The only attack from the ground is Lexia's 'cry baby' thing. It being shockingly useful probably says a lot about your idea.
But pressing the attack on a downed opponent is a tenet of most 3D fighter wake-up games which makes knockdowns that much more important. Momentum after knockdowns can change a match, but you can regain control.
The next time we lobby up I want to pay special attention to knockdowns between me and Khuntry. I'll try to be more clear about what's actually going on over the mic.

I'll try it out. I think my idea is a good one and not exactly too out there. I'd want a fighting game where the fighting goes on from the second the match begins until someone in K.O'd. Regardless of the position you're in.
I guess it's because I prefer an aggressive approach to a defensive approach. Mostly it's because it would just feel fairer if there was no "Oh no, I'm completely vulnarable" situations.

I watched Kalyxs replay vs the gold Astaroth player. I can't imagine the guy was happy with how the last round ended.
I've unlocked a ton of new armour peices and I'm currently into making various knights. I'm enjoying giving the knights character based on armour shape and colour, along with fighting style. For example I've made a cocky knight called Monroe. He has the Scoundral voice, Maxi's moves and wears a green armour with orange trim.
I was trying to go for a "think's he's better than he actually is" vibe and I think I pulled it off. I gave him Maxi's moves and the scoundral voice which combines to give a cocky attitude, and the really ugly combo of colours gives off a vibe that he's un-coordinated and a bit lame. The weird helmet I gave him helps as well. I forget it's name but it looks vaguely like an eyeless anime octopus with a red/blue default colour.
What's with the weapon trails? I'll pick a colour and get a brighter version. Black trails come out white, dark purple comes out pink etc.

Being that they're 'lit' effects you'll never get anything terribly dark. Black is grey and so on. A small price to pay for the option.
That Asty player was a flowchart dick and I was more than happy to dispatch him the way I did.

They should probably have just had preset colours then, rather than letting is use the RGB slider. It seems a bit weird when I want my big bad guy character to have a dark purple streak which comes out pink. It's like he's evil but in touch with his female side.

I'm seeing some improvement in myself. I played through arcade as Algol and playing arcade/quick battle with a character using Patroklos style, I was able to pull of small combos. Just 4 or so hit's but it's an improvement, along with being more "in tune" with how the game works.
I think I'm starting to learn to "walk" where as before I was definitely at the "crawling" stage of my SCV development.

Why does the game only allow the green repel moves to work at very specific times?
I'll do a move and my sheild will have that green glow for 2 seconds but it'll only repel in a very narrow half second of those 2 seconds. The glow should either be shorter or the move should repel anytime I'm attacked in that 2 seconds.
The game seems to change the rules on blocking CE moves. Sometimes I'll do Patroklos style CE and the AI cannot block it, even if it is actively and clearly trying to. Then, other times, the AI can block it. The AI is doing nothing differently. On both occasions it is blocking while standing upright.
I'm also not a fan of my CE meter being drained when I input the CE command yet it doesn't actually activate. I think I'd prefer it if the meter only drained when the move activated the camera zooming in.

I think you're talking about exclusive parries and not the one that cost meter, right? Here's the thing:
Some parry-moves only parry horizontal attacks, and some vertical attacks, and others both. Some parry low attacks (though no current character comes to mind, I'm just thinking of the series as a whole). Just like normal moves, parries vary in actual parry window. They can be hard to land but fairly useful and stylish. It's absolutely fine that the window is strict, trust me. Meter cost parries have larger windows and parry anything, take that as you will.
Don't take what happens with AI as gospel for anything. Namco does strange things with AI that I won't get into here, but just don't worry about events in a match against the AI.
You input CE and you get that effect at your feet, you activated it. The game doesn't concern itself with whether you did it safely or not, that's on you. The meter's for the opportunity, not landing it. All meter moves work the same way - whether you land it or not you spent the meter.

Yeah, AI in fighting ames in general tends to not be the way to guage a character. They will always be able to do shit you cant. Think of Guile's endless sonic booms in a few editions of SF2. I was all "am I really being fireball spammed by Guile right now?"

How do I use the meter for anything but CE? I've not figured it out yet. I'm aware I sound like I've never touched a fighting game in my life at this point.
That's another thing I'd do if I had a fighting game. If you can't do something. The AI can't do it either. I always hated the way charge characters in SF could do moves instantly.
It's just that the AI in SCV seems to change the rules all the time. Either a standing block stops my Patroklos CE or it doesn't. All I want is for the game to make up its mind one way or another.
I'm trying to make a Harley Quinn costume for Tira. I might abandon it because I don't think you can do the colouring of the shoes sperately to make one red and one black. Same for gloves.
It also ruins it that I have to settle for a purpley red for her body because firey red seems unavailable for stickers. The RGB starts at yellow for stickers for some reason. Probably some ridiculous attempt to stop people making "LOL n00d" characters.

