Well, right. Not really the point though. If you're going to have a more "unknown" or "up and coming" champion then you have to make him look legit with solid clean wins over top competition.

This isn't HBK circa 96-98. He is not Cena. Would you guys stop digging so deep into it. He is not even a RAW competitor. Besides, RKO is the man.

What exactly is he World Champion of if people beat him? They aren't on the same show, so it's not likely Orton is getting the next title shot (not considering the draft here). It serves no purpose for Orton to win clean.

Swagger losing makes the belt look meaningless and him [as the champion] look weak. He is not being built up to "reach the next level" and trying to "earn respect," he is the World Champion.

Ok, so if somebody won the title the way he did, do you think he would be "on that level" like a six time world champ like RKO or a multiple time champ like Cena? No, that just doesn't make any sense. He looked REALLY good in the match, and his character will build. Lol i love how Swagger wins the championship via "cash-in" when an opponent is down and out, and Swagger is supposed to be unbeatable. Even rookie QBs who are drafted into the NFL aren't the top five QBs in the league until a couple of years. C'mon people, lets not get TOO technical about everything with wrestling. I think that is one reason why fans aren't as "hot" as they used to be because they: 1) Think they know everything and how everyone should be handled 2) won't chill and relax and drink beer and enjoy the damn show. God i miss ECW.

It still doesn't make sense to have the champion lose. He is supposed to be the best of the best. How can that be if he is losing one-on-one matches cleanly (no matter who it is)?

The World Championship is supposed to be above everything else, which means the guy who holds it should be treated as the top guy.

screech, if you are going to get technical about it, then i guess Kane shouldn't have lost the title back to SCSA back in '98. Though i would've liked to see that, its called "building up" and "momentum". Yes, he is champ and he should not lose THAT MUCH. But your first week, winning by a cash-in of MITB, and you go against a guy who is not only hot, full of momentum, but is a six time world champ, has wrestled the likes of ALL the top stars in the WWE, and Swagger is just supposed to "beat" him b/c he is champ. I understand he needs a clean win, do not disagree there. But its his first week as champ, he didn't win the title match by a "clean" victory, and he doesn't have the resume like RKO. If, that is, you are going to get technical.

Swagger needs a good PPV win, a SD! win and maybe a tag match loss, then ok. But he did not "work his way up the ladder and win at a PPV", he cashed in MITB in a "10 sec title match". What kind of "skill" does that possess?

Screech has said that he's referring to one on one NON-TITLE matches like 9 times now, thus making your example irrelevant. This is a basic wrestling concept here. You book your champion as your top guy until there is a guy to challenge him on a money card. You don't job him out in non-title matches that don't necessarily mean anything.

You book your champion as your top guy until there is a guy to challenge him on a money card. You don't job him out in non-title matches that don't necessarily mean anything.

See, this is exactly why wrestling is "dead". Because everyone thinks they know "wrestling" and should be bookers, writers, etc. I'm not saying that the writers are brilliant, but c'mon. You guys need to chill out about little shit like this. And it doesn't matter if it is title or non-title matches, no one is understanding the concept that IM trying to illustrate. The way he won his title is what i am talking about. I'm not saying that he shouldn't have some type of credibilty, i understand where screech is coming from from a "credibility" standpoint. But like i said, the guy won the shit from a guy with "taped up ribs", just got his ass speared, and was barely "conscious" for the "match" they had. If everything was so predictable like you guys make it, it would be boring. (Cena is another story).

A guy who wins the Heisman Trophy in football for like 2 years out of his college career is not going to go into the NFL and dominate or "not lose non-title matches". He is stepping into a WHOLE different level of players/athletes. I mean, its evolution and simple logic. Narc wants to talk about logic, well the Big Show should be winning every god damn match he is put in lol. But he is not, the business is portrayed as "you can lose any night, any time, any show. Be on your A-game and get ready". Swagger is going to do fine as champ, IMO. The guy will "learn" from his mistakes and will not "lose non title matches" as much because he realizes what level he is on now. That is modern day logic about ANYTHING pertaining to a type of "sport" or "Sports Entertainment" for this matter.

screech, if you are going to get technical about it, then i guess Kane shouldn't have lost the title back to SCSA back in '98.

Kane lost the belt the day after he won it (don't like it, but it happened so whatever). That has nothing to do with this. We are talking about a champion not losing non-title matches, not the champion losing his title.

That is the nature of Money in the Bank. The whole idea is/has become to take advantage of a situation and become "The Man." The opponent should not matter, whether it's a six time champion or a new guy. The champion is supposed to be seen as THE guy. Again, if he loses, there is no reason for him to have the belt.

