I thought it was first to 3 wins. That's how Khuntry and I did it. I was getting really into it after getting those two wins in a row and almost getting a 3rd win for what I thought would be an over all victory.
Then my cat came and sat beside me, pawing at me and staring at me and breaking my concentration. After that loss, I sort of gave up a little because I couldn't get back into the flow. I was giving SSFIV my full concentration until then.
I've learned two things from the Tournemant. Never play a match when there is any chance of any form of life distracting you (Phone calls etc interupted me and Khuntry mid match a few time, he waited until I got back before smacking me around. Thanks for waiting btw.) and I'm much better with grapplers than I am with Sagat, Seth etc.
Anyway, so I'm out now, right?

With the rumoured 6 new DLC characters coming out around about Autumn/Fall or Winter, will we be doing this tournemant a 3rd time?

The connection was terrible but we trucked along. After trading wins the connection dropped completely. We would restart afterward.

With a much better connection we kicked off our series with some heated exchanges. I forgot how apt Blitz was with Guy and he's certainly a much safer fighter now. Even still I took it, but the matches were good - a tone set for the series. Pulled off a sick series of hits in the corner and was proud of myself.

Chun Li (Kalyx) vs Cammy (Blitz)

This was a step for me and Chun Li's relationship, taking her out to the tournament. Looks like a double date, too, with Blitz bringing Cammy and making me worry I stepped into a bad match-up. I played it safe and avoided giving Blitz free Canon Spikes. I was happy to see his Cammy didn't capitalize on a few of my mistakes. One-two many whiffed specials helped me out, too.

HOT DAMN. This was a tense match. Ibuki was too fast for some of my approaches and I adjusted after Blitz' Ibuki seemed to have my number. After the first match I incorporated more fire balls and Shoryu's to keep the ninja bitch away. Blitz pulled some stunts that had me worried. Highly recommend watching the replay.

Pretty much punishing Guy's whiffed moves and played it safe.

With Ibuki and Guy used up, I was fairly confident Blitz had no answer for my Sakura. Blitz caught me with more Shoryus then I should have allowed, but EX Senpuu combos ftw.

A very good series. Don't the '3-1's fool you, they were mostly great matches with cool moments and finishes. Blitz is a good Guy and his Ibuki is becoming a bitch.

Khuntry beat me 5-1. I haven't played in over a month, and warmed up seriously for about 1 minute before we started. I doubt very highly I would have beaten him anyway. I figured from the first FADC that I wasn't gonna do so hot. Don't remember the matchups much...I just fucked around really. I played Hakan x2, Guile, Bison, Rufus, and Adon. I won with Bison, despite not playing him at all for a very very long time. I know he's the guy I'm "good" at, but I've been more concerned with understanding all the characters recently and getting good at my inputs than getting "good" at anybody.

That would be cool. Though Cammy is fairly straight forward and relies more on reflexes. Chun Li is the most technically demanding character for me.

Once I get in close I mix up the arc kick, low kicks, and the down+foward fierce kick that works like a cross up, to deadly percision. It's how I got blitz's guy on the ropes( something that should be commended because to all due credit he's awesome with him) and dizzyed funky's el fuerte svereal times in one match. But I have trouble getting close enough to do this sometimes.

I can also do her jumping HP> back MK > up down MK > Kikosho Ultra combo, but I end up looking for it so much that I make stupid mistakes, and get KO'd. Just like I look for Juri's Special/FAC combo into ultras too much

Yeah you wanna impress yourself, but I like to look for opponent's actions with as much anticipation. Like with Chun Li all I want is for you to jump at me and I will beat you with her HP 2peice and set up Kikosho or EX Bird Kick, but people won't just do what you want. So you either need CPU on expert kind of psychic reflexes or you influence the fucker to jump, which can be done many ways.

Most of the attacks you do should be bullshit feints waiting for mistakes, if you're facing a bright lad anyway. Some people can be eaten alive by routine attacks, not worth the forethought. Then you got guys like Drak or RoXer who wisely cover up character weaknesses and the mind games expand.

Overall, however, SF4's DNA still ebbs toward execution rather than mindgames; so Soulcalibur is more attuned to my competitive beliefs (Yomi, shit like that). It helps that SSF4 is balanced as all hell, which is why we all got so evenly skilled in a short period of time with our own characters.