All characters have certain moves that have 'EX' versions, by pressing ABK right after the attack (R Trigger if you didn't change your buttons). These pumped up moves can really help you lay down damage. Back+ABK is a universal parry that works like oldschool SC parrying. I don't recommend it, though - plenty of ways to parry or dodge that doesn't cost meter.
Fighting game AI, to me, is besides the point.
Drakul
05-07-2012, 04:21 AM
I was just getting used to the "oldschool" parrying for SC1 on XBLA when I bought SCV so I could probably make use of it.
Fighting game AI should only be able to pull of actions a human can pull off and rules of the game shouldn't be changing.
Imagin playing chess with an AI and the AI suddenly decides you can't move a certain peice a certain way even though you could move the exact same peice the last time. Or if the AI decided one of it's peices could move illegally and it be ok just because it was an AI. I'm sure we wouldn't be as accepting of it as we are of this kind of thing in fighting games.
The same thing happened with Mario Kart on the SNES. Loved it as a kid but, when I played it last year, I saw the AI racers drove through obstacles and it completely ruined the fun. I felt it took away the "game" element.
I've reached level 53 so no more creation parts to unlock :(. New DLC tomorrow though :y:.

AI is my only option a lot of the time. Very few of my friends are into games and the ones that are are still pretty "lightweight" and would prefer either to just watch or play something more laid back like The Sims or Saints Row 3 or whatever.
I don't think I'm asking too much of the developers, though.

Fighting game AI just doesn't "feel right". Dunno how to put it right now. The only fighter I can think of that had excellent AI (in terms of mimicking real people) was Tekken 5: DR. The dojo mode had various dojos with different members. Each member is based on real players from the Japanese arcades and it shows. Sometimes dojos will have 2 guys who use the same character but the play style and skill level are different. And I say skill level because it's not just a difference in how hard your opposition is, but in the moves that get used as well. Higher ranked members of the dojo tend to also use moves that have difficult inputs, while lower ranked guys stick to the basics.

Viola has two main modes: With Ball, and Without Ball. Her normals change between these modes (without the ball she's short range with trap options, with ball she has more range but longer recovery between attacks).
There's a specific command that always returns her ball after certain moves. I don't know it, but she has a system to it. Check out her move list and find the pattern of commands.

Takes a while to understand the meta-game, especially if you're coming off 2D fighters. This has a lot more freedom than 2D games, and more decision making per turn.

That was a good session I had with Kalyx. I thought I'd have done better as Astaroth but I sucked for some reason. I thought I did quiet well using Devil Jins style, surpringly. I'm assuming I was playing against someone else when I won as Toad, given they skipped the match opening and everything when you usually let it play out.
So, how about that Voldo outfit?:naughty:

That was me against your Toad, but I was slightly occupied with conversation during the match. My roommate found your Toad very amusing.
The Voldo alt was... disturbing.
I think you seen all of my characters. Many of them Maxi clones, with Kiana being my favorite. Her Power Ranger suit is my fave. Oriah (bad) is my surrogate daughter for Nightmare, I suck with Oriah (good). Ericho is my go-to Nightmare clone, and also one of my first characters. He actually has a brother, Orin, who uses Seigfried's style. Not to good with it, yet, as you can see with Oriah (good). MC.1182 is one of my robots. I made 1183 and 1184 models. The Natsu clone Evil Jazz and the Nightmare clone Kalyx are based on likenesses of me and her.
There will be more Power Rangers, and Khuntry has a few with design changes I may add to mine.

