Is the WWE saving Edge vs HHH?

This fued seems like something that should have happened by now. It was teased a few times, but has never really been properly done.

For the past few years, I've actually suspected it might be used for one of the Wrestlemania title matchups. Still, it hasn't been done. With all of the fueds that have occured in WWE, and been re-done, do you think there is a motive to this fresh one not being used?

Wasn't it rumored that HHH was supposed to feud with Edge in the spring of 2006 (after the HHH/Cena/Edge match at Backlash where HHH spinebustered Lita), and Hunter nixed the idea? I dunno, it sounds like a typical bs dirtsheet, but you never know. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the plan, since HHH was on his way to turning babyface anyway to re-form DX.

Also, I thought they were going to fight last year on WM, since they were both Champions on the same show, and they would unify the titles, forcing RAW to create a new belt. But, that didn't happen either...

The only PPV match they had together was at GAB 08, which had 3 weeks of build, and was centered around the Edge/Vickie story, so you're right, it's never gotten its true match-up, which is really confusing. It seems as though Edge has had programs with just about everyone else in the entire company except HHH.

The only interactions I recall them having were being part of a few triple threat PPV matches and fueds.
And of course the tag team fued between DX and Rated RKO. Other than that, their interactions have been limited mostly to random promos and television tag matches.

They had a short feud back when HHH was still on SD back in 08. HHH "leaked" the Vivkie Guerrero "nudes"

Yeah, it happened at the Bash in 08, same card with Punk vs. Batista and HBK vs. Jericho..but still, the match wasn't built around the heat between Hunter and Edge, and it really felt like they were still holding onto this match for a later date. It was very rushed and forgettable. Not sure why these two haven't gotten a chance to make some money together in a blood feud. It'd be pretty awesome :y:

Other than GAB 2008 they havent really had a feud or a match. I guess they must be saving it then. Kind of weird they are saving that one though as it doesnt seem like that spectacular of a feud.

I wonder if they dont have the best chemistry with each other? I remember The Rock and Undertaker never having a great match or feud, could be something like that.

Yeah wow Franchise, good point. Now that you mention it, Taker and Rock never had a long program together, but rather just a couple of 3 or 4 week programs a few years apart. Kinda weird...

That's why I think they're saving it. WWE conserves it's fueds and creates dream matches, so they mean something when they actually happen.
I actually like this. They don't just jump the gun and do everything ASAP. Edge vs Christian, or a tag team reunion is an example of this.

I think Edge and Christian vs The Hardys was another they were holding onto for a rainy day, but now Jeff is slumming.

CM Punk vs Michaels would be a nice one. But now Shawn is winding down, and possibly close to done, so maybe they waited too long on that one.

Barring injuries or retirement, I think it's pretty much guarunteed that Cena vs Taker will headline Wrestlemania 27

This is exactly the kind of feud I was thinking of when I voted in the "Who's a better face Orton or Edge" poll earlier. This would be the kind of feud that would absolutely demolish a face Edge character.

I could see them going with HHH too. They've already faced at Mania, but it was a long time ago.
Personally, I'd rather them do something else, but I could definitely see them going that route.

Punk and Jericho would both be great fueds, but I don't think anyone would really buy either of them having a shot of snapping the streak. They've really pushed the threat in recent years, so I think they'd go with something to keep fans guessing.

You're probably right about Vince. Outside of Cena, he might be the best choice as far as a threat is concerned. The fans would probably be really nervous of Mr. McMahon snapping the streak through some ridiculous chain of events.

I do like the idea of him making it to a 20th match. I don't know if he will though. They might want to do Cena/Taker next year, while they can.

They should probably do it next year, yeah I agree. Taker probably will be quite detiorirated by 2012. Maybe Punk will be a much bigger star by then or as you said HHH would be a solid choice. They could even put him in a Triple Threat for a World Title (which would make increase the chance of the streak breaking since he could lose without even being pinned) and that way the other two guys could do most of the work if Taker isnt physically able to go at his best anymore.

Will be interesting to see.

That is true. I can see that happening too. I hope the big swap this year is Edge ---> RAW and Cena ---> SD. Then I hope we get a HHH heel turn. So RAW has Batista and HHH as the top heels with Edge and Orton as the top faces. Face Edge/Heel HHH, Face Edge/Heel Batista, Face Orton/Heel Batista.... all huge feuds that are fresh. Then SD gets the needed star power in Cena and we can see the new and improved Y2J vs Cena, Punk vs Cena etc

They had a heel vs heel match before Wrestlemania 21 too. I think it was in Japan. I believe the show ended with Batista raising Triple H's arm but staring at the World Heavyweight Title (this is before he used his Rumble title shot) and HHH looking at Batista staring at his title. Amazing end to RAW.

I can't believe this is Edge and Jericho's first real PPV match. It's their first big match since that awesome cage match on Smackdown in 2002.

I guess it's just circumstances that caused them to go this long without a proper fued. Edge really wasn't a single star on Jericho's level until 2002, and then he got injured. Then Jericho was on hiatus during Edge's rise to the main event.

Really glad it's happening finally, let alone at a Wrestlemania, and for a world title to boot.

I know man. I'm so stoked for this Mania. I could talk about it all week and probably will. Other than Taker-HBK obviously, this is going to probably be a mid-late card show stealer. (Eddie/Angle, Savage/Flair style). I am hoping they go between 15 and 20 minutes. Not too many false finishes because Taker/HBK and Cena/Batista will be jammed with those. Looks like the match will probably be built around Edge gunning for the SPEAR and Jericho doing all he can to avoid it. Mixed in with other awesomeness. If Edge is going to win, I hope Jericho kicks out of one spear. If Edge loses, I am guessing Edge wont hit the spear at all??

I dunno. You know what is interesting? The WWE have updated their Mania site and now the match at the top of card is Taker vs HBK followed by Bret vs Vice then the WWE Title and the World Title is now fourth.

If it was 5 hours, I'd be perfectly fine with a divas match on there. Not a shitty clusterfuck though. I'd actually like to see a Maryse vs Mickie James match to unify those titles. The ends justifies the means.

Also, you probably could have snuck an IC title match on there with a couple of the guys from MITB.

Those would really just be extra filler to reach the 5 hours though. I'd be all for it, since it would be more wrestling entertainment and would allow for a few extra minutes in some of the existing matchups.
But I'm fine with it as is.

I remember hearing reports that Triple H wanted to work with Edge at one. But that never really happened, because both guys were heels. I doubt the WWE is "saving" it as it doesn't seem like a major money match, but I can see them being mindful not to throw it out there too much.
