<font color=goldenrod>Four LA Dodgers players, each of whom is the son of a former major leaguer, combined to hit for the cycle together during the sixth inning of today's game. Tony Gwynn Jr. (son of MLB hall-of-famer Tony Gwynn) singled and stole second, Justin Sellers (son of Jeff Sellers) doubled him in, Ivan DeJesus Jr. (son of Ivan DeJesus) tripled him in, and Scott Van Slyke (son of former all-star Andy Van Slyke) hit a two-run homer to finish off the stat sheet.</font>

So, we all know Braun gets a standing-o at Miller Park on opening day (if Penn State Football fans are totally cool with child rape, PEDs are small potatoes) and that he gets booed on the road for a while.
Two questions:
-How long do you think the fans on the road keep it up? (IE does it go through the season?)
-Does the booing effect him in any way, like it did Rafael Palmiero?

Ill tell you this though. There are stark differences between some of the people who go to Wrigley Field, and actual Cubs fans. If some dumbass in a Sosa or Prior jersey who couldnt tell you who started yesterdays game talked shit to you at some point, it happens everywhere. Sorry you got made fun of.

meh. Cubs fans get crapped on alot, and dont have winning baseball to rest thier laurels on. Some of the doucheness seen at Wrigley comes out of frustration. Now that the team is going to suck balls for at least 2 years, the quality of fans attending games will be better.

Your boys looked like little leaguers out there, Supreme. And then I realized they were for the most part and there were only like 2 starters playing. One guy lost it in the sun (was pretty funny because he yelled at the top of his lungs "I CAN'T SEE IT" and the entire stadium heard him), one guy tripped over himself going for a routine fly ball, the second basemen didn't cover first on a bunt, and then Ichiro was on 1st and someone else was on 2nd and a ball hit to right the coach stopped him at 3rd but Ichiro didn't see it and caused a logjam at 3rd where one of the Reds infielders threw it into the stands. Pretty sloppy play to be honest.
Ichiro was a stud though. Guy next to me was upset that he was leading off for the past 12 years or whatever and that this move couldn't have come soon enough. I mean yeah, he'll flourish in the 3 spot. He'll be good anywhere to be honest. But to say that the guy who has led the league in hits practically every year shouldn't have been leading off this entire time and it was the wrong move? I stopped listening to him after that.
Anyway, it's off to Goodyear Ballpark tomorrow and I've never been but the bar is low because there's nothing out there. I'm hoping it impresses me.

<font color=goldenrod>Definitely wanna get to ST one of these years. Mets have been trying to get another team into the Port St. Lucie complex, much like how the Marlins and Cardinals share a facility in Jupiter and how other teams split complexes in Arizona. Having another team allows for easier game/workout flexibility plus it's cost effective.
As it is, 3 of the 4 closest teams are division rivals. Marlins (and Cardinals) are like 45 minutes away, Nationals and Braves are about 90 minutes away. After that the next closest team is the Astros like 2 hours away. The Dodgers heading to Arizona and the Orioles leaving for the west coast of Florida fucked things up big time. 4 of the 5 NL East teams play each other pretty much all spring. They'll make a few road trips to the west coast for games, but it causes travel issues. Mets drove like 4 hours to play the Twins last year only for the game to get rained out. :o
Mets are contractually obligated to stay in Port St. Lucie through like 2024 or something...but it gets voided if there are 4 or less teams on the east coast of Florida. Can't be too far off from everybody relocating to the west coast.</font>

Goodyear Ballpark is nice. It's hard to describe, it's large but it feels compact at the same time. Like most of the area went to seating which is fine but you think it would make the concourse areas feels small but they don't. The whole place feels smaller than it actually is but not in a bad way. There were a lot of seats in the shade which is nice and some of them were even cushioned too. The crowd was mostly old, retired, senior Ohionians but they were knowledgeable about their team mostly. The rest were probably 20-30 somethings wearing Reds crap and pale skin so it's safe to assume they were from out of town. I was sitting next to these two cute girls who were Reds fans but had no interest in me or my friend. Actually our whole section was pretty empty except for those girls and two girls behind us. Nothing special about the food or the beer selection. And I forgot to go into the team shop. Actually, I don't think I saw it.
But yeah, it's nice. Dunno where I'd rank it but probably top 5. You should come out next year or something, Supreme. Seems like a lot of Ohionians do

People are upset at Papelbon semi-dig against Red Sox fans when he said Philly fans are smarter than Boston fans due to them being in the NL.
It wasn't even a real dig considering he admitted Red Sox fans show a lot of passion towards the team due to it being a "way of life" while he did what every new player does on a team and tries to get the new fanbase to embrace him.
He did make one big mistake in hinting Phillies fans won't trash him if he struggles like he did at times with the Sox.