That reminds me of the time I finally beat Khuntry and felt pretty pleased with myself, only to hear someone say "Lol, the lag is ridiculous!" like that was why I won :(. I saw no sign of lag during that session, back then, btw.
I'm glad someone likes my Toad character, I was just screwing around with the turtle shell and realised it would make a good Toad head. If only they had polka dot patterns rather than the strawberry pattern.
The Voldo alt was... disturbing.
That's what I was going for. I noticed you couldn't use female clothing on male characters except for that one barmaid boob tube thing.
It gets even more disturbing when he goes upside down and you see he's wearing a "hot pink" thong under the skirt. Or when he does that "crab stance" when he bends backwards, you flip him over onto his stomach and he starts slowly gyrating towards or away from his opponent, growling, with his butt in the air.
"Deliciously Bizzare" isn't just a user title. If a silly alt costume in a game was disturbing, you really don't want to get into my brain.
I've made other alts for other characters which are a bit more "normal". You saw my 1970's Astaroth, which works twice as well when he keeps talking about "Soul".
I made an alt for Ivy which is an "Otaku girl" look. Braided ponytail, cat ears, thick rim glasses, pink anime shirt etc.
Akuma for Algol, Santa for Edge Master and a cute "babysitter" look for Leixia.
The Natsu clone Evil Jazz and the Nightmare clone Kalyx are based on likenesses of me and her.
I only have 3 slots left for characters so I might have to delete some of the lesser ones. 4 slots are taken up by my nephews fully green, squeeky characters.
I can't really think of anyone that isn't orginial, like Power Rangers. Whenever I try to make someone there is always a big peice of an outfit missing. Like I tried to make Link and I couldn't give him sleeves and his little skirt/shirt thing. When I gave him his tunic, I couldn't give him a belt because the lower half would vanish etc.
The Mario Bros hats aren't in the game and we have so little customisation over faces that I couldn't have given them a passable face anyway, especially as we can't customise facial hair.
I have 11 non-original characters, one being me, one being my brother and one being my cat (just to give someone the fish sword Patroklos has).
Everyone else is an original. Mostly based on a world I built around the Drakul characters in the past. Morfran being a sort of nemesis to him and another Voldo character called Ghalar (Gaelic for "Disease") being a sort of right hand man to Morfran. I always envisioned him in a black cloak and a plague doctor mask (http://www.google.co.uk/search?tbm=isch&hl=en&source=hp&biw=1024&bih=625&q=plague+doctor+mask&gbv=2&oq=plaugue&aq=2s&aqi=g-s10&aql=&gs_l=img.1.2.0i10l10.1531.2796.0.4265.7.7.0.0.0.0.94.594.7.7.0...0.0.rgfX0YwKUbY#hl=en&gbv=2&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=plague+doctor&oq=plague+doctor&aq=f&aqi=g10&aql=&gs_l=img.3..0l10.22859.23031.0.23219.2.2.0.0.0.0.125.219.1j1.2.0...0.0.SEVo7ENt5U4&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=43242177009e97fb&biw=1024&bih=625). Hence the name meaning "disease". So I was surprised to see SCV had the mask available.
Other characters are knights and such. I was pleased when I first got the game and saw a couple of the stages fit the little story I had thought up when I was in my mid to late teens. Burning battlefeild, night battlefield, forest and castle under attack from monsters.
Besides Drakul characters, I usually just made light hearted characters like that Valentino character, a chef or the little girl with the floral club.
I did make a non-original character only a Scottish person would recognise.
Oor Wullie (translated to "Our William"). If you grew up in Scotland in the last 100 years, you grew up with Oor Wullie and The Broons, another comic strip by the same guy.
Cue music video no one will watch more than a second of, max:

I gave him Pyrrhas style to give him her rolling pin and basket weapons. I tried to make the basket look like his trademark bucket as best as I could. The only down side being he does girly win poses, which I guess is ok because he's only supposed to be something like 8 years old. So it could look just more childish than girly.

It was actually what made me want to buy the game in the first place. If I wanted just to fight, I'd have stuck with XBLA SoulCalibur, I downloaded years ago.
According to stats, you've spent 27 hours in creation and I'm only 23. Yet, I have 54 creations and you have 31. So you spend longer on each character?
The game needs knee/arm pads. I made a WWE wrestler and it doesn't look right without pads.
I thought I could use the turtle shell but moving it around is weird. "Back" makes it go left etc.

I do spend more time on a character then make a bunch of separate ones. I also like to erase old designs or update them, without simply copying or making a new character. Bear in mind my friends also have characters so my own number of characters/alts is a bit smaller than that.

I'm not one for updating. Once I finish a character, that's usually it unless I notice a mistake or something that really doesn't work.
All but 4 of my characters are mine and I helped out with those other 4.
I really like seeing other peoples characters. I'd have liked a gallery mode to check out the creations of people on your friend list.
I just finished another videogame character and he doesn't feel finished. I think it's because we can't edit the face and that's a pretty big part of anyones appearance, real or fictional.
It's even worse when the character is supposed to have a really unique face and you have to settle for a premade one.
DLC fighting styles and weapons would be cool.

I also have a new Seigfried-clone named Alaster who's stylishly par for the course for me (black coated swordsman) but I'm still fond of him. Made a younger version of him before his sword 'awakened'. I have two Mitsu-clones; Ian my Blue Ranger (I think you seen him) who now has a civilian alt, and Kara my female samurai who's back from SC4.

If they make SC VI, I hope character creator is back and better than SCV, even though SCV had a great one. I'm still making new characters, though that means deleting others.
If they have character creation in the next one, I think creating an Arcade route with your characters would be cool. Plus, I know it's pointless, but I'd like to assign themes and stages to my creations.
