I just finished reading the first half of The Widening Gyre. Pretty good, though I saw the twist coming a mile away. But I dunno, not sure if I feel him as a writer. Seems to inject to much of sense of humour and talkiness into a character not known for that. Did the same thing in Cacophony. Both series aren't near bad, it's just kind of odd.

Your thoughts?

I read Cacophony when it came out and it was pretty good, not too bad but other writers write him better.

His run on Daredevil was pretty great, but other than that, I've never really cared for him.

he was stoned out of his brain when he wrote the widening gyre so i'm sure that didn't help.

Smith has described how he creates the scripts. Following Zack and Miri Make a Porno (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zack_and_Miri_Make_a_Porno), he had "a sort of nervous breakdown (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nervous_breakdown), or as close to a mid-life crisis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mid-life_crisis)" and started heavily smoking cannabis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannabis), which, he claims, has contributed to his writing of the series[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman:_The_Widening_Gyre#cite_note-1):
<table style="margin: auto; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: none; background-color: transparent; width: auto;" class="cquote"><tbody><tr><td style="color: rgb(178, 183, 242); font-size: 35px; font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif; font-weight: bold; text-align: left; padding: 10px;" valign="top" width="20">“</td> <td style="padding: 4px 10px;" valign="top">I’m not telling you anything new…I’m far more creative now, you know. I’ve been writing this Batman: The Widening Gyre miniseries, and I’m stoned all the time when I’m writing it. And, I swear, I’ll write it, and then, it’s not so much blackout, but forget, so much so that the next morning, I go to read what I wrote, and it’s, like, I’m that fuckin’ little cobbler and elves (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elf) came and fuckin' wrote it in the night, because I’m, like, "This is better than anything I’ve ever written before." I mean, like, I’ve done comics, but this is way better.

kevin smith undergoing "THIS IS THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE" complex and doing wonders for the pro-drug movement, ladies and gentlemen.
