Kevin Smith as a Batman writer
I just finished reading the first half of The Widening Gyre. Pretty good, though I saw the twist coming a mile away. But I dunno, not sure if I feel him as a writer. Seems to inject to much of sense of humour and talkiness into a character not known for that. Did the same thing in Cacophony. Both series aren't near bad, it's just kind of odd.

I read Cacophony when it came out and it was pretty good, not too bad but other writers write him better.

His run on Daredevil was pretty great, but other than that, I've never really cared for him.

he was stoned out of his brain when he wrote the widening gyre so i'm sure that didn't help.

Smith has described how he creates the scripts. Following Zack and Miri Make a Porno, he had "a sort of nervous breakdown, or as close to a mid-life crisis" and started heavily smoking cannabis, which, he claims, has contributed to his writing of the series[2]:
