Why is it that artists now get shit for not writing their own music, but artists from the 50's and 60's don't? Some of the most prolific acts of the past like Buddy Holly and Elvis worked with a team of writers and some never wrote a song at all.

...Errr...Because times change? Four people could have a number one hit with the same song in the same year in the 50s and 60s. Singles were popular.

We will never really know what everyone thought back in the day due to the only line of communication was a phone. Now a days you'll have millions of people discussing one topic so you get to hear everyone's opinion weather you like it or not because of the power of the internet. Back then, your opinion would not really travel further than your circle of friends.

yeah plus the fact that a lot of people who were alive in the 50s are still alive today so it's real easy to just ask them. "never know what people thought", come on. not talking about pre-history here.
