Fuck that. That is a lazy ass excuse. It's about time someone called them out on this. I've been disappointed with fighting game storylines for a while now. It's not totally necessary, but it's nice to have. And back in the day, developers at least tried.

Instead, these days we get "Abel found a puppy", "Jin is evil now, just cause", and "Gouken overslept".

And I take OXM's scores to merit, because their ratings frequently fall in line with what I think about games.

Sick and tired of people letting them get away with being lazy, just because it's a fighting game. Fuck's sake, a part of the reason why Mortal Kombat has stuck around all these years, is because people enjoy the rich mythology and characters. So it bugs me when good fighting game developers don't even try.

MK certainly has a deep story, but I could do without their need to retcon so much. SF4 was half decent story-wise. SSF4 was not even quarter-assed because the main feature was the 26789623892375678235 tweaks to gameplay and 10 more characters. Sucks, but I'd have preferred if they'd not even changed the cutscenes than the tripe we got instead (aforementioned puppy, etc).

It shouldn't be too much of an issue how well a story is written when it is a mash-up style game like the Vs series or other crossover series like MK vs DC and Smash Bros.

I can see it being an issue for a regular series because each game needs to tie to another in the series and the story plays a much bigger role for the characters depth.

Granted ive only had a day or so with this game, but so far im impressed. 'Simple' mode is really easy to use (so long as youre comfortable with the AI picking what special move to use for you in a given situation).

Pwners Manuel's roster so far looks like Wesker, Wolverine, Hulk, Ryu. Will continue to tinker and see who becomes the main 3.

I don't think so. Other than that combo, Wesker is very much a hand to hand fighter, like a faster version of Abel imo. That being said, I want to master him, but I'm not the best regarding cqc.

- While we're imagining who will rock with who, I have a strange feeling Khuntry will rock dat green Dormammu. Maybe even have him on point instead of Zero. I think he will latch on to Trish as well. I believe he had his eye on Super-Skrull, which I didn't see coming. Thor was recently shown to have evil follow-ups after his command throw which should entice Khuntry. Zero and Ryu are a given.

- RoXer should have fun with an Akuma that moves better and has more options than usual. It's almost poetic justice that he now has a long range beam super, as well as a barrage super for up close - Akuma looks built for RoXer's KOcide tendencies and now has ways to save his own ass. RoXer made Raging Demon work in a slower game, in this game RD looks instantaneous and more punishment than trap. I see him adopting Taskmaster simply because he looks like somebody RoXer would use.

- Alva will play with Iron Man eventually. Thor looks like his type as well. Hard hitter who locks you down and all that. Alva is not a combo fiend so he may value a few well placed hits over dialing something long. He'll definitely stick with Chris.

- I imagine Drakul would have Haggar and Spencer on one team often. What I wonder is how he will balance the assists so Hagger could get in if he's on point. He will need a good projectile assist for both of them.

- Will be interesting seeing which one of us will dare to use Phoenix.

Good matches, and some insight as how combos work in the game (air combos work better starting with medium attack instead of light attack). It also shows how you can out think your opponent rather than need huge combos.

And no Shuma and Jill shouldn't be free despite being on disc. This was explained on another forum, but there is a cut off date for developing characters, and if any are developed after that date, it costs them money. Even if they are on disc.

I don't doubt that some companies use content that is already on disc to make extra cash, but in this case, and probably a few otrhers, they are just covering their losses.

I think he meant that if your announcing and showing off DLC that is already done before the game is out, it either should have been included with the game or could have balancing issues especially with future DLC characters.

Capcom has a bit of a problem doing that to DLC a couple of times in the past (ex. Mega Man 9 had a mode that was done before the game was released but charged for it). Most companies either just announce DLC is on the way or give some info but rarely have the whole thing done and shown before the main game goes on sale.

Important Note: These threads are locked every night from about 10 p.m. PST to about 8 a.m. PST, so if you want to have your voice heard, you'll need to log on during this time frame so you can post.

Voting will end on February 28, 2011 and the results will presumably be checked out by Capcom.

There's no official word on if the top vote-getters will be included in the game, but this has happened in the past with vanilla Street Fighter 4, as the top four characters in an older poll all made the cut.

