4 top 10 teams upset. Arkansas has a chance for the BCS championship now?

still undefeated!

Having three teams from the same conference, let alone the same division, in the probable top 3 of the BCS is crazy no matter how you cut it.

It's almost as if one conference is more dominant than the others. :shifty:

Honestly, for many of the past 5 or 6 years, the SEC Title game has been more competitive than the National Title game. Last year was one of the few exceptions.

That said, I would love to see LSU vs. Houston. It could easily be comparable to the '07 Fiesta Bowl, which was a great game where the small school won with great playing and some trickery. Unfortunately, it could also be like the '08 Sugar Bowl, where the small school was dominated with better talent and better coaching. Either way, I say let it happen.

I can understand how people are talking about Houston v.s. LSU, but even if Houston goes undefeated don't expect this matchup to happen. If you are not favored by the BCS, to be in the top 3, your chances of a BCS title birth is slim to none. And that is why I can't stand this BCS system!

I do have a feeling that the next two weeks we will see a shakeup. LSU v.s. Arkansas will be an important game for both teams. A rival game with Alabama v.s. Auburn. I wouldn't be suprised if LSU and Alabama choke.

SPARTANS ARE GOING TO THE BIG 10 CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!

Yes, but we still really need that win @ N’Western this Saturday so we can get to two straight seasons of 10+ Spartan wins. We do that and take care of whoever wins between PSU and Wisconsin Sat. (as that team will represent the Big 10 Leaders division), and it's 11-2 and headed for the Rose Bowl for the first time in forever. How magnificent that would be.

He clearly can't run a clean program, but his system is a great fit for the PAC 12 especially since its a defense-optional conference. I wonder how much longer Mike Leach will be out of a coaching job.

Without a doubt. And that is what is really the fustrating part about this system. But we all know it's all about the $$$. Which is why BCS is creaming in their pants for this LSU v.s. Alabama rematch. I will bet that if LSU loses to Arkansas and falls to number 3, Les Miles will pull politic shenanigans like he did four years ago when they were number 3 and get in the national title game.

Rofl at Clemson, top 10 teams falling over the place would have put them at like #4 with games against top 10 SC and VA Tech to "prove their worth" and they got beat the fuck up by NC State beforehand. Classic Clemson football move

I think either ESPN hinted or Meyer himself said he wants to wait till the full scope of the punishments by the NCAA are done since the school still has some investigations left.

He won't join if the NCAA has further punishments which could hurt his coaching value if he doesn't win right away (or beat Michigan).

So true about ESPN/ABC saying that recently the SEC Championship has almost been like a National Semifinal game.

Anyways, Sparty wins in a game that you could argue was meaningless but I think they needed it to show that they weren't going to lose focus as they head to Indy to play on FOX in primetime this Saturday vs. Wisc. Also agree with the commentators that this game definitely should be played "in the elements" instead of a domed arena. Hopefully they don't pussy out at the first sign of bad weather and decide to close/leave closed the dome...would really like to see as much of an "outdoors atmosphere" as they can provide.

I hear ya, and believe me, I understand where you're coming from. But you have to understand that the Big Ten is a football conference where none of the teams play in domes, so certainly you could see where some Big Ten fans might be sort of pissed by the choice of venue, right? Or no?

This isn't meant to "stir the pot" or anything, just clarifying to a degree, no matter how small or large, some Big Ten fans, possibly/probably coaches and players and such, feel about the issue.

Arkansas can't be in a BCS bowl game due to the limit being 2 teams from any conference.

So far the US Today and AP polls have it as LSU #1 and Bama #2.

USC currently is in a BCS bowl spot but the bowl ban this year means they can't take the potential PAC-12 2nd team spot.

Kind of amazing how Griffin III won the Heisman considering for most of the season all the hype was towards Luck.

Then the stats got compared and ESPN's hype suddenly shifted away from Luck due to how similar Griffin was in certain stats and how he was better in others (primarily rushing and "Heisman" quality moments).

I'm suprised RG3 got the Southern votes. I thought they'd be all slobbering over SEC players. Hell, that one Alabama radio host didn't even put Griffin on his fucking ballet.

Every argument for Luck could be applied to Griffin and Griffin had better stats:

Academic school with no history of winning --> Check
The team didnt do shit until he showed up --> Check
Managed to be the 2nd/3rd best team in arguably the #2 conference --> Check

Plus, Griffin can run and throw and he came back from a blown out knee. Honestly, all of them could have won it and Id not had an issue except for The Honey Badger and that is just because of the failed drug test/suspension.

Big chance the winner of tonight's BCS title game won't be ranked #1 in the final AP poll due to either voters wanting LSU (resentment for Bama making it) or the game being as bad as the first game. There is also a good chunk of voters that will vote for Bama regardless if LSU wins as well.

BCS also could be changing its format for next year due to a lot of resentment from this season and their yearly changes they do every offseason. A playoff model (Plus 1 model) and removing the auto-bids (drop ACC and Big East bids) are the two biggest things to be discussed.

Supreme Olajuwon

Emperor Smeat
01-09-2012, 04:39 PM
Same ones that managed to get Bama in the title game although this would only be done for the AP Poll and not the BCS poll. Even Oklahoma State has a chance to be #1 although that would be dependent on either a Bama win or the game being just as boring/bad as the first game.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/bowls11/story/_/id/7424042/allstate-bcs-championship-game-some-ap-voters-not-pick-bcs-winner-no-1

Only 11 of the AP voters actually stated they will vote to who ever wins the BCS game today while the rest either already have their minds made up or will make the decision based on how good or bad tonight's game plays out.

Emperor Smeat
01-10-2012, 03:06 PM
Alabama took 55 out of 60 votes in the final AP Poll while 1 voter still gave LSU a 1st place vote and 4 voters gave Oklahoma State their votes.

LSU also got enough of the lower tier votes to stay in as #2 even though they played the worst game in BCS title game history.

Ratings-wise, this year's title game had a 14% drop and based on the preliminary results its also the lowest ever for a title game in the BCS era (Miami vs Nebraska in 2002 was the previous low).
