So pissed/upset right now over Star Wars Legacy. They just up and ended it. Got the final issue today and they left so much shit unanswered it's fucking annoying.

Also wondering when/if they'll release part 5 of 5 to Marvel Zombies 5.

I often wonder why there's such an obsession with vampires and zombies these days, but werewolves continue to get no love.
When will werewolves get a boom period? They've always gotten the least attention and they're amazing.

Werewolves are usually bitched into vampire stories as supporting characters these days, but that doesn't count

I've finally gotten around to playing Arkham Asylum this week and my god is it incredible in so many ways.
Love it to death.

This probably belongs more in the video games forum, but nobody will care in there and all the VG snobs will be like "old news"

It's a fucking awesome game. What system do you have it for? Also, there is a sequel, Arkham City, in the works.

Yeah, there needs to be a movie about werewolves. Like about a specific pack and their fights with other packs, other creatures and their internal pack politics and shit.

I was wondering if I was the only one pissed off about that. I really like Legacy. Apparently, they are releasing another Legacy series in December tho. However...it is only 6 issues. According to Dark Horse, it is suppose to finish up all the loose stories, etc.
I am fucking impressed by the courage of Dark Horse. I have a friend who works at a comic store and he was telling me how Legacy is prob. he best selling Dark Horse comic they have. Why the fuck end one of your strongest books? ridiculous..

Jeritron

Yea I read about the sequel a couple days ago. I have it for PS3

I played the shit out of it this week. Last night I finished the game. So great. I solved all the Riddler stuff too, I just need to complete the challenges.
This is the first video game in forever that I've actually cared about completing 100%

I love that version of Scarecrow. Conroy and Mark Hammil were great as always.
I think it's great that they held off on Two Face, Mr. Freeze, Penguin, Catwoman and some other villains. The sequel should be great.

I wonder if they'll do the Riddler side-missions again or develop something new.
I'd love to see them include Hush

Really I can't see how you can improve on the game much other than just adding more and covering new stories/characters.

One thing I felt was that detective mode is awesome, and needed to play the game right, but it kind of takes away from the great look of the game.
Obviously you have the option, but it's tempting for the player to not stay in detective mode virtually all the time since there is so much you need it for.
Maybe they can find a way to limit that.

I have been a ridiculously big Star Wars fan my entire life, but I have never gotten into the comics. I don't really get down with much of the non-movie stuff at all actually.

I liked Dark Empire, Tales of the Jedi and some other stuff. That's from way back in the early 90s though. I actually used to get 'Droids' comic when I was younger. I just remember it being pretty badass even though it doesn't sound like it would be.

Shadows of the Empire was also great, in all mediums including the comics. Does Boba Fett have his own title?
I'd be shocked if he doesn't.

Actually growing up in the 90's, I loved all the Dark Horse books (not just the Star Wars ones..AVP, Terminator, etc come to mind.) I have a bunch of the 90's DH comics. They were all A+ from what I remember. Specially their adaptations of the Thrawn trilogy.
As far as the Fett man goes..I can't remember him ever having a series. I remember little mini-series here and there and one shots. I had this awesome hand shot of some imperial officer who hires Fett to put down a rebel group he can't deal with. Bad ass all over. I also remember a mini-series about the origins of Fett. However, there was some controversy behind that one since Episode II pretty much made it obsolete.

Novels are a much better reading experience than the comics. Thrawne trilogy, tales of the bounty hunters, and boba fett's trilogy are all pretty good. I liked New Jedi Order, but some people don't like it. Havn't read the legacy of the jedi series yet.

Oh damn almost forgot about the Darth Bane books. Only read the first one, but it was easily the best star wars book I've ever read.

