all right movie, kind of makes me not want to value your opinion

I thought Bruce Almighty was awesome. I did think Jim Carey was funny in the movie but I also liked how it kind of put you in God's shoes. Even though it was more of a comedy there were scene's that made you think "Hmm, maybe I should be more greatful."
When Bruce was talking about his girl with God and asked "How do you get somebody to love you without affecting free will?" and God said "I wish I knew." or something like that... scene's like that were done well in my opinion. Also seeing what happened if God simply said "Yes" to all of our prayers. I think Jim's one of those comedians you have to be in the right mood for that's all. I definately understand the "His character is getting old" argument cause I believe it is too... but I also believe there's a place for everything. Bruce Almight, IMO, was the perfect place for ti. And EVERYONE loves the Truman show come on! |

The Ace Venturas, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber were funny. He was great in the In Living Color series. I wasn't a fan of some of his other stuff.
In general, he's pretty funny though. I think he tries to hard to do more serious roles, and wants to be taken seriously and all that, so he keeps doing shitty movies. |

He's shit.
I read a review for Elf the other day in kerrang, and it said something like "They reckon Will Ferrell is the next Jim Carrey. Not convinced" and I got really mad. CAUSE WILL FERRELL IS AWESOME A SJ DIAJS Jim Carrey basically plays the same fu>cking character in everyone of his movies and I want to smack him. |

Well he has some really good movies... Man on the Moon, The Truman Show, Bruce Almighty, The Majestic, Dumb and Dumber, The Mask, and Liar Liar. He is really good in those I don't like the Ace Ventura series though, not my bad. He really is a great actor though.

Anyways, Jim Carrey has some good movies, but he's nowhere near the comedic "genius" he's cracked up to be. I've enjoyed quite a few of his movies...
Once Bitten Liar Liar The Cable Guy (Though he was over the top...I mostly watched it because I like Broderick) Bruce Almighty I didn't see all of Man on the Moon, but I liked his performance from what I saw. Most of his other movies, I didn't like. I haven't seen the majestic. My brother wasn't impressed, that's all I can say. Here's the problem with him or any other modern-day superstar--Typecasting. I should say one problem. He can't break away from that Ace Ventura style character, whether ot not he actually WANTS to. His fans, the people who flew in droves to see that, basically wants to see that from him every time. The rest of the world hates him, because they expect that act again. Think the "I didn't do it" Episode of the Simpsons. Bart tries to make himself more than a one liner, and Conan O'Brian tells him to just say the damn line. |

In Living Color. Not Mad TV. Thank you RBM.
I can't believe I overlooked Dumb and Dumber, that was very funny as well. |

The guy was gold on SNL. GOLD! I would go as far as to say that he is the greatest cast member of all time. As for Carrey, he's far from a comic genius. If you compare him to legends of comedy, then no he isn't funny. But The Truman Show, The Majestic, and Man on the Moon are some of my favorite movies ever. |

The Cable Guy was unfairly panned. It was nothing special, or anything.
However, what made it funny was Broderick's playing off Carrey than anything else. Most of Carrey's films get him playing a real dickhead, with a talented actress playing a stereotypical unappreciated wife role, in which she gives generic reactions to Carrey's tedious overacting. It worked in the Mask, but not since then. And I forgot about Man on the Moon. It was quite good, but then Carrey was actually playing a guy who was funny. |

Well, try to get "Doing Time on Maple Drive" from ebay or something, it was his first movie, its a drama. He plays an alcoholic in a family full of problems and curruption when the family "should" be perfect. Its not a great moive but Carrey is amazing in his role.

And, no, Jim Carrey isn't funny. He was funny, back when I was like 10. In the days of Ace Ventura (first one, the second one sucked), and in Dumb and Dumber. If you want a funny actor, Christopher Guest, Eugene Levy are the two most hilarious people I have ever seen. |