I had this crazy idea that someone who wanted to pile up steals could steal 2nd and then steal 1st again from 2nd and then steal 2nd again..but apparently there are rules against that, not to mention it being pretty stupid. My thought was that the catcher wouldnt throw back to first if the runner is going back a base.

So I guess we aren't getting expanded replay this year which blows, imo.
On the one hand we have extra wild card/expanded playoffs that really only makes sense logistically when implemented in conjunction with a re-designed regular season schedule to allow for the extra time needed (read: 2013). Instead this new plan gets thrown together in haste with gaping holes of logic everywhere and shoved down the throats of its teams, players, and fans for the simple reason of more money.
And on the other hand, we have expanded replay who’s time has clearly come and when implemented correctly, can only add to the integrity of the game, not to mention that the basic building blocks are already in place with existing replay capabilities. Instead this new plan gets put off for yet another year because the parties involved “…weren’t able to come up with an acceptable set of agreements”.
There you go, folks. This is Bud Selig’s legacy –“Money beats integrity”.

<font color=goldenrod>With Tim "Hulk Hogan" Byrdak to start the season on the DL, the Mets will need a lefty specialist in the pen to start the year. Daniel Herrera is not viewed as a candidate, because the Mets don't think he's good enough to be a lefty specialist and they think his screwball is more effective against righties.

<O:p</O:p
Dont know what you want a right fielder for. You should be worried about winning another championship, not Swisher walking after this year. Nova and Hughes still have options, so they can get sent down if needed so its not like a deal is necessary. If you really wanted to I guess you could, but with Freddy Garcia already hurting and Pineda looking fat with a drop in velocity its probably a bad idea.

I don't think I am going to worry about Pineda dropping Velocity until the actual season. I think I remember an article saying he would work his way up to pitching at his Velocity. Remember, it is still Spring Training, so I am not really willing to put him as a Overweight bust all ready. Now, I realize that this trade is a bad idea right now. I was just talking about maybe at the Trade deadline. By that point, Pettitte will most likely be in our rotation. And by that point we will probably know what Pineda, Kuroda, Nova, and Hughes can offer us.
But, I do agree that Pineda with a drop of Velocity is pretty bad, let's just wait until the season begins and see if that Velocity may have changed.

Mets and their owner required to pay out $162 million as part of the settlement in the Madoff lawsuit case. Wilpon along with the other main co-owner will only pay out $29 million with the team and others covering the rest.
They were able to reduce the original lawsuit by about $200 million from its $386 million estimate.
Mets still waiting for the results of their own lawsuit against Madoff with the goal being $178 million with the majority to be used to pay out the lawsuit that was against them and gain a little extra in cash.

Mark Reynolds with his 1st (well, 2nd if you count the error hes made in ST) E-5 of the Season:
Mark Reynolds may have thought he was in a joking environment during an interview with 105.7 the Fan Tuesday, but things could get pretty serious about the Orioles third baseman.
Hosts Jeremy Conn and Scott Garceau were kidding him about mail from obsessed fans when he responded: "When I first get to spring, there may be 10 or 15 there, but then as it goes on, it really piles up. You've got so much going on during the day, the last thing you want to do is open a bunch of fan mail. I try to get those as much as I can."

:| already another rift between Valentine and the players.
Valentine suggested Daniel Bard needs another pitch to be great with instead of just relying on the fastball while Bard keeps refusing any help from Valentine.
The issue revolves around if Bard is to be a starter, he needs more than just a fastball to be good and having a second quality pitch could help him struggle less if he stays as a reliever. Bard seems to be doing the same Papelbon did and refusing to improve his pitch choices and rely on just the fastball.