Jeritron

I used to read some back in the day. The "Tales of" books were cool, because they existed on the side of the original movies. The Thrawn Trilogy and Shadows of the Empire were great too, but aside from that I really just dislike the EU. It feels so forced and different. Like it doesn't have that distinct Lucas feel. I can't really put my finger on it but you may know what I mean

Fignuts
08-28-2010, 05:39 AM
Yeah, New Jedi Order definitely strays from it. I don't try to look at them as "star wars" books, but as sci-fi books in general. I don't go in reading them with the Lucas mentality. I try to just appreciate them for what they are.

Legacy of the Jedi might be more to your liking, from what I hear, but it might be a bit confusing if you don't know EU chronology. Wikipedia can help with that though.

Darth Bane doesn't have the Lucas feel tbh, but you should check it out anyways, as it is just a flat out, great book in general.

Also, Rise of Vader (I think thats the title) is something you might like. It came out shortly after episode III, and it deals with Vader hunting some of the remaining jedi, as well as coping with his new suit, and decrease in power.

Honestly don't know if it's even EU. Might be canon, tbh.

Just bought all 19 trades of JLA vol.2, as well as Earth-2, all 4 trades of 52, The Tornado's Path, and the Identity Crisis Hardcover. All for just a little over 100 dollars.

Allow me to just reiterate that I fucking LOVE half.com.

Gonna get the Infinite Crisis Hardcover, and it's accompaning miniseries trades, and all the Justice League volume 3 trades released so far. Then it's on to catching up with JSA and Green Lantern trades.

Might skip Final Crisis because I absolutely hated it, but I dunno. It IS one of the biggest stories in dc history. Don't think the collection is complete without it.

Fignuts

Yeah, first book of NJO.

I mean, if they are going to kill off one of the main characters, I think chewbacca makes the most sense.

Jeritron
08-28-2010, 04:45 PM
I suppose. Although Chewy's age makes him a candiate to just never die at all in the continuity.
I would imagine Han is boring and useless as hell in all of those books. Han's happy ending of falling in love with Leia and being married is all well and good, but I don't think anyone actually wants to see Han as a married man in stories.

Harrison Ford and Lawrence Kasdan actually tried to convince Lucas to kill him off early in Return of the Jedi

Before the prequels, the EU only dealt with the time after Jedi, and it was just an endless string of random and meaningless adventures with the main characters on different planets against new villains that seemed more science fiction and less like Star Wars stuff.
That's really when I formed my opinion on it, and for the most part I haven't looked back.
Now I assume they're doing all kinds of filling in the gaps.

For years they lolligagged on the status of Beyond's place in the DCU, usually resting on it's place in the DCAU (which is an alternate Earth of the DCU). The famous panel in that Batman/Superman arc, along with a shot in 52, made people ask if it was some other alternate future now (DCAU was otherwise never visited by Earth-1).

With this book I hope it gets cleared up, I'd settle for an alternate future.

Fignuts

I hope so. Wouldn't want it to be the main earth's future, as that would set history on a set path, so to speak.

I have done the online comic deal before.
To be honest, it does not work for me. I already spend plenty of time on the computer doing work, typing papers for school, etc. It's a cool deal for someone starting out or someone who prefers a cheaper alternative.
To me, there is something glorious about having the comic book in hand. That smell, turning the papers, looking at it up close, etc.

Oh I agree about physical books but that can be very space consuming. This is a great suppliment to a physical collection, allows you to read everything else you don't have room for.

Actually, continuing to look through them, some of them aren't completely horrendous. Some are "medium" at best.

Lol this cover. Superman throwing a city block into space. People: "Superman! Why are you doing this to us?" Superman: "FOR YOUR OWN GOOD!"

EDIT- I figure I should edit this post rather that continue to post.

Into some Superman comics now that would be $125 if they weren't destroyed.

- Superman #200: $140. Not wholly destroyed, but still in rough shape.

- Crisis on Infinite Earths #1: $16, and this one is actually in good shape.

- Teen Titans v1 #5: $180. This one would be "medium" if not for the fact that someone seems to have drawn a red diagonal line across the cover in crayon or something.

