• MvC3 will contain a Simple Mode where there will be only one or two attack buttons. This is for new fighting game players so they can get used to things. They can switch to Standard Mode when they feel like they've got the hang of the title.

• Niitsuma confirmed there will be DLC of some sort for MvC3, what exactly will be in these packs hadn't been decided yet though.

• Certain character combinations will enable you to do things that you otherwise wouldn't be able to do. Also, Niitsuma specifically said that they're pushing the individualism of the characters much more so than they did in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom.

• Capcom-Europe is currently filming MvC3 player guides with producer Niitsuma-San & general fighting game fanatic Electric Leo.

• MvC3's lobby system will be different than the one that was in Street Fighter 4.

• Ryota said that SF4 got a 3DS and iPhone release because of it's success on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and it's possible MvC3 could follow in those footsteps as far as having ports to those platforms as well as a Wii and arcade versions, but again, nothing has been decided yet.

• In the first prototype, MvC3 was more of a spiritual sequel to Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, but now the developers want it to be a true sequel to the Marvel vs. Capcom franchise.

• MvC3 was refereed to as a "Triple A, huge budget title," on par with Street Fighter 4 in terms of development costs, so Capcom very much expects this to be a highly successful game.

• Capcom would have to go back and renegotiate another contract with Marvel if they wanted to create an arcade release of MvC3 or other ports.

• Disney buying Marvel has had no impact so far on the development of the game.

• Marvel must approve everything Capcom does. From actual character actions, names of the moves, marketing and promotion and even if they hold live events, Marvel must give their OK.

• At this stage of development, everything is pretty much locked down as far as the characters and features they'll be able to put in the game, but it's possible in the future, they may be able to add in fan requests and other things via DLC, but the schedule is locked down for as far as launch stuff is concerned.

I don't really like the fighting community either. The elitism is so annoying. Anyone that doesn't know hitbox data or stun damage or can't pull off some needlessly complex combo is a "scrub".
The hypocrisy is what really gets me though. I say how frustrating it is to play as Zangief online when the other players spam projectiles or a certain move Zangief just cannot get around and I'm called a "scrub", told to "learn to play the game" and "Stop expecting ppl to play by your personal rules!".
When someone gets larieted to death by a Zangief player everyone agrees how cheap that player must have been and how spamming is for "scrubs".

Anyway, I read a while ago that Zangief isn't in MvC3. Anyone know if that's true?

There's been a lot of talk about Haggar from Final Fight as the grappler, so I don't know about Gief making it in. Grapplers don't fit well in Vs games usually (though Gief is unusually beast in MvC2). I guess we'll see.

And back on point; yeah the fighting game community are bitches. Rampant elitism, contradictions, stagnant growth; they're their own worst enemy. The MLG situation proves this in spades. The gaming community at large were pretty shamed with how Sonic fans reacted to Sonic 4, well the truth is fighting gamers are like that on a regular. They're so cynical and overly critical some people pointed out that they don't seem to like fighting games at all. Pathetic.

The idea that people choose characters based on tiers is epic gay to me. The idea that the fighting game genre is somehow outside of the general gaming industry (in regard to modern design trends) is pompous. I'm glad Capcom and other companies are smarter than that, otherwise fighting games would remain in a drought.

I enjoy the diversity immensely.

Houseparties are definitely a forgotten art around here for the most part though, which is a shame because I loved them. Boston is only 20 minutes away so ever since 21 the houseparties have slowly but surely been assimilated by the city bars, or even local dives.

Whiff building just looks bad aesthetically to me. Sort of like cross-ups, which is why I love Gen's kicks looking like they specifically cross up - not that "well it's a hit-box thing..."

With past talk of how important whiff building is, I wonder how people would react to simply charging meter DBZ style (make it like BBCS's Tsubaki where you can do it wherever). Maybe have short increases like taking 'redbull shots' or whatever. It would work functionally verbatim with whiff building, but I imagine people would still find something wrong with it (sort of like the infamous E attack). Ironically for aesthetic reasons probably.

MvC3 has no whiff building, which is awesome. Some dudes claim this helps runaway tactics. Except the bitchiest characters in MvC3 just so happens to be flyers. Another poster echos this thought in another discussion (the SSF4 arcade buff/nerfs):

ALSO, question: any word on Spider-man yet? I've seen him in no trailers, screenshots, or gameplay videos. He hasn't been mentioned, there's no silhouettes of him. As far as I know, Activision has a total grip on his balls--and knowing Activision, they probably won't let him go. Shattered Dimension reinforced their control over EVERY possible Spider-man--from Scarlet to Noir to Spider-Ham. I know there's a Daily Bugle level in MvC3, but neither the Daily Bugle nor Jonah Jameson were featured in Shattered Dimensions.