Hes just going to have to go on an incentive laden deal for one or two years. Billy Wagner got hurt in 2008 with the Mets, pitched 1/3 of the 2009 season for Boston, and signed with the Braves for closer money in 2010 and was a stud for them. Its a long road, but it can be done much easier since hes a reliever.

49 things to know about Jamie Moyer (http://espn.go.com/mlb/spring2012/story/_/id/7727972/forty-nine-things-know-jamie-moyer)
5 Moyer missed last season while rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, the only summer he hasn't played baseball at some level (including Little League) in 40 years. "The coolest thing was I was able to be at home and cook on the grill and be a part of our family home life a little more,'' he said. "I greatly enjoyed that and at some point I look forward to doing that on a full-time basis. But not now.''
6 Tommy John was still a major league pitcher, and not just a surgical procedure, when Moyer started in the big leagues.
42If pitching doesn't work anymore, perhaps Moyer can come back as a hitter. He has 34 walks in 485 career plate appearances, a better walk rate than Robinson Cano (http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/6204/robinson-cano) or Adrian Beltre (http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/3878/adrian-beltre) had last year.
43 Or maybe not. Moyer has never hit a home run. He has allowed a record 511, however.

<font color=goldenrod>Speaking of old guys making it back to the Major Leagues, 41 year old Miguel Batista was informed that he had made the Mets bullpen. I'm actually okay with that - he was good in his brief stint with the team last year. If he sucks, they'll have Pedro Beato and other guys to turn to.
Mike Baxter won the spot for the lefty outfielder off the bench, beating out Adam Loewen. I definitely saw Loewen getting the spot heading into camp, but Baxter definitely earned it. Plus he's a hometown kid and grew up a Mets fan so I can't help but want to root for him.
Sounds like the Mets roster is just about set. The only guys still fighting for a spot are Vinny Rottino and Daniel Herrera, but their status is entirely dependent on whether or not Andres Torres and Tim Byrdak respectively have to start on the DL.</font>

I don't even think Ibanez is capable of mashing the ball right now, even at his top form. He just doesn't have the bat speed anymore.

Reds, Joey Votto Nearing Extension (http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/04/reds-to-extend-joey-votto.html)
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [April 2, 2012 at 11:40am CST]
Prince Fielder (http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/f/fieldpr01.shtml?utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker&utm_campaign=Linker) and Albert Pujols (http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/pujolal01.shtml?utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker&utm_campaign=Linker) won't be the only first basemen to cash in with historic contracts this offseason. Joey Votto (http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/v/vottojo01.shtml?utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker&utm_campaign=Linker) and the Reds are nearing an extension that will keep the first baseman in Cincinnati for a long time, MLBTR's Tim Dierkes and Ben Nicholson-Smith have learned. Dan Lozano of Icon Sports Group represents Votto.
Terms of the deal are not known, but it wouldn't be surprising if the total contract value surpasses $200MM. Votto will earn a total of $26.5MM through 2013 on the extension he signed last winter. I suggested (http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/01/extension-candidate-joey-votto.html) in January that an additional $161MM could be enough to keep Votto in place long-term. Though not directly related, the Dodgers' sale price of $2.15 billion can't have hurt Votto's leverage.
Votto, the 2010 NL MVP, has evolved into one of the game's elite players since debuting in 2007. He followed up his MVP season with a .309/.416/.531 line, 29 homers and 40 doubles. The 28-year-old has been a seven win player each of the past two seasons, according to FanGraphs' version of wins above replacement.
Just four deals in MLB history have surpassed the $200MM mark. Prince Fielder (http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/f/fieldpr01.shtml?utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker&utm_campaign=Linker), Alex Rodriguez (http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/rodrial01.shtml?utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker&utm_campaign=Linker) (twice) and fellow Lozano client Albert Pujols (http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/pujolal01.shtml?utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker&utm_campaign=Linker) make up the select group (http://transactions.mlbtraderumors.com/widget/transactions-tracker&link=true&widget=true&amount=200&amount_type=4&value_verbiage=1&lang=41).