- Bunch of World's Finest Comics: $10-$12

- Bunch of Superman Family: $8-$12 (#200 = $14)

As much as I like physical books after almost 3 years of buying every Wednesday they are very space consuming. The Marvel sub is alright but I HATE reading it using their format. Downloading them as cbr files is MUCH better.

Eventually if they start doing better formats, I could see myself buying no more than 10 physical books a month and getting the rest digitally.

I want to buy more comics because there's some good stuff coming out but me living in an apartment with my folks and having just one room to store them... I'm going to unboard about 75% of them because honestly most comics get reprinted these days so I don't care about keeping every single one in great shape, just the special ones.

I'm over whelmed by all the stuff I bought in 3 years. I enjoy comics like "drugs". I get them, read them, enjoy them and put them away. A quick thrill but it gives me something to do and look forward to and enjoy and only certain shit is worth having in trades to reread or to catch up to what you missed or cool stories you can wait for and read at once.

I fear for the future. I feel like giving some of them away just to make space, I don't know I still have space but I spent like 45 minutes unboarding and putting together certain books (my collection is like a hurricane, I stack them in the order I get them in 3 different drawers and a few plastic bins from Ikea.

Long boxes are no good they'll look ugly in my room and cardboard attracts bugs and I have no room to put them anyway, same for the drawer boxes.

Damnit. Damnit.

I think I want to switch to half monthlies and half trades eventually.

Fignuts

Lock Jaw
09-01-2010, 04:51 PM
I switched to trades two years ago, because I have six full long-boxes and was like "ok, I literally can't stack 'em any higher".

I miss my monthly comic books.

But I figured I would save space and money. I AM saving space. Money though... I think my mind was like "Alright, so I'm not buying monthly comics... so I'll just buy a monthly trade!"

So I get a lot of things I otherwise would not have bought in monthly form.

dronepool
09-01-2010, 05:24 PM
See, money isn't really the issue here- I mean sure if I was broke and living on Kool-Aid and popcorn, sure it is. But obviously I'd have more important things to worry about if that was the case.

I said that because I get 15% off, meaning I get to pay $3.39 for 3.99 books and and around $2.54 for 2.99 books, which is the main reason I have a list with that store. Now if I buy a trade that costs say- 19.99, I'll pay around 16.99- which is a few bucks here and there, which is good.

But the thing is, if I didn't go get weekly/monthly books I'd be so bored of waiting for shit to come out and be annoyed that I can't talk about it on comic sites without being spoiled....

But how does this sound- eventually I'll just leave around 8-10 books or less- depending on story lines at that time and just trade wait the rest?

Just gotta decide on what to wait for and what to read singles... mini's, ongoings, events... favorite books.. ect

Oh, I could get deals on trades and there's a store near the comic store that sells trades for cheap, I got 3 soft cover Blue Beetle trades for 7.50 each. Same goes for most soft covers usually in the 6.50 to 10 dollar range- I bought like 30 trades from there because the prices rock.

It's just they don't always have new stuff (they stock some popular new stuff and buy used and resell)

Just when the time comes, I dunno how to split my trades with monthlys cause I'd want to leave a few on the list to keep my discount in the store (15% anything there) and go trade for other books... just need to make a plan on what I could wait for and what I'd get on the fly mothly as long as I don't accumulate over 30-50 books a year, that's just like an 8 inch stack which aint much compared to accumulation of like 150-200 books a year.

It's actually not much compared to others, I spend around 60-70 a month, sometimes less. Some people spend like 60 a week

What is the most you've ever paid for a comic or paperback?

I ask because I'm toying with the idea of buying a volume of the first year of TMNT comics, but even the most recent printing is over 100 bucks.

I just really want it and have for a while, and my major rationalization besides treating myself is that if I regret it for any reason I can just turn around and sell it and probably get the same $ back.
The other side of me is saying, that's a lot of money for a comic book.