If you want to see a certain fighter or two or three on the roster, this is your opportunity.

I love this game, but be prepared for some dastardly lag online. It's not even that bad - but just enough lag to harm a game of this pace. As noted before the game is light on modes and features.

But alot of those gripes vanish when you play one of the smoothest fighters I ever played. I love this game. It rewards creativity in a way you don't see often in fighters.

Me and my bro were tearing it up. This game is the NBA Street/NFL Street of fighting games. The fundementals are still there, hidden under what appears to be a Saturday morning cartoon line-up mixed with coccain and liquid fire. I love this game.

Change of plans for playing with Iron Man. I pretty much suck with him here. Dropping him. Shickingly enough, may have to drop Spidey as well. We are not meshing at all.

My main team right now is Dante/X23/Chun Li. Wesker (who is deliciously evil), will be on point for another team that features Phoenix. Phoenix gets killed off a super a few hits, very risky. But something about figuring her out is addictive.

There's like 20 ways to do any one approach for any character, no lie. The kneejerk reaction to the selection screen fades when you realize you're a long way from mastering a single character let along a team. Then the roster becomes daunting. You will dream up set ups outside of playing the game.

Still needs spectator mode. And online play isn't actually so bad, but it appears so with this kind of game.

Fear Ryu, he's a beast. Akuma too. Everybody's a beast.

I'm expecting things like Spectator Mode and other modes to be added as DLC eventually. They say they have enough DLC that they could theoretically release new stuff every 2 weeks. That's a lot of DLC and I can't see it all being characters and costumes.
They have Shadow Mode as DLC in March and that's basically a regular mode but with AI modeled after people like Seth Killian, so modes are going to be DLC as well.

I'm still learning, myself. I feel like I get the swing of things then I play somebody who makes a tactic look useless. Somebody bodied my main team by 'letting' Wesker in and punishing my surprise attacks which didn't surprise at all. I save X23 for last because she's pretty much a bitch with lvl3 X Factor. I drop combos with Dante a lot for some reason. And some of his normals can't be special canceled, but they can be mash canceled. I have to keep in mind what works and what doesn't. Until then it's rockets all day.

I may be picking up Trish, she's fun.

I like the NFL Street analogy, mostly because I still pick up that game all the time. Love that shit.

The problem for me will always be remembering combos and somehow working them into my normal routine. I'm not used to using the button dash either.

You don't have to remember long strings. This game is more about set-ups. I have this for X23 with Wesker and Dante on assist:

Close in with X23 and bait with her hard attack, have Dante pop in with his pistol assist that shoots downward. Counting on it to be blocked, I charge X23's pounce grab. When she pounces the opponent should have little time to react. The grab leaves you grounded*. Then I call in Wesker's low pistol shot that lifts you off the ground (OTG) and you're pretty much at the mercy of X23 (supers, relaunch, lvl3 "Bye bye!"). No long button sequence, just a number of actions.

However, I suggest get accustomed to [S (launch), Air combo: M, M, H, S (slam)]. What you do to get that first launch and what you do after the aerial slam is up to you and your whims, but that seems to be a universal air combo.

*Also people can be ground bounced and 'grounded'. Dante's air dive kick (qcf+L) or Hulk's standing H are examples of ground bounce. Grounded is usually after an aerial S slam - and I think the length of time somebody is grounded depends on the length of your combo. I say this because I can't seem to land X23's low slicer after an air combo - even though all the trailers show it, and I repeat the moves exactly (it could be something that was balanced out).

Some moves just look like they will hit grounded opponents so either experiment or look up OTG moves.

Why I don't see people pick Taskmaster I'll never know. He's almost another Dante with having everything you need.

Jill and Shuma will be 10$ as expected. The costume pack (6 alts) will be 5$. So I guess that the pricing structure, 10$ for two characters and 5$ for 6 costumes. I don't think you can buy anything separately and much later down the line Capcom may have the DLC in bulk to purchase for a discount (at the expense of waiting a while).

Also, Cap's Secret Avengers costume has him using his WWII shield. Dante changes into Sparda himself for Devil Trigger.

