03-29-2010, 11:25 PM
Can't believe he's actually retiring...

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't believe him, it's just hard to wrap my head around the fact that I may never see the man who is essentially the greatest wrestler ever wrestle again. Especially odd since very few of the greats retire "young."

With that said, if this is the end, I can easily say that Shawn Michaels is, without a doubt, the best professional wrestler there is, and could very easily be the best there ever will be.

Bret Hart, Undertaker, Stone Cold, Triple H, Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, John Cena, Randy Savage, Ric Flair, Mick Foley, Kane, Diesel, Razor Ramon, Hulk Hogan

I wouldn't say it was sadder, it was just very different. Was a HUGE huge production, which was probably how Shawn wanted it. That being said, I do think it's more significant since this is his first "retirement", and I do actually seem him sticking to it believe it or not.

The first Shawn Michaels match I remember seeing live was in early '96, before Mania 12. He was the semi-main even that night, wrestling against Steve Austin, who was the Ringmaster at that time.

I know I went to WWF shows before that, I was just too young to really remember any of the matches.

I will never forget the Rumble of 95. They were still doing the interviews backstage when the wrestlers drew their numbers, and he sounded so confident and happy about his number. Then he comes out as number one and everyone was talking about how he was bluffing. Then Davey Boy had number two and at that point I didn't even consider he would win. And then he went the distance and put on a hell of a show with big Diesel at Mania.... awesome, awesome "Road to WrestleMania".

I recorded it and saw him this morning holding the belt at the end'. I went home and watched the entire match anyway even though i knew it went to overtime and it was that match that made me a fan for life. I hated wrestling until i saw Shawn Michaels wrestling on Raw in my friends house in late 95, went home and started watching Raw the next week. Shawn Michaels is a huge part of everything in pro wrestling. What would Wrestlemania be without him? What would Raw be without him?

He was a huge part of the old school era, the attitude era, and the modern era. Star of one of the greatest tag teams of alltime, one of the greatest stables of alltime, and just about everything in between.
The first hell in a cell, the first elimination chamber, the first big ladder match.

He was the best in the ring, and one of the alltime greats on the microphone, and as a character. Played a great heel. Played a great face.

Pretty much everything wrestling fans care about, Shawn has his fingerprints on.

You know watching these videos, I have to wonder how it feels being THAT good. Like seriously, you look back at Michael Jordan, the ABSOLUTE BEST at what he did. It's the same with Shawn, once he stepped through those ropes, he was the ABSOLUTE BEST. Guys wanted to wrestle Shawn Michaels, because he made everyone look good. I can't even imagine how it feels to know that of your match with Diesel, or Razor, or Yoko, or Taker, or Foley or anyone... was the best match of their career; and everyone knows you were responsible for it being such. Not because they were necessarily bad, but because you were so much better than anyone else they'd ever face...

Just unreal to think about...

In my opinion, even guys the caliber of Jericho and Angle had their best matches with Shawn.

Cena's best match to date that I've seen was with Shawn. Not sure about HHH, but it's damn close at the very least.

Austin's best match could have been with Shawn, had Shawn not been injured when they did face, and then take time off after that.
Even still, they had two fantastic matches.

Think about his Summerslam match with Hogan. It was NOWHERE NEAR Shawn's best match, and it was arguably the best of Hogan's career.

When he lost to Austin, I was sure his career was over. When he returned in 2002 to the NwO, I was so happy. And now, I feel empty. I watch wrestling for Randy Orton, Taker, HHH, CM Punk, Jericho, and Edge. Orton's the future, hands down. Taker's retiring soon, same with HHH. Jericho's getting up there, Edge is one injury away from having to retire. And CM Punk is CM Punk. I honestly do not know what to feel. Flair tarnished his legacy and what McMahon did for him. HBK will not do the same.

Jericho's getting up there, Edge is one injury away from having to retire. And CM Punk is CM Punk. I honestly do not know what to feel. Flair tarnished his legacy and what McMahon did for him. HBK will not do the same.

I'm not a huge follower now a days, but when I do I feel like Orton could definitely shoulder the load in the future over most anyone else.

Anyone find it ironic that on March 29th 1998 Shawn Michaels wrestled lost the title to Steve Austin at Wrestlemania XIV which would prove to be his last match in the WWE for over 4 years.

On March 29th 2010 Shawn Michaels says good-bye to wrestling and retires.

He left the WWE two diffrent times on the same day, 12 years apart.

I'd also like to add the identity of the Royal Rumble to the list. The dude is synonymous with the Royal Rumble.

How often do people talk about the time he entered first and won the thing? Even into his veteran years, he was always the sentinmental pick in the Rumble and everyone would mark out when he entered.

And you know what, for those 12 years, I think I truly lived as a wrestling fan thanks to HBK. I'll never forget the night he won the Elimination Chamber to become champ. Cut all the Kliq bullshit and anything people are going to say about him. That man had not held either World title since the end of 2002. That's how much this man loved this business. Didn't need the World title to satisfy or cement his legacy. For that, I will be forever thankful to him, for not being the selfish prick that some of these wrestlers feel that they need or deserve to be World Heavyweight champions

You could make a DVD on HBK's Wrestlemania matches alone

The Franchise
03-30-2010, 01:56 AM
WrestleMania X Ladder Match vs Razor Ramon
WrestleMania 12 Iron Man Match vs Bret Hart
WrestleMania 14 vs Stone Cold
WrestleMania XIX vs Chris Jericho
WrestleMania XX vs Triple H & Chris Benoit
WrestleMania 21 vs Kurt Angle
WrestleMania 22 Street Fight vs Vince McMahon
WrestleMania 24 vs Ric Flair
WrestleMania 25 vs The Undertaker
WrestleMania 26 vs The Undertaker

That's ten matches right there. Not even counting the ones with Diesel and Cena which were decent I guess.

Think of gimmick matches. What's the best of each type? More often than not, he was in it.

Hmm....

Ladder Match? Check.
Hell in a Cell? Check.
Elimination Chamber? Check.
Iron Man? Check.
Last Man Standing? Probably a check here too.

What other gimmick matches are there? I guess Steel Cage but that has to be Bret/Owen

Someone should make a torrent rip of all of those matches and upload it.

While we're at it, it's interesting he left the WWE two different times, on the same day, 12 YEARS apart...

...and if you remember, the "boyhood dream" began when he was 12...

...just saying.

which fans, the overzealous "you just committed a sin" fans or "let's not talk about God, he's not so cool" fans?:-\

no, to his fans of jewish, islamic or any other religious backgrounds that don't believe that Jesus is the messiah. i know he's pretty fanatical about his born again christian bullshit, but to alienate thousands of fans like that in your final wrestling sendoff is either very ignorant, or very disrespectful to a portion of your fan base.