Jeritron
09-08-2010, 01:29 AM
I'm not worried about the perception or what anyone thinks. I'm just legitimately on the fence about the price. I really want it, but I also don't want to buy it and then see a new print of it come out in like a year for 20 bucks.
I don't think that will happen though. It seems they just don't print them often.

It's not like I'm gonna go hungry for a week if I buy it or anything.
It's just that I'm torn on whether I want to buy this or spend the money on other non-essential items or means of entertainment.

Probably just going to shut up and buy it because I have blown the same amount of money in like 10 minutes playing blackjack

I seem to be in the minority here, but anything Grant Morrison has written with Batman in the past few years has been pretty bad. Well, not terrible terrible. Just not very good. Highly overrated.

His status quo that he created (Dick and Damien) has allowed other writers to run with it though and turn out some of the most interesting Bat-Stuff in years.

I just read Batman Inc, Red Robin and Batman & Robin. And I checked out the Dark Knight by David Finch and enjoyed it.

I got a bunch of rare limited variants such as the Iron Man #1 with the actors, An Astonishing X-Men annual and some Secret Invasion and Dark Reign stuff for normal price. I haven't sold any of it yet and probably won't.
I have this thing that sometimes I see something awesome to buy and I go "beh..ill just sell it if I feel bad about it." I never end up feeling bad about anything.

I purchased a Masterpiece line Star Wars Anakin Lightsaber replica (with the motion effects and all) for 75$. I would have snatched it for 100$. Had buyer's remorse for 2mins before I turned it on and swung it around like a drunk Jedi.

Spawn #200 was very sub-par and I bought 4 different covers (one of them being a 1:10 cover) to maybe sell 3 of them.

So after 40 issues, Buffy Season Eight is officially over with. Pretty crappy throughout.

There will be a brief hiatus, and then there will apparently be a Season Nine, which is promised to be "more down to Earth".

All caught up with my Bat-related stuff now.

I gotta say, two issues in, Batman Inc is the only Grant Morrison-Batman stuff that I have loved.

The actual Return of Bruce Wayne was pretty meh.

So, DC just announced 14 tie-in miniseries (three issues each) to their upcoming "Flashpoint" event. That is pretty ridiculous.

The Destroyer
01-28-2011, 04:06 PM
That strikes me as pretty extreme.

They seem to be pretty vague about what Flashpoint is about - all I can gather from the teasers is that it sounds like some sort of alternate timeline type deal.

Fignuts
01-28-2011, 04:50 PM
If they are as good as the infinite crisis tie in mini series, I would not care.

But they won't be.

Also, wtf is going on with Fantastic Four? The latest issue is the last one?

I hate how the companies whoreout the tie-ins. Every now and then there is a couple of good ones that are worth it and add to the story. At times, you have to read the tie-ins to understand the full story. I read the whole Final Crisis and I thought it was horrible. A friend let me borrow a bunch of tie-ins and the story became more tolerable. Just ridiculous with all the tie-ins tho.

Here's what's up with FF:
There will be one more issue of Fantastic Four. They killed Johnny Storm in the issue that came out this week. The following month, there's a new title coming out currently advertised as "FF". I fully expect that to end up meaning "Fantastic Family", "Fantastic Friends", or possibly they bring in Franklin and Valeria Richards, and they make it "Fantastic Five".

Final Crisis tie-ins were tolerable because for the most part they either had nothing really to do with the Final Crisis event, or did not even fit into Grant Morrison's story at all.

Batman Inc. rocks my socks off.

Flashpoint should be interesting.

Also looking forward to the War of the Green Lanterns.

Sometime in June there is a Red Lantern ongoing starting too. That should be cool.

not surprised about wizard. I mean, with the internet, the magazine became kinda worthless. Sure, it had cool content but when it came to rumors, reviews, etc it faced the problem all other publications face, the internet. Will be missed. sort of. Had not bought an issue in like 4 years.

