View Full Version : What do you think of Jack Swagger?

Last year, he won the annual Money-in-the-Bank ladder match at WM XXVI
and cashed it in on Chris Jericho less than a week later to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.

He would eventually hold on to the title for almost three months before losing it to Rey Mysterio.

But a couple of months before all this, he was practically a jobber, losing to a comedy act, Santino Marella, which made it hard for me to take Swagger seriously as the WHC.

I'm not knocking his skills. I think he's incredibly talented when it comes to performing in the ring. But IMHO, he's been the victim of bad booking.

What do you think of Jack Swagger?

I agree with you. His title win was booked well. His title reign was miserable for me to watch. Since then he has been out in left field. He has a long career so I'm not worried I just feel bad for him. Watching him go from jobber to champ back to jobber so quickly...it's hard to catch my breath.

I concur, Jack Swagger's descent down the card has been sad. His title reign was entertaining, he had some great matches with Orton. Virtually beat him clean in one of them as well.

He did kick the fuck out of Rey Mysterio a bunch..which I enjoyed tremendously.

Jack Swagger has everything he needs to be great, except a decent spot on the card. He's great in the ring, easy to hate, and can work with anyone from The Big Show to Rey. He's not bad, he's just booked that way.

I agree with everything you said. Personally, I wish they would invest more time with guys like him, Kofi and Ziggler instead of Miz and A-Ri. I saw them wrestle each other at a house show in Bethlehem, PA this weekend and it was terrible, actually the only bad match on the card. Kofi vs. Ziggler and a triple threat with Cena, Punk and Truth and Bourne vs. Swagger were great. That was such a dud and the arena was silent for that match (Miz and Riley).

I think they should write him off tv for a while, then re-introduce him as a hybrid Benoit/Angle/Lesnar wrestling machine who doesn't speak much and give him a good manager as a mouthpiece. I can't take him seriously when he talks, not too mention the shitty booking they've done to him.

I like Swagger a lot. Not a big fan of him using the Ankle Lock though. Being compared to Kurt Angle is huge honor, but having him also use one of his finishers makes him look more like they're trying too hard to make him Angle II.

Lock Jaw

Yeah, not a fan of him doing the Ankle Lock. I am not opposed to SOMEBODY using it, but I dunno. It just... Swagger seems too awkward and lanky to be using it. Somehow. To me. I dunno.

The Hardy's? What do they have to do with anything?

When trying to explain how Good/Bad something is, sometimes it's useful to compare them to something that is Better/Worse than them. In this case:

Jack Swagger is the topic.
Matt/Jeff Hardy is the comparison.

In the example Matt/Jeff Hardy are terrible/not good/very bad.

So the implication is that

Jack Swagger = X
Matt/Jeff Hardy = Y

X > Y.

Simple enough for you?

He won't get it at all. Way to complicated for El Juan. Next time use tacos and burritos in your example. Neg rep from Juan!

Actually Juan never Neg Reps me, In fact he doesn't rep me at all. I usually positively rep most of his posts. Also, he's far more intelligent than you think. He's probably one of the smartest posters on here, he just hates my style of posting.

Jack Swagger: undefeated at Wrestlemania..

I honestly think that Swagger has been a "victim" of being the World Champion.

Hear me out.

I read (in UK wrestling magazine Power Slam) that the winner of the MitB that year was decided by "drawing names out of a hat" because Vince didn't know/couldn't decide who he wanted to push. Swagger's name came out, he gets a title shot.

Now, in order to keep the gimmick of MitB alive and well, Swagger pretty much HAS to win when he cashes in. So, by that logic they HAVE to put a World Title on him.

Let's not forget that he tried to cash in on Cena on the Raw after Mania and of course failed. This is to remind the audience that, despite having the clear advantage, he (nor anybody else for that matter) is better than Cena. Fast forward "4 days" and he takes the World Heavyweight Championship on SmackDown (perhaps a reminder than either Raw > SD or Cena > Jericho).

Now, to my memory, he was pretty "over" as Champ, in so far as the audience booed the hell out of him. They gave him a 3 months reign, his matches were good, his promos were hilarious. Then...nothing.

Kinda feels like he's being punished for them "having" to put the belt on him.

Dunno. Maybe I'm just filling in the blanks a little too much here.

Never been a fan; his look is too vanilla, his work in and out of the ring bores me, and I can't take him seriously so long as he has that lisp.

He's an awesome wrestler tho, as far as in ring skills go.

I think Jack Swagger has a lot of potential and a lot of time to reach that point.

Ironically I think he'd make a much better face than he does heel, with a little bit of a style change on the mic that would go along with it. People almost wanted to cheer him when he dissed Cole for that short period before WWE reaffirmed his heel status.

Let's not forget that Angle was pushed consistently for pretty much his whole WWE tenure.

I like Swaggar, we just gotta remember he is a part of WWE's new development plan so the World Title run was intended to get his name out there, not to make him a top guy. If they wanted him to be a top guy, he would have actually won some matches.

His promo's as champion were amazing and the heat he would get was on Vicky's level. However now I am starting to think that a babyface turn in in the cards for Jack. And I think it could work quite well, I think they could have ran with that in the Cole/Lawler story but they dropped it so maybe it won't happen so soon.

If managers were still prevalent in WWE, Swagger would be a perfect candidate for one.

true, but the guy delivered day in and day out. he was/is seriously one of the most skilled guys i have seen in the ring ever. dude can work, and he is believable in any role he was asked to be