1v1 would be great for this game since the characters don't need assists have much as the past MvC games. It would be like a next-gen Marvel Super Heroes game, which is bitchin. Unfortunately Capcom responded to that idea with apathy, with a representative going as far as to say "MvC3 may not be for you". It wasn't one of my favorite moments from MvC3's promotional campaign since 1v1 is a legitimate proposal, and having the option would win-win for all parties. I feel the same for full 6plyr (or 4plyr) tag mode, but I can understand the technical limitations there.

1v1 would be cool. Hell, have a 2v2 option as well. Not enough people seem to be interested in these things. Everybody wants Strider but not more modes.

I got the game in the post today and gave it a go.

It took a while to get accustomed to it and to figure out how I tag in/out but, now that I've gotten to grips with it on a basic level, I think I'm going to enjoy it.
Beat Arcade mode with Haggar so I could get used to him and had Deadpool and Ironman as team mates more as a safety net incase I felt I needed something simpler with it being my first time playing.

Looking to use Spencer eventually and Hsien-Ko when I unlock her. I've not got "My team" yet but I think Haggar will be in it after all, to no ones surprise.

Any attack button + (S). Like SSF4 you can hold until it becomes an unblockable hit, you can dash out of it, and it can absorb physical strikes (but not projectiles, I think).

She also has EX versions of her moves by replacing the attack button with (S).

And she can cancel thunder knuckle, burn kick, and seismo by pressing (S) during the move. Take it from a SoulCalibur player that this will fuck people up used properly.

The hurricane kick. It juggles long enough to follow up, like SSF4, except this is Marvel and you can do more than a shoryuken. In fact landing an air-hurricane kick on a standing opponent stuns them long enough for anything you have in mind. I'd say that hurricane kick is keys to victory.

His Demon Flip > burning dive kick OTGs grounded opponents, but hell if I know how to set that up. I don't think he can throw out of Demon Flip anymore.

Normally the last kick in the huricane knocks them out of range for a launch. For more combos yeah but not a launch. I know this because I go for the lauch after the H hurricane kick but he is out of range and gets hit with a projectile and I yell at my tv

Try the (L) or (M) versions. I hit that launch a few times in training mode myself. If needed add a dash after the last hit.

Also his air hurricane kick doesn't fly, it just falls. This is a good thing, you can use it like I used Ken's air-senpu in MvC2 and cross people up. Have Phoenix toss that fat fireball of hers to cover your jump and senpu down behind somebody. If it hits you have green light to rape.

- TPWW MvC3 tourny will be a league, with two main divisions (Marvel and Capcom).

- Preseason, Main Season, and Championship Event make up the general league schedule. Players must sign-up and participate in the preseason to be a part of the following two events.

- The preseason will not use the divisions, so all possible matches of all players will be scheduled. Earn as many points as you can before the series finishes! The total points of all players will decide main season division placement, after which preseason points will not factor. Each series will be sets of four matches.

- Matches are based on the accumulation of points, rather than a best-of series. At the end of a series any point earned (by winning a match), remains on your record. Even if you lose a series, you keep whatever points earned.

- The main season will employ the Marvel and Capcom divisions. Players will be separated according to their preseason points, to build balanced divisions. All possible matches within a division will then occur, with the same goal of earning as many points as you can from a series. Main season sets are eight matches.

- Unlike the preseason, you must register a team of characters to participate in the main season. Once chosen, this team will be locked onto your profile. Choose wisely and train hard. I'm open to discussing this.

- The players with the highest scores will represent their division in the championship event. Using their chosen team from the main season, they will compete in a set of twelve matches. In the event of a tie, a 13th match is required to decide the winner. Still uses the point system.

Probably. I'll jump in the tourney, but I am gonna have a hard time getting my practice time in. Just last night I was gonna get a couple of hours alone to sit down and train, but as I was leaving work, 2 of my boys bust out the vaporizer. Yeah, ended up being high from 11 pm to 4 am.

360 only, it's simply the most used console.

Pre and main season carry on with or without played games, players who miss their games gain no points. Players who would have otherwise played gain half of the most points they could have made (2 in preseason, 4 in main season).

The extra guys joining won't be a problem, it should still be fairly close nit if you all meet the participants beforehand. In most cases it already happened. My brother actually wanted to join in the past SF4 tournies but I told him it was a 'TPWW thing'. None of that shit now.