Read through the entire New X-men series, finally. Fucking phenomenal book. Pretty depressing though. Gets pretty fucking dark around the time X-23 joins up.

X-23 is an excellent character btw. Also read her mini series stuff, and they are all great reads. Much more complex and interesting character than she seems on the surface. Goes to show that good writing can make a blatant wolverine cash-in a very enjoyable character. I actually like her a lot more than wolverine, tbh.

Also, as far as Flashpoint, I believe it's about the Reverse Flash time traveling with his reverse Speed Force and screwing up the timeline. All the tie-ins won't be necessary, but I'll probably pick up the ones that look interesting, like Deadman and The Flying Graysons, and theirs one about Abin Sur.

Which X-Men characters are Omega level, or "class 5" mutants?

Curious

Oh... those guys...

There's an official list, but off the top of my head:

Iceman
Jean Grey/Phoenix
Xavier
Magneto (I think)

Sixx
03-04-2011, 02:19 AM
Magneto is class 4.

From Wiki:

Mutants that have been confirmed as Omega-level include Jean Grey,[6] Vulcan,[7] Rachel Summers,[8] Iceman,[9] Legion,[10] Elixir,[11] and Franklin Richards.[12] Sentinels identify Storm as a possible Omega-level mutant.[13]

Kalyx triaD

It has more to do with psychology and stamina than simply having the power. Erik can shift the planet on it's axis, but that would tax him. Iceman can fuck us all over and initiate a permanent ice age, but he hasn't mental compacity.

Was just thinking about the differences between certain superheroes, and even though I absolutely love X-Men and The Avengers (and the members solo), I way prefer street level heroes.
What I mean by that is X-Men, Avengers, FF, JLA and a lot of other heroes deal with such huge global issues, and even stuff from space.

Then you have Batman, Spidey, Daredevil, Punisher and Moon Knight (and now TMNT, my new comic addiction) who stick to their cities and fight the mob and moderate threats. Not like Doc Ock and Venom are really "normal", but in the world of comics they're actually reasonable and local.

I like the ones who usually work on that bigger scope, but I think I only really "love" X-Men and Avengers, and The Thing, from that pool.

It's late and I'm quite bored.

Also, I too have been reading the mirage TMNT comics. I had no idea that the first movie was based almost entirely on the comic. The only thing they had from the cartoon was a touch more humor in the turtles' personalities.

Jeritron

Yea, and April as a reporter. But the way she factors into the story is pretty much exactly the same.
They just obviously couldn't have her as Baxter's assistant without Baxter.
Having her as a reporter helps the story be told too.

And the Turtles having different colored bandanas, but honestly that should have always been the case anyways. Unless their weapon is visible, I sometimes have trouble telling them apart. That can get distracting.

How far along are you in the mirage comics, Figgy?

The first volume or all volumes? The first volume is basically from like 85-93, and then after that they did more but I don't think they're as good.

I'm in the middle of the first volume. Impressed by how badass Casey Jones is, and the accuracy of his relationship with the Turtles in the first film. Right down to him rescuing them in the antique shop and hiding out with them on the farm. Especially Raph.
Those two are great.
I can't wait to get to City At War and stuff. I'm getting through it pretty slow because I'm actually tracking down the printed books.

Fignuts

Jeritron
03-04-2011, 08:17 PM
I have no interest in that either. All in all I feel that the mirage comic is a severely underrated property.
Probably because of how huge the phenomenon got in the early 90s, and people were overexposed, and when they think of Turtles they probably think children's fad, or nostalgic cartoon, and not dark and engaging comic series for mature readers.

But the integrity of that comic seems to have always been upheld, no matter how popular the franchise was getting around it.
I wish it got a little bit more cred. It's hard to find comic stores that even have the books, and there aren't any trade paperbacks on shelves at the moment.

So, I'm going to start reading some comics again (marvel). What is currently going on in some of the main books that's actually worth reading. X-Men, Steve Rogers, Iron Man, Deadpool fan.