Swagger needs a good PPV win, a SD! win and maybe a tag match loss, then ok. But he did not "work his way up the ladder and win at a PPV", he cashed in MITB in a "10 sec title match". What kind of "skill" does that possess?

Again, that is the nature of the case. He earned it, and picked his spot to win the title. That means [once again, kayfabe] he is above everyone else. He should be treated as such to build the title's credibility and his own as the champion.

Nark Order

Have the new challenger work his way up the card. Have him "take the champion to the limit," and "earn his respect" to get a shot. It's not that hard.

Exactly! i agree with this method but swagger didnt do this, he has no 'respect' which is why Cena gave him none and he took the champion to the ten second mark

The way Sheamus/Swagger won their respective titles doesn't matter here. The fact is that they held them and neither was treated as the top guy.

He won the match in the only way you can possibly end the match. He put him through the table. My god you guys.

You know, you would've all come across better in the beginning had you not tried to pull the "So, Swagger should just never lose ever? He should be completely unbeatable?" deal. Nobody ever claimed any of that. This ONE EDITION of Monday Night RAW was poorly booked in terms of the World Heavyweight Championship. You just don't job your flagship guy out in his first match since winning the title to a guy that most likely isn't even going to be challenging for that title at all. It doesn't make any sense. Booking 101.

I am saying what I've been saying all along: the World Champion should be treated as the top guy. There would be no point in having champions if they were not held in a higher regard than everyone else on the roster.

I am not sure how I felt about Raw. I think Otunga did a good job, but nothing really stood out, well except Swagger losing.

I still don't see the connection between Otunga winning a battle royal and hosting RAW. Why was that such a prize?

I understand the point of people hating how Swagger lost clean, but I have no problem with it.

Swagger (like some previous MITB winners) is viewed as a "fluke" Champion as of right now, who needs to prove that he can hang with the main event players. I think it would be a bit too much to see Swagger going over Orton clean already. He had a great performance and looked strong against RAW's rising babyface. In my opinion, a clean loss would have hurt Orton more than it would Swagger.

It seems as though WWE's plan may be to let us watch Swagger "grow up", mature as a champion, and slowly prove himself to be a main eventer night in and night out, and not just all of a sudden.

Now, I'm not saying Orton pinning him clean was the best option, because I would have preferred a DQ (or they not face at all), but I honestly don't think this hurts Swagger much at all.

I was a little disappointed Swagger did a clean job but Orton has been uber hot as of late, and Swagger all of a sudden being able to beat top guys despite being in obscurity for over 6 months makes little sense.

I understand the "top guy should be booked like the top guy" argument and I agree with it, but at the same time Swagger should not just be able to dive right in a find success. I think the match should have been booked with either Swagger going over Orton after hitting with the belt or getting dq'd, or just walking out of the match in frustration that he could't beat Orton, which would lead to count out.

Either way, it was a great match, and I almost want Orton on SmackDown! so he can chase.

Otunga is almost as intolerable as Cena.

It's pretty obvious he is going to somehow make it out of NXT and get a push fro the start. The only thing he has going for him is his mainstream wife. Yes, he's got a good look, and the gimmick is pretty much built in, but he's going to get shoved down our throats.

Just wait until he cracks the main roster. It's going to be a brutal summer.

...I would have preferred a DQ (or they not face at all)...

The two facing makes sense because Orton pinned Swagger in the tag match last week, but I don't like how the match ended. It would have been better if what you suggested happened...

...I think the match should have been booked with either Swagger going over Orton after hitting with the belt or getting dq'd, or just walking out of the match in frustration that he could't beat Orton, which would lead to count out.

...or this happened. While going over clean would have helped Swagger (and really should have happened given that he is "The Man"), it may have hurt Orton. It also may not have hurt him, since it could have been seen as Swagger getting revenge for last week (that's a bit of a stretch though).

Either of these two finishes would have been better scenarios, because they would have shown Swagger as a more credible champion without hurting Orton.

You'd think bringing back Gail Kim would resuscitate the Women's division.

Instead we got Eve getting a shot at the Diva's title.

Sad.

no it's not sad, in fact i'm glad, but I don't get the hat Eve gets everywhere:( and turn around and act as if Maryse is "teh greatez" ever:rofl:

And they already tried Gail, and that title match stunk, so let's hope they put on a decent match next week

i really have no idea what this post means, in any language.
Maryse cant wrestle
Eve cant wrestle

Next week both will miss a lot of moves, at least one big moment will be botched and it will last about 1 minute and 20 seconds, it WILL suck

Yeah, RAW was actually pretty decent last night. It was ALMOST like they were actually trying for a change. I'd give it a 7 out of 10.