I love the roster as it is, my faves are in, but if I were to imagine a wishlist:

- Domino, with a revised Saki moveset.
- Ms Marvel or She-Hulk, either one can fill the tough chick slot for Marvel.
- Pixie (Dark Ver.), right up Capcom's alley.
- Phoenix, very much boss material.
- Psylocke or Elektra, only one ninja bitch needed.

Capcom

- Mega Man (Star Force or EXE), he is Capcom.
- Sakura, X23 needs a rival.
- Cammy, because this is me we're talking about.
- Samunoske, he's badass.
- Nero, no he does not play like Dante.

Would very much like to see a returning Soki. He is slow as dirt, bt god damn I could crush people with him. I had him and Tekkaman as my team playing for the very first time in TvC and I crushed both my brothers (who had been playing this regularly for months) for 10 straight fights. Love that guy.

I'm pretty "meh" to most of the roster so far. Spider-Man & Tron Bonne are the only one's I'm interested in from the list so far.

I want to see if Spencer from Bionic Commando is in and how he plays. Wouldn't mind a Zangief style character to help me settle in, either. I know the MvC series is far too fast paced for a slow grappling character, though.

Actually 'Gief is scary in MvC2. But yeah, grapplers and charge characters aren't 'at home' in the versus series, not without some tweaks.

I never really spent much time with MvC2 because I was too busy with SFIV/SSFIV. When I did play MvC2, it was usually with someone else so it was mostly picking random characters and just messing around. I never really "learned" Zangief or anyone else in MvC2.

I've just read that there is a rumour that the "classic" Spencer is the characters default look and they are just using the dreadlock version in the trailer to help people tell the difference between Spencer and Wesker, apparantly. Seems unlikely to me.

I would like the classic look, even if it was a purchasable alt the alts in SSFIV but I'm just glad he's in at all.

So far, it looks like my group could be Spencer, Tron & Arthur with, maybe, Spider-Man if one of those 3 don't do it for me.

I've never heard of Modok but he looks pretty weird. I can't look at him and see a "straight" villain. He was some kind of comic relief bad guy, surely, right?

Also sounds like how they added the Tastunoko vs Capcom style into the game since it used the simple style as an option. Only difference is TvC didn't restrict the movelist unlike what MvC 3 is going to do.

Specials were A+B or a shake of the wiimote for a normal special and then A+B/wiimote shake with a directional pad push for other specials.

You didn't have all of your normals with TvC's Wiimote controls. It was frustrating to play that way.

I completely forgot about the Wiimote-only controls since I was thinking of the Wiimote with Nunchuck movelist almost being the same as the Gamecube or Classic Controller movelist.

TvC ends up having 3 styles with the very simple Wiimote only, simple Wiimote with nunchuck, and the traditional controller (GC or Classic Controller).

Imagine my disappointment when I seen how prevalent Plinking and Option Selects were in high level SSF4 play. Here I am busting my ass trying to get timing down and some fucker found out how to artificially open the link window. Option Select is when you input a normal move like a low kick and frame-shift to a throw command. If your opponent tries to throw you, you will break it. If he doesn't, you'll kick him. You're forcing the computer to leave you in the best position, with none of the trouble of reading your opponent. And that's just one application, they all boil down to making you as safe as possible.

Real. Capcom removed the evidence hastily. Mike Hagger, mayor of Cody and Guy's hometown, is in MvC3. Some people think he should have made it into SSF4 AE to join his buddies, though there's no reason to think he hasn't. He'll be a grappler most likely, which should make Drakul happy. This roster is genius.

This also makes one of the leaked rosters very credible, as it had listings that you simply can't guess or wish for and get lucky. It was a list that quickly came and went so I wanna find it now.

Seriously though, I don't think it was much of a stretch to assume we'd get a character like him. If Marvel has Hulk as their "big guy", it was obvious Capcom would get one too. I just assumed it would have been Zangief.

I'm wondering who the other Capcom character will be and whole the Marvel guys will be. They tend to reveal four at a time, two Marvel and two Capcom.

MvC3 will have a special edition plus Capcom UK is holding an art contest:

On Capcom Europe's website, an art contest was announced with a terrific prize, but another bit jumped out as well. Here's the blurb:

Capcom UK will select the best piece of artwork and the winning entry will receive either a PS3 or Xbox 360, a copy of Marvel Vs Capcom 3, a framed print of their winning entry and could have their entry featured in the art book to be released with the special edition of Marvel Vs Capcom 3: Fate Of Two Worlds!

It looks like Capcom Europe confirmed a special, or collector's edition, of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 with their announcement today.

This is something Capcom has talked about doing on a number of occasions, but it sounds like plans are much more concrete now. Details beyond what this edition will offer, besides the art book, of course aren't available, but it's nice to see that fans who want to purchase something more with their game will be able to do so, at least in Europe.