But yeah, we need to stop looking for self gratifying set-ups. Got me killed too much.

Yeah, definitely better at Tekken. Not so reliant on execution, and more on anticipating on what your opponent will do next.

VERRRRRY dissapointed with how far my tekken skills have fallen btw. Used to be as good at Tekken 5 as Khuntry is at SSF4. Now I'm a scrub again.

Well, you have to try and avoid getting caught with your opponent's pop up attacks. Anticipation. That's why I like Dragunov. Parry most pop ups into an arm breasker. BOOM. There goes the dynamite.

A lot of moves juggle you, though. The rewards for good reading is significantly less than the reward for dialing in a lengthy combo in Tekken 6.

Anyone who's good with a speed character like Guy, Cammy or Ibuki is really good in general, since you need perfect timing to be any good with those characters. Plus your Guy is pretty good, though your Ken and Ibuki are better, IMO.

I'm talking Kiryu Tsukimiya (youtube him) good. Honestly, my BP with Guy is only so high because no one uses him online so no one knows the matchup. And even then I'd say I win no more than 50% of my matches with him.

I don't understand your adulation for my Ken. Honestly pretty much all the fights I've had against you have been the exceptions to the rule. I'd say I probably win about 40% of my fights with him online. And Ibuki (Cammy too) has suffered greatly since I picked up Guy, as they are all have very different playstyles.

I really want to make my Guy into more of a rushdown threat. I tend to play runaway with him, relying on the Bushin Flip far too much. That's gonna be nerfed when the arcade update hits consoles, so I can't rely too much on it. I need to start incorporating Hozanto and related combos more.

I'm a pretty mediocre player altogether. I rely far too much on specials. Focus attacks have only recently become part of my game. I don't combo that much. I hit and run. Still wake up super/ultra way too much. Still jump in too much. I have a lot of bad habits I want to kick, and I figure the easiest way to do it is to focus on one or two characters for the moment.

Well, your Ken is pretty god damned aggressive. Completely smoked my Bison. Even when I beat him with T Hawk, it was pretty difficult.

Speaking of T Hawk, I took him online again a while ago, and everyone seems to know the game a lot better. I'm still winning, but people are spamming jumps to try and make me whiff. Just wanna be like "I play T Hawk, niggas. I control the skies." all the time. Makes me think a lot of people have picked him up.

I thought it was me. When I was Seth against Abel, just at the end of the match my game froze and then started up again really laggy and I was KO'd.

Watching you guys fight, I was a whole round behind in spectator mode because of lag.

When I was Zangief and fighting you, it wasn't as bad but it was still there. That's why I kept jumping backwards and kneeing thin air. I was trying to grab and it was all out of time/sync etc so it ended up as jumps.

When RoXer was about to win with Gens bicycle kick combo, It slowed down to a crawl for me and then just disconnected me completely and sent me to the menu screen.

I spoke to my brother and he couldn't get an internet connection at all the night before. Someone else I spoke to said their internet connect was really slow yesterday aswell so I thought maybe there was a local problem at my side.

That's just it. The game isn't new anymore, so we're getting a lot better and the brackets are more even now. Think about when this first came out: I sucked horribly with anyone but T. Hawk. A few of us would go on Win streaks for a bit there. Then as time passed our skills built up from constant battle and those of us who weren't so great to start are now catching up and those of us who dominated aren't doing it as easily.

Yeah, I read that yesterday. Some good points, but if he thinks Americans are gonna adopt better training regimens he's got another thing coming. And interesting that the only fighter Americans are better than Japan in is the unbalanced 'premium MUGEN' that is MvC2. That's like Brazilian gamers saying, "Yeah you Americans got Madden but we'll kill you in Blitz 2000!" We wouldn't be impressed with that, and I imagine Japan could give a shit about MvC2.

MLG wanted to run SSF4 tournies. SRK, which is essentially EVO, bitched about how MLG would harm the 'grass roots' scene of Street Fighter. Ignoring that EVO wishes it was MLG, and MLG would treat their winners much better, and the stage would be more mainstream. But SRK could give a fuck. Before Capcom gave them something to live for, EVO was a "group of guys in a hotel lobby playing Super Turbo". I think deep down they wanna keep that niche, exclusive boy's club bullshit.
