A thought about the Pens....
Just a thought that hit me last night when I was thinking about the Pens and their current situation.
A "what-if" thought, unimportant, but leaves you wondering what may/could have been. Craig Patrick's worst decision ever was to fire Scotty Bowman (correct me if I'm wrong, but if memory serves me right, he was fired) after the Pens were upset in 92-93 by the Islanders after being huge favorites to win the cup for the third straight time. Scotty coached the Pens to the President's Cup and a franchise best 56-21-7 in 92-93, while Lemieux had 160pts, Stevens 111, Tocchet 109, Francis 100, and Jagr 94. Bowman had a .628 winning percentage during his 164 games with Pittsburgh, the best in Pens history. Scotty then took over in Detroit, and the rest is history. If Scotty had remained with the Pens, I do not know if the team would be better off now, but perhaps in the mid-late 90's the Pens might have won a few cups which may have resulted in a new arena, etc, and the team may be better now. Well, at least they have Fleury and wouldn't have him if the team hadn't fallen apart. Sort of a useless post, but it's just a thought I had, the notorious "what-if" scenario. |

The Penguins are the biggest "what-if" team in the history of sports... what if they never traded Naslund for a player who had a total of 7 career points, what if they never drafted Mario, what if they did get a new arena and weren't on the verge of bankruptcy the past 4 years, etc etc.... it hurts to think about

you can't go wrong having scotty coaching your team. still though winning coaches get fired sometimes, it happens. |

Even worse........what if the Nordiques had stayed in Quebec. They won the cup the first year on Colorado, that sucks for Nords fans and Canadian hockey.

Tverdosky was part of the trade with the Ducks/Jets that sent Selanne to the Ducks |

What if the Rangers traded Richter for Cujo a few years ago? What if they never got rid of Amonte? What if they had a real coach?

LOL I was at a game vs the Sens. Potvin had a pretty decent 1st period. Canucks were up 1-0 after a goal like right a the buzzer if I remember. 2nd period comes along, Potvin does his usual sucking....20,000 people yelling "we want bob we want bob" It was also Roger Neilson's first night back in Vancouver since he started his battle with cancer or something like that. So some local radio company was handing out white towel. A good dozen or so people threw those towels on the ice at Potvin's direction. So hilarious. I belive Bertuzzi even called the fans actions a disgrace at the end of that night  |
